I give Sun Break an "excellent" because theyre excellent at what they do, and what they do is warm, big, satisfying servings of comfort food. Excellent service too, especially if you like spunky servers who vaguely remind you of Larry the Cable Guy who give you a hard time for texting at the table (why would you text when youre across the table from someone anyway?). Try their hot chocolate first. It reminds you of camping, in its blue tin cup. Well, that is if you actually get to drinking the hot chocolate after getting through the Mt. Everest whipped cream on top. They turn their hot chocolate machine off after they stop serving breakfast at 11am (yes, it comes from a machine, but the whipped cream makes it so worth it), but I found out theyre happy to turn it back on for you in the middle of the day if you have half an hour to wait for it. Ive done it three times (I like whipped cream with my hot chocolate). The PB&J-sandwich-turned-French-Toast is its own kind of amazing, or, even better, the cream cheese and strawberry jam sandwich made the same way. Its basically globs of sugar and carbs, which you wouldnt want to eat every day, or even every week, but sometimes its just what the doctor ordered. And the soup. Yum. She makes the soup daily (so you never know when your split pea is going to be pureed or not). And they have no real schedule for the soup, so if you call in asking for, say, the lima bean soup (which sounds kind of terrible, but is actually delicious) theyll probably say they can make it for you just about whenever youd like it. I called in on a Wednesday, and they asked me what day I want them to make it. I walked in happily the next day to find it on the menu. They aim to please. I should probably mention their massive cookies they have sitting on a cookie sheet by the till and loaves of banana bread. Cant forget about the cookies. Or their sandwiches. Kranberry Karen is especially messy and delicious. So, its excellent. Not in a downtown Seattle Metropolitan Grill or Pink Door kind of way, but in its own small-town comfort food kind of way that really really grows on you. Its my favorite eatery in Auburn, thats for sure.

Rabbit Hole
I have to disagree with the general tone of enthusiasm about this place, despite that its popular enough at 9:30am on a Sunday, that I waited in a line that went to the front door. I sat for 10 minutes before I was approached, which was after my waitress brought out all her tables meals, before I got even coffee (which could not have been old but was bitter and "bad" as far as my pallets discernment), much less a greeting, and no water ever came, despite that every other of my waitresses tables did have water. When the meals came, my eggs were over done and my hash browns were aldente (undercooked, had a bite), and were the most flavorless hash browns I have ever had, and neither were hot. The hash browns tasted of metal and a bit smokey like burned oil, as well as being a bit cool. No one came to ask me how it was so I just muddled through. I was hungry but I found myself plodding through my remarkably tasteless meal. I got about 2/3rds through and had temporarily lost interest(took a break), when my waitress finally came and asked if I wanted a box. I said no thanks, Id just breath a minute and finish up and then asked where the rest room was. As soon as I sat back down, before I could take another bite, she came again and asked if I wanted a box. I was being rushed. I left my unfinished meal, unable to stomach another minute in this place. I know I was not sitting long because at the pay line, I was in front of the folks who were sat just before I was. It was probably the worst dining experience of my favorite meal out, ever. I could not make myself go back and leave any tip at all. Portions of those bad potatoes were very healthy is the best I can say. But ugh, to the entire experience, just really unpleasant in every way. I waited on tables for 13yrs, so I give lots of grace and lee way, but this was just an unredeemable experience on every front. Id say the food was awful, and thats hard to do to a simple meal of eggs, hash browns and coffee. Id never go back, not even for a free meal.

Do not waste your time. Horrible Management. My husband, daughter and myself stood in line for an hour. today. When it was our turn to be seated, we said we wanted a table for 4. We had invited on son to join us, but he hadnt made it there yet. The man said I will seat you when your fourth person gets here and he proceeded to seat the next customers. I said we dont want to wait for our son, we are not sure if he is even coming. We would like to be seated. He said, and I quote "I DONT SELL BREAKFAST HERE, I SELL SPACE AT TABLES" When my husband said there must be some sort of misunderstanding, WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE. I will never take my friends or family to a place that sells time at their restaurant instead of a great dining experience. They should have a sign that says "we are in the business of turning down business" I have only eaten at this diner twice in my 15 years of living in Auburn, which doesnt speak that well of my prior experiences here. I recommend a short drive out to the Kettle, in downtown Enumclaw. They are very friendly family owned diner. You can sit and sip on your coffee for as long as you would like after enjoying their extra large size meals, expect to take home a doggie bag from this place, but more importantly, expect to enjoy your dining experience. The Sun Break Cafe needs a Reality Check and anyone who continues to eat there after reading this review is ignoring what quality dining is all about.

insulting owner. forces there patrons to stand, i was with my father who had terminal cancer. i asked the hostes if i could stamd in line and have my father wait in the car untill it was time to be seated.when my turn came up. the owner a tall man with glasses. told me i had to go to the back of the line i explained the situation and he called me a fu*king liar to my face. i wanted to leave but my father had to eat.so we all stand in line and wait, from the back of he line. When we were once again at the front of the line this nasty owner got in my dads face and told he didnt look like he had cancer. then looked at me and called me a liar to my face a second time. my father spoke up and said "no my son tells the truth, im dying of cancer in six major organs and i probally wont make it through the year." where the owner said what ever you dont look sick if you want to sit and eat at my resturant thats fine. i hope this ass hole dosnt suffer like my dad but man i wish some one would bring him down a peg. All in all fu*k shunrise cafe.
