Main thing: Red Elm is a much needed informal community meeting space. That they serve very good and inexpensive sandwiches and soups is just a bonus. My favorite is the Chicken & Avocado grilled sandwich - only about $5. It is a testimony to the sisters that opened this place how well they read the need and are serving it. Red Elm is less than a month old and its packed in here with neighborhood people, talking and laughing. I wish them the best and THANK YOU for being here.

The waffles and coffee are great, but the service is non-existent. The payment system defaults to an 18% tip when you slide your card, but each wobbly table has a little sign telling the customer to "bus your own table," so what is the tip for exactly? Ive had better service at McDonalds than here. You have to request butter on the waffles... its not just assumed that the customer would want some. How crazy is that?

Went here for a quick bite to eat and a coffee for the day while traveling. Its a really quaint place to get energized for the day ahead , read a paper, catch up on email, etc. Ordered a coffee and a caramel waffle and the food quality was pretty good. Waffle was nice and soft. The only minor bad note was the service was a little off but nothing major. Id come back if I was around and if convenient.

With natural light pouring through the front windows and high ceilings lending to the spacious interior, the Red Elm Cafe is airy and inviting. The bacon cheddar waffles and the waffle dog were absolutely delicious. The prices are excellent and the staff was incredibly friendly. This brand new Cafe is definitely worth a visit for either breakfast or lunch.

Horrible Mutant
Good coffee! Not the sour light roast stuff all the new roasters are serving, its regular old good coffee. They have a great kid corner and chill not-too-fancy vibe, fits into the neighborhood well rather than feeling like the inevitable wave of gentrification well see sweeping down MLK over the coming years. The food is super inexpensive and totally fine.

Ambiance is awesome. Music is Paula Abdul, Wilson Philips, Michael Jackson, and Taylor Dane. Coffee is good, food leaves a little to be desired. Kinda a la carte fare. Awesome kiddo play area! Plenty of room for them. Awesome big private room with a dozen chairs, huge table, and door you can shut. Perfect for meetings.

Great value on the soup and sandwiches. I had the ham and cheese, and for 3.75, it was great. Vanilla latte was very pleasant and a welcomed change from typical Starbucks coffee. It has an area in the back for kids with toys, a chalkboard, and more. Very friendly to family.

Super comfortable space, consistently friendly service. I really appreciate their small selection of eats and drinks - they chose their menu well and I havent tried anything I didnt like. Looking forward to having this as a new regular neighborhood spot.

The waffle dog is my favorite!! Dip it in syrup for a flavor sensation :) I love this place, the food is so good, the owners are super nice, the prices are amazing (everything under $5), and the atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, and beautiful.

I love this place! Its friendly, peaceful and welcoming atmosphere makes this our go to coffee and breakfast place. They offer everything gluten free which is a huge plus for me. The coffee is amazing. This is the whole package. Just lovely.

We stopped here for lunch, I had the chicken sandwich. It was ok, pressed chicken isnt my thing. I havent tried the coffee. The space however is super for hanging out. It has a spot in back for gathering!!!
