I dont typically write reviews for, well, anything, but I found my overall experience at the Steamliner Diner so underwhelming that Ive decided to do so. We arrived at a busy time of the dat, an were willing to wait for space. At one point, another person in line asked how long it would be before they were seated and the server, who had heretofore completely ignored us, said that she couldnt provide an estimate. Really? So, she left and continued to ignore us until there was finally space at the bar. SS a result, we got a chance to witness the complete chaos in the kitchen. It didnt seem as though the meni was new for the day (it was laminated and posted outside of the restaurant), but there was no apparent system or logic to their food prep. I did see my eggs benedict made, and actually thought that it might be good. The hollandaise was subtle in flavor, though I prefer a bit more of a lemon flavor. The eggs were over-poached. The meal was served with hashbrowns which were crispy on one side, but hadnt been turned and so were undercooked on the other. These were doused in something yellow (that turned out to be lemon pepper) which completely overwhelmed the pallet making any other flavors on the plate irrelevant for the rest of the meal. The lemonade was good, though.

After a drastic menu change (at dinner) this long time Bainbridge breakfast standout begs the question -- Does this resto have any long term viability? Formerly a solid, surprisingly good seasonal Farm to Table meets Continental California Cuisine inspired menu to a Middle Eastern set menu featuring Kababs, Israeli Salad, Falafal, etc, etc. -- .oh and for almost no reason whatsoever... Tacos. Down from 4.5 stars down to a somwhat generous 3. With trepidation I rdered the Chicken Kabobs (I was hungry) and in shock. Low and behold - ok, more than I expected (a good thing). But the mixed green salad with cucumber dressing was way overdressed. On the other side of the plate, the steamed brown rice sat dry and undressed all together. Bland. Chicken Kabobs with a Harissa dry rub were tasty, but not great. Mango Prawns Im afraid were not editable. Not properly cleaned. All appeared healthy, just not exceptional. Would I still try it again? Yes --- as the table next to mine actually raved about the Tacos... Go figure.

This is THE spot for breakfast on B.I. Located on the left just a few blocks from the ferry terminal, this local staples acts as a gateway to the main drag. Food is aplenty, service nice and the feel of the place is just lovely! The omelettes are consistently fantastic. My wife had the A-B-C-T (avocado, bacon, jack cheese and tomato) omelette and it was amazing! The kicker however was the biscuit! These guys are to die for and when paired with the strawberry and/or raspberry jams - this stuff is good enough to spoon by itself! I had the chicken sausage scramble - again awesome! It was like a delicious bomb went off on a farm and it all landed on my plate! Paired with the biscuit and some of the better hashbrowns ever ever and we had one of the better breakfasts in a long while. The coffee was great and they kept my mug full the entire time! One of my wifes favorite places in HS and now one of mine! Well be back whenever we visit and we recommend you try it if you have the chance!

Went with my son early Saturday morning. We hopped on the ferry from Seattle and googled breakfast bainbridge island. This was the first return and rightfully so. While I would not claim myself to be any sort of bonafide judge per se, but...the italian omelet was the best omelt I have ever had. The service was great, the staff was friendly and QUICK, the line was out the door (always a good sign) and the ambience was quintessential pacific NW. Small and rusitc, warm and quaint on an unusually cold day, it was well worth the ferry fare from Seattle to enjoy such simple fresh fare. I recommend without reservation and will return soon. It was a much appreciated change from the "overdunnit" Seattle restaurants. It was simple, yet unique and delicious without being obviously awkwardly ostetatious. The prices were more than reasonable.

Not what I expected. Unpleasantly surprised. The name of the restaurant implying diner food and atmosphere was extremely misleading. Maybe it was the fact that I went during dinner hours. (The breakfast reviews seem to be excellent.) The waitress mentioned that the menu had just been changed that week. Either way I was severely unimpressed due to the fact that i paid $22 for a cut of halibut. Not outrageous, but when I see a place with diner in the name, there are certain ideas that come to me, i.e. Dennys. The selection was narrow. No kid friendly options. The portions were small unless you got pasta. The waitress was all over the place and there was only one table besides ourselves. We left spending over 150.00 for 5 entrees. Not worth it. Wont return.

As a first time visitor to the US I asked the waitress what the Whistling Veggie Chili was. She replied: "What do you mean what is the Whistling Veggie Chili " She was so rude. If she ever came to Adelaide and asked what a pie floater was I wouldnt reply with such disdain. I would say that the pie floater is a meat pie served in mushy pea soup. Honestly, her attitude just dampened the mood of that place. And when we finished we had to ask for the bill twice. The 3 waiting staff were busy chatting amongst themselves to pay us any attention. Anyway the Whistling Veggie Chili Topped with melted jack cheese, sour cream & green onion was ok but I couldnt taste any chili! Good grief.

This place is so cozy! I often take friends and family here for breakfast when they are in town--just to get the full PNW experience. But I dont get to come here for dinner that often (I dont live on BI). But I wish I could. I had the scallops with polenta, squash, and brussels spouts and my friend had the pike with cous cous and a creamy, smokey tomato sauce. Both were excellent, though I liked my friends a little better than mine. :-) The service is friendly and if you sit at the counter, you can watch the cooks work. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try! Ill have to go back soon!

Arrived on a medium busy Sunday, put our name on the waiting list for two. After about a twenty minute wait another couple several slots down the list was seated ahead of us...no big deal, we pointed it out and the next available seat was promised to us. After being seated they came to us and asked us to give up the table for another couple that was ahead of us on the list, no apology for the error, no offer of another seat. I pointed out the hypocrisy of this and she we just was not interested. The pastries across the street at the Winslow Mall were amazing!

We were on BI for two days last fall and wound up eating breakfast at the Streamliner both days. We were 7 days into a 12 day, 3000mi road trip and this was our first feeling of calm after a medical emergency in SD. We had fine service, and Minneapolis has crowded breakfast spots, so we felt at home with a wait and a tight fit. Best buttermilk biscuits wed ever had, and became a benchmark for the rest of our trip. Eiji in San Francisco gets 4 biscuits. Crescent city, CA gets zero biscuits. Streamliner, you get 5 biscuits for your biscuits and adorable patio.
