This has been our favorite neighborhood Italian restaurant for years, but the last two times they have been off their game. Have always had excellent pasta cooked to perfection, but not the last two dinners. The first meal recently was a special with fresh New England lobster. Really fishy flavor and lobster was over cooked. They did make it right, but was really disappointed in our meal. The replacement pasta dish was tasty, but pasta was way too al dente. Had the same experience several days ago with their fresh pappardelle undercooked once again. Also I ordered off the special sheet but received the regular pappardelle with veal. Did not send it back because everyone else at our table had their food and I didnt want them to have to wait. Also, I have ordered this pasta dish many times and its yummy, so I kept it. Was a good thing I did because our waitress who didnt deliver our food, returned shortly after we were served and when I mentioned the error, I was told they were out of the special ragu. We love the ambiance at Picolinos and the wait staff is always very pleasant. You never feel rushed by anyone. If they are busy you may have to wait a bit for your order, but just sitting there, enjoying the different rooms, sipping your wine has never bothered us, as we know the wait will be worth it. Or at least up until the last two dinners. Please Picolinos, do an overview and see if you come up with an answer. I know there has been some changes in the kitchen, but right now I cant say they have been for the better.

Had a disappointing experience here this evening. We went with another couple and apparently we had a new waiter (which wasnt the issue). The waiter mistakenly ordered another item for one of our table mates. When the rest of our entrees arrived, the wrong entree was brought to the table, so they gave the rest of us our meals and said the other entree would be coming soon. The waiter apologized, and it really was ok because mistakes happen, but then they didnt even offer to comp his meal (or even discount it for being significantly later than the others -- like 15 minutes later). What was even more disappointing is that the manager repeatedly came by the table and apologized for his "trainee" and how he messed up. I feel like: if youre so sorry he made the mistake, discount or comp the meal; dont throw your new employee under the bus -- repeatedly. A comped meal would have been the classy thing to do, instead the manager ended up looking like a jerk. On top of that, we never received the appetizer we ordered and the food itself was only "ok". The ravioli was only luke warm, and to put big chunks of carrot and celery inside crab ravioli was very odd. Also, the risotto was undercooked. All around, not a great meal, but the service disappointed even more. We will not be recommending it to others.

Was in Ballard looking for a place to eat. We happened to stumble across Picolinos. Being a food critic myself I judge quickly and hard. First off our waitress Isabel was incredible, Patient, and kind. Secondly, the service in my opinion is the best bar none. Thirdly, the food with incredible with large portions. I applaud the staff, chefs and managers for running such an amazing restaurant. You truly make it look easy when it is not. I will be back for more even though we are an hour away. Bravo Picolino!! I will mention the ambiance is quite romantic but not stuffy at all. Thanx again for attention to detail!! Chow

My all time favorite place for quality Italian food. Period. The veal chop is a luscious piece of meat perfectly seasoned and enough to fill a growing man... I usually dislike the gamey taste of veal, but here it tastes like buttery piece of pork. The branzino was also a masterpiece with the amazing didplay at the tableside cracking the fish out of its shell. My favorite dishes are by far the uni pasta and the octopus appetizer. The octopus is perfectly seared and moist with a nice bite, but not rubbery. The uni pasta is full of uni-goodness with every bite. Nom nom nom

Excellent from beginning to end. A busy Friday night, but we were seated promptly (we did have reservations), and greeted by our waiter almost immediately. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Decor was very nice, would have loved to have sat out in the courtyard. Food was outstanding, everything from appetizers to pizzas to pasta through the desserts. Service was quick and pleasant, lots of cross service by the entire staff. Multiple people thanked us for coming in for dinner, always a nice touch. Very highly recommended!

We used to frequent Picolinos as its close by in the neighborhood. The food is generally good to excellent, while not mind blowing. The biggest struggle with this place is consistency of quality and service. We have been in on nights where the food was excellent and service was great. We have also been in where it took over 30mins for someone to take our order only to have the food served cold (they comped that and next meal). Over the last year it got so hit or miss we have stopped going. Thier cafe however is great.

My wife and I just enjoyed one of the best meals weve had in quite some time. We started with the bruschetta toscone, and she had a fettucine with prawns in an a fantastic truffle cream sauce. I had a grilled steak with fresh vegetables and portabella mushroom. The tiramisu for dessert with a perfect glass of port topped it off. We had no reservation and were able sit very quickly, and all the employees were very friendly, and not in a stuffy, fancy way. Very comfortable, tasty dining experience. Thanks!

This was probably the best meal I have had since moving to Seattle a year ago. Appetizer, main, and dessert were incredible, great bottle of wine and cocktails, and even a violinist playing pop culture hits like the Game of Thrones theme (we had fun guessing his tunes- "this is so familiar but I cant put my finger on where I have heard it before!") Cant say enough great things about Picolinos. I have been dreaming about the pork belly ravioli ever since. Cant wait to go again!

Tried again. Last time was awful but wanted to like it so gave it second chance Tonight was horrible. Got the special capellini and scallops. Scallops were tasteless and ruppery Pasta was bland and overcooked. Told my husband we arent going back and he Agreed . Cute place. Nice atmosphere but very bad food. !!! This is the only review Ive ever done but I felt so disappointed I just had to write this. Go somewhere else. Dont waste you calories or your money!!

Authentic Sumptuous Balanced. We have eaten here several times and every time it is consistently outstanding. The expert pizza chef delivers an upscale but hearty pizza that delights the palatte. My seafood and pasta dish was loaded with seafood and flavor. The atmosphere is gorgeous. You feel like you just stepped into another time and place with the venetian plaster and warm gold tones. Theres not enough room to say it all.....just try it!!!!!
