This establishment provides food that is sub-par but I found a common problem that goes across the board when it comes to this restaurant; Hygiene. Upon entering this establishment with my party of around 8-9 on Saturday, Oct 1st, 2016, We noticed our food was prepared in a manner that was very unethical and unprofessional. In all of our burritos/enchildas/etc, we found pieces of human hair. When one person found one in the beginning, we immediately began to investigate our entrees and consistently found pieces of black-brown hair in our food. This is partly due to 1) The employees not following strict hygiene guidelines which establishments like Chipotle Mexican Grill and Taco Del Mar continue to excel in, which often switch out their gloves for a fresh pair routinely, which Cafe Rio neglected and when we asked for the employee to exchange his gloves, the disrespect and lack of cooperation his demeanor showed. 2) The grill that cooks the tortillas is only big enough to fit about 2 large tortillas. Not to mention the lack of consideration for my party which were all vegetarian, and the cross-contamination of meat on our tortillas. I would not recommend this establishment to any consumers until they show tangible evidence of superior hygiene and organization. This is an unbiased review of Cafe Rio Restaurant near Lake Meridian, Washington.

Location: In plaza with trader joes and various other stores in kent. Nice size and location. Cleanliness: I walked in and liked the fact that it looked very clean and well taken care of. Bathrooms are clean which make me feel if the bathrooms are clean kitchen is just a clean. Style/Decor : inside is done nicely. Lots of space and chairs for groups of needed. The kitchen is huge and staff is humongous. 3 tvs showing how everything is made an how fresh it is. Very nice space. Smell/taste/touch/ ordering: You walk in and it smells delicious. Ordering the food is very simple. Choose what you want go down the line and continue choosing and done. Pork barbacoa burrito: super delicious! The pork is very sweet but delicious. Definitely add hotsauce if your not big on sweet pork. The hotsauce makes the sweet pork taste even better. The combination of sweet and spicy is very good. Ask for enchilada style:melted cheese sauce in top of burrito. Pork Barbacoa Taco Salad: very, very good. It was huuge portions of food, super delicious! Only thing I wasnt fan of was they used a tortilla instead of a hard taco shell as bowl. I think that would make it sooo much better. The food is very good, fresh, and definitely better than chipotle, and qdoba. Better portions, fresher food and very friendly staff!

While the food is decent, there always seems to be a lack of efficiency, and it seems to be, that all of the staff hate their jobs (I would hate my job as well, if I worked it such a poorly ran environment). I ordered a Chicken Quesadila, and all was well, up into the point where a girl (which I assume was the shift manager), started piling meals with mine, and paid no attention to who the meals belonged to, nor did she tell the cashier. When I got up to the register, I had to stop the cashier from putting all 3 of the meals, in a bag for my order, and tell her that I only had a Quesadila, and that the other two meals werent mine. Upon telling the cashier this, she proceeded to tell me that she had to go to the bathroom, but couldnt leave, instead of handing me my receipt, she wandered off, and I grabbed it on my own. While Cafe Rio has decent food, their staff is severely lacking.... Would only recommend going here, if the staff was better. Oh, and on previous occasions, Ive had one staff memeber in particular, make uncomfortable advances towards me...

Very disappointing place to pick up dinner since Julie the night manger moved to days. A lot of the newer staff are poorly trained and not well versed in customer service. They are impatient and difficult. Normally we return because there are a couple people on the line who have worked there since the location opened but they appeared to be off schedule tonight. Instead we found 2 new girls in the middle of the line and running the register who lacked the skills to do their job. The register was the worse. Who takes 4 small plastic containers of sauce and dumps them in the bottom of a bag under 2 heavy food containers? Definitely worth the drive to Federal Way to miss this roadside hazard unless the old staff are on duty.

Ive been a couple of times to this location and the service seems to have degraded from when it first opened. Opening month there was a lot of energy from the employees, but that seems to have dissipated. Ordering took longer than usual from Cafe Rio on my most recent visit and communication from the employees was poor. I still love the food, Im just not impressed with the staff at this location, especially since Ive been to a lot of other locations, all with a fairly consistent higher bar than this facility is operating at.

The place was filthy, no more than 2 tables occupied during the whole visit during lunch but every table was dirty. Tables, floors, windows, bathrooms all very dirty. Only 2 specialty drinks were operating, Horchata and Strawberry Lemonade - the strawberry lemonade tasted like vinegar, my lunch partner thought so too. Manager said SL was supposed to taste like that and thanked me for the feedback on cleanliness. Cafe Rio always a favorite at another location, wont be returning to this one.

Gotta say, not bad, pretty much like every other Mission style Burrito joint. Its a casual/fast food style. Fresh and deli style ordering. What sets them apart is 1) fresh rolled tortillas 2) free quesadillas for kids under 8 or 9. Thats a win in my book. Things that I noticed that could be improved 1) Psssh theyre salsa aint hot. The "Spicey" doesnt even register on my wifes spicey scale. 2) Had the Barbacoa, Too sweet. Other than that. I like it.

I wanted to like it...again and again and again and again...and fail after fail after fail, I still hold out hope. More times than not the service is terrible (meow!), there is always something out-of-stock (like pico de gallo on Friday by 7pm?!), and the food is all over the place, sometimes burned, sometimes suspiciously old smelling (dont ask). They have such potential, but something is amiss. Shape up, Cafe Rio! I really want to like you.

10 dollars for a taco and a drink. A complete rip-off and the atmosphere was literately as depressing as the holocaust. The server got mad at me because I had said that I had gotten the wrong meal and they had to go back and make it. Truly a disappointment and no where near authentic Mexican food. Will not be going back EVER!

Horrible Service. Not a friendly/smiley face from any of the employees. Your $4 taco comes with little filling, and adds up quickly when you start adding $1 for each topping which they dont even tell you about until after theyve added it on. Location wasnt clean and garbage was over flowing. I wont be coming back here.

2nd time with phone app. It was not working. Called to see if they received it and was put on hold for 5min. Hung up and husband just went in and ordered to go. Chicken salad that he paid for has no chicken. The quality has steadily gone down since opening. Probably will not be back.
