I was on a mission, a mission to have one of the best burgers in Virginia Beach. Its been a while since Ive been down to the oceanfront. Especially the area called The Block, which encompasses the space between 21st & 22nd street and Atlantic & Pacific Avenues. I think the last time I spent any real time down here was a bar crawl about 5 years ago. I parked over in the free city parking which used to the the Dome back in the day. Its a little bit of a walk, but it beats the meter. Back in the mid 90s this area was my stomping grounds for a few years. I was fresh out of the Navy and going to TCC. As I walked past the businesses on Atlantic Ave I can see that a lot has changed since then, and a lot hasnt. The bars I used to frequent are all gone and replaced by... well the exact same thing. Only now a days you cant buy pizza slice at a window. Good job City of VB. Way to win over the locals. But I digress. I rounded the corner onto 22nd where the Quick Food Mart is still standing and walked into Repeal Bourbons and Burgers. From my first step in the door I had a good felling about the place. The lights were dim and an old blues song could be heard playing on the house system. I looked to my right and booths were mostly full of folks enjoying their lunch. I decided to take a seat a the bar and take a look around. The joint definitely has the air of an old speakeasy. Haze grey walls on the bar side and the dining room side has a kinda crumbled rock with a rust colored paint job. Between the bar and the dining room is a community table thats propped up on old whisky barrels. The furniture is black. Like I said, it looks like a speakeasy. The bar is full of whisky bottles. Take your pick, your favorite is probably there. I prefer Woodford Reserve and found it right away. The bartender, and I think the only person working the entire floor, immediately brought over a menu and asked what I would like to drink. He let me know they had Pepsi products there, however when I asked for a Mt. Dew they didnt carry it. I opted for some tea because it was just to early to be sipping whiskey. But I did look over the whisky menu. The font half has all the regular drinks you know and love, Rob Roy, Bowery Boy, etc. The back side how to make your own mix. Pretty cool idea. For lunch I ended up ordering the a burger called The Prohibition which comes with the following. Surry County Bacon, Free Range Over Easy Egg, Cheddar Cheese, Swiss Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and Onion. For fries I just ordered them regular. I know, I know, I could have had seasoned fries, however the pain fries were just as good. Theyre beer battered and excellent with just a touch of salt. In no time at all my lunch was in front of me and the burger was cooked exactly as I had asked, medium well. Repeal takes pride in its food. The burger looked as delicious as it smelled and the portions were excellent for the price. Since this was breakfast as well as lunch for for me, the burger didnt stand a chance. The taste was excellent, especially with the fried egg included. Prohibition is over and that burger and fries was gone in record time. I wish I could have stuck around a bit longer but I had things to do. But Ill be back soon... I guarantee it.

I cant believe I havent written a review on my experience at Repeal sooner! I swear I had. Maybe in my mind I did. I do that all the time! So anyway -- I. Am. In. Love. Great location although it could be a bit of a walk from parking as there is really no dedicated parking lot for them. Tiny establishment so beware that you might have a bit of a wait as well. But trust me when I say this. Are you ready??? IT IS WORTH IT!! Its kind of divey but the burgers are so out of this world with drool dripping off your chin that you cant help that lip smacking noise cuz its so freaking delicious. And the fries?! Listen up, kids and repeat after me -BACON DUSTED FRIES- Brown sugar sprinkled all over fresh, hot, greasy fries!!!! It makes a woman like myself to sputter all sorts of unlady-like language all over the place. It is so Gdang scrumdillyumptious. Almost better than... ok lets not get carried away... It was my first time having bourbon as well. Like, real bourbon. Not talking about "Bourbon Chicken" you find at the fast food Chinese joint in the mall either. Like, real, "itll put some hair on you chest" kinda bourbon. Safe to say it isnt my type of drink but boy did my man love it. I think whatever it was that we tried could have easily sterilized any boo-boo on my body had I had one. it was smooth though, thats all I remember! Why did I wait so long to try Repeal, and wtf havent I been back?! It made such an impression on me that Im disappointed I havent returned. But I will! Pinky promise.

Visiting with the family for vacation. Saw these awesome reviews and decided to give it a try. Awesome fries and burgers burgers really good. Only thing I didnt like is I ordered parmesan fries and they gave me regular fries. Instead of taking my fries back and making it for me they just brought me a cup of oil and parmesan and wanted me to make the blend myself. Which I tried and ruined the fries. But the biggest issue for me were the flies they were everywhere . Getting onto my drink straw. Flying on my clothes and body. Very uncomfortable feeling worrying about flies flying on you and your food. Felt like I had to devour my food and not look away so flies wouldnt get into it . If the flies were not there and they brought me another fry or at least took mine back and fixed it this would be a 5 star based on taste and pricing of food. Also server was cool but diddnt apologize about flies my mom asked " if they had a fly swatter" and the server said if we kill 20 theyll come right back and made it seem normal. So please get rid of those flies !!!

First of all, Justin is the most professional/knowledgeable bartender that Ive ever encountered. And hes hot, so it makes the experience even better. The restaurant is conveniently located near the local clubs, so you can have a great meal and quality drink before going out to party. The authenticity is what truly amazed me, and this is something youll notice when you approach the door. This bar gives you an experience unlike any other bar. Apparently it hasnt been open long, but I believe that if it holds firm to its theme, it will be very successful. If ever in VA Beach, be sure to enjoy the best bourbon and burger combination at the Repeal.

My brother wanted a burger before I took him to the airport and this was the closest place. We arrived as they first opened and were the only ones there. Its a cute place and I loved the decor. The food took a bit but it was worth it. We ordered the max and cheese, truffle fries and we all ordered a different burger. We passed around our food and shared with one another. I couldnt even remember which burger I ordered but they were all wonderful. The mac and cheese was incredible. The truffle fries were, delicious as well. Will def be back soon.
