Today (July 12th, 2017) I ate the best sandwich I have ever eaten in my entire life here at 5th Ave Sandwich Shop in Olympia. Ive eaten sandwiches at places like Panera, and Paradise Bakery Company, and Dillys Deli. This place has the most meat and the best bread which are the 2 major components of a good sandwich. So many choices for bread here and all baked fresh right here. I got the turkey and cranberry on sourdough. My wife agreed though she claims she once made me a better sandwich. Really upset this place isnt in Arizona where we live. We stopped here on a 7000 mile road trip back down the coast. Really happy we stopped here. I never expected this place to be this amazing. I am not overstating it or exaggerating on how this sandwich was the best ever. I almost ate it all before remembering to get a pic of the sandwich (Ill post the pic so you can see what Im talking about). Im in my 30s and Ive eaten my fair share of sandwiches and sandwiches are one of my favourite foods (since they are so easy to eat). TRUST ME WHEN I SAY: IF YOU GET A SANDWICH HERE IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE BEST SANDWICH OF YOUR LIFE!!!

Im extremely disappointed with myself for not eating here sooner despite living four blocks away for four whole years. This restaurant had the feel of a diner but with way shorter hours. The service from my waitress (the owners daughter) was friendly to me and everyone in the restaurant and was incredibly fast but not in such a way where theyre trying to get you out the door as fast as possible. I ordered the Hot Oly, a beef sandwich with jalapeños and shredded cheese, and enjoyed the taste and the fact that it wasnt something vegan, gluten-free and composed with leftover meal ingredients (which is what I think of being the archetype of Olympia speciality foods). In addition to my sandwich I also got their cheddar broccoli soup, which wasnt bad at all, as well as a slice of their oreo cheesecake which was delicious.

I ate here with my Dad. We both had hot sandwiches - he had bbq roast beef and I had bbq ham. I asked for very light sauce, but my sandwich had as much sauce as my Dads - it was a lot. Also, my sandwich was not hot - the sauce was room temperature - the ham may have started out hot, but by the time they tossed it with the sauce and served it to me, it was lukewarm. This was supposed to be a hot sandwich with the cheese melted (it said this on the menu), but the cheese was cold like it was right out of the fridge. Overall, I was not happy with the food, but, Im giving them 4 stars because the service was very good and my Dad said his lunch was de-lish-ous!

Went to the 5th Ave Sandwich shop today right around noon. Its lunch time, I get it; the place was busy. You seat yourself which is fine. The problem is, with only one server she did a horrible job watching who came in first. We watched 3 tables that came in after us get served before she even noticed we were there. When she did finally come to take our order she didnt seem all that happy to be at work. While the bread was good, the rest of my sandwich was just ok. Three were in our group and everyone agreed; service is horrible, food is average. This was only my second trip to Olympia. If I go back I will definitely avoid this place.

Bonnie Elseys kids have continued on the tradition of phenomenal sandwiches. I first met Bonnie, when her shop was in Longview. After I heard she opened in Olympia, Ive made it a goal to stop by whenever possible. Since moving to North Carolina, this hasnt changed. Everytime Im in town, shes my first and last stop. Of course, we order an extra one for the plane ride home ;) Always love when other passengers and flight attendants ask where we got our amazing sandwiches.

We are conquering the list of the "13 Must Try" restaurants in Washington. This is one of them. The food was delicious, the environment fun, but the waitstaff, Im guessing in an effort to be more efficient seems less than accomodating. They dont mess around, dont worry about friendliness, and your bill is delivered with your food, so make sure you dont want dessert, or order it with your meal. I wont go back Im sure, and it made me look forward to the next restaurant!

We ate lunch here while traveling with our family including two little granddaughters. It was so good we came back the next day! Homey atmosphere with cool speckled plates. Our server was so sweet and helpful. The food was great - good soup and yummy sandwiches. She suggested perfect little meals for my little not-quite-three year old granddaughter. Friendly people, good food, and reasonable prices - just what we look for while on vacation!

So, after 5 years of traveling through Olympia and stopping at 5th Ave Sandwich Shop for lunch, we will continue to do so ... every time. We sit in the back in Hollys section and appreciate her bright smile! She is a 5th Ave gem and our kids just love her. On your way past Olympia during operating hours, you should stop in ... even if you just ate. :)

The ultimate lunch spot for a quick, tasty lunch or a social lunch. Endless possibilities with sandwich, soup or salad type of lunch. Need it to go? They rock it old school with the brown paper bags, but this isnt your moms lunch sack food from 2nd grade. As you pay, dont miss out on their bakery loaves of bread for sale (or even a to-go cookie!).

Excellent lunch place. The food tastes great and the wait staff treat you like theyre glad to see you. The Hot Oly sandwich is my favorite, but I also order the daily specials about half the time. I work within walking distance and the 5th Ave is a really good spot for a business lunch with an Olympia twist.

Wed changed our plans at the last minute and looked to Google for help and found "5th Avenue". Stopped in on a Monday afternoon for a late lunch. Exactly what we were looking for -- great sandwiches and soups (all home-made) and wonderful and friendly service. Great place! Glad we found it!

Ive been going to the sandwich shop for a number of years now. I have yet to have a bad experience. The food is incredible and comforting. The staff are prompt and friendly. My only compliant is that its only open for lunch on weekdays. I really wish they would extend their hours!

Eaten there several times and always good. Asked for horseradish on my roast beef sandwich and they went way too heavy on it, but good for sinuses I guess. Ill go back again for sure. Probably even get the same thing. Ill just make sure to ask for light horseradish.

Went in for an early lunch one day and the place was empty, which doesnt make a lot of sense; the sandwiches are substantial and the service is fantastic. Its a tad expensive for a sandwich - but considering how filled I was when I left, Ill be heading back.
