I have loved this place for years. But the management of the kitchen is so awful that even the most normal breakfast rush overwhelms them. We had a 2 hour window of time to get a breakfast before my wife had to pickup a coworker to drive to Portland. An hour after ordering our food, they hadnt started it yet. They took a relaxed morning and turned it into a stressful rush. We expressed our frustration and swore (not at he, but as an exclamation of our frustration). So, the manager came and rather than apologize, gave a half apology, half excuse before focusing on our mistreatment of his waitress. He essentially blamed us for the problem, not the 90 minute wait for bacon and eggs. A manager in such a situation has one opportunity to make things right. He failed and made things worse by focussing on us as the problem, not his own mismanagement. He could have fixed everything by beginning with a remedy for his mistakes, then expressing concern for how we treated his waitress. Instead, he may have lost a regular customer for life. Anyone who knows me knows how much I respect people working in the food service industry. It takes a LOT to get me where we were. And Im not proud that we reacted that way. We apologised the moment he raised the issue. But he made the whole situation our problem, not his. He shifted the blame to us. That is unacceptable! I truly this was a unique issue today. We have loved this place for years. But we were not alone today. We saw a large group get their food delivered 20 minutes apart and tables get fed who arrived after wed ordered. The wait staff was short staffed for the number of tables and also had to play hostess and bus tables. The kitchen looked frantic. But it is not unreasonable under the busiest of times to expect Eggs Benedict and Bacon and Eggs to less than an hour. And it is never appropriate to blame upset customers. I hope this place can figure out how to manage the kitchen better. I feel so badly for the front of the house!

ABSOLUTE WORST execution of a group event EVER! We had a group of approximately 60 people and paid $20/person. I dont know where to begin. First they had us upstairs. I believe we had 3 long tables (with 8 chairs each) and 3 small round tables (high tops where 2-3 people can stand -no chairs). So most of the people were standing and some were sitting on the windowsill. Some people were out of the main room standing close to the restrooms! I really wish I had taken a picture of the buffet that was set up but I didnt want to offend people that were eating. For $20/person and a total of over $1300, we had burger patties swimming in a vat of water, ice-cold hamburger buns, chips, guacamole, French fries and some veggies. The "food bar" was not well maintained and ran out of ketchup. When I asked for more ketchup, the server brought 2 empty bottles of ketchup to the bar. The bathrooms were out of toilet. Then some of the people sitting next to me asked for a soda. The server said she wasnt sure if sodas were included in our event. She later returned to tell them that, "at this time, sodas are not included." This was about all I could take. I went downstairs to speak with a manager who also was unaware of what our situation was. While she did get ketchup passes around and said she was getting the buns warmed up (as they are normally served room temperature -but mine was freezing cold) she let us know soft drinks were not included. Engine House you should be ASHAMED! For over $300/hour and the quality of food you served and the lack of service we received. Absolutely terrible! By the way that room should not have held over 30 people in the state it was in... I do not recommend groups go here!

My big brother took me here for lunch today, 5/24/2017, on my request and IT WAS AWESOME! Our server was Camron (aka Cam) and he was absolutely kind, professional, helpful, and quick to take care of every request we had! WHAT A BLESSING to find a nice eatery near where I live ! I moved here 3 years ago from Seattle and always wanted to visit your establishment and today MY SOCKS GOT KNOCKED OFF as were my older brother!!!! I had to call just now to get our servers name and Sadye (sorry if I spelled it wrong...she spelled it for me but my writing kinda sucks) she told me who our waiter was.... so A SHOUT OUT TO CAM, SADIE/SADYE...AND #9....AWESOME FOOD, awesome CLEAN place, AWESOME PRICES, AWESOME WAIT STAFF....I am going to sneak back up there later next week and try having a quiet lunch after the lunch folks come in....Im retired and, for the quality, value, kindness ESPECIALLY THE KINDNESS, I want to come back at least 1x a month (Im retired, on a fixed income) I want to have a great lunch !!! Your FRENCH FRYS ARE HEAVEN! Please tell Cam and Sadie thank you from me...give them RAISES!!!! What a blessing to go to a restaurant in my neighborhood that reminds me of when I was growing up in Chicago....GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!! VISIT THIS PLACE!!!! IT IS A W E S O M E!!!!!

For me, after three separate times giving it a try, this is a big no-no. The first time I ate here was a grab-and-go with some burgers. Overall they were OK, but the patties were so overly salty and I couldnt taste anything else. Second time we went in to sit down (boyfriend didnt mind the burger and we thought hey, maybe itll be better if we sit down and try it out.) and I ordered a chicken fried steak, one of my favorite foods. It was truly awful and disappointing, the beautifully battered and fried steak was drown in this really awful tasting gravy. On top of it tasting horrible, it wasnt cheap either. The final time I ate here was another grab-and-go. We didnt have time to care about where is was from, so I got fish and chips. When I made it back to work and sat down to eat, I quickly found the batter wasnt even cooked all the way. RAW. BEER. BATTER. I was done, cant even get fish and chips right or a burger! Definitely not eating here again, too pricey and too many screw ups!!!!

Ive frequented E9 since my college days in the late 80s, and am very disappointed in what has become of one of my old school favorites. The food-while I appreciate the varied menu, the food is usually undercooked and bland (cold burritos and quesadillas, nasty), recommend eating at Masa next door. The beer-again, great variety, however the E9 beers brewed on location are bland and seem tainted with various off-flavours. The service-most of the good wait staff has moved on to other venues. The Beer Club-the final straw for me. Ive completed five beer clubs to date, and the current owner has refused to honor his end of the bargain. Not a single beer club plaque has been honored or updated in almost two years. I have complained several times to staff, and they blame it on the new ownership. I sadly am no longer a patron of E9 and would discourage anyone step foot in this place until the owner listens to his staff and patrons, and takes corrective action.
