Listen up, I lived in Japan for a few years, and am married with a lovely Okinawan woman who prepares Japanese meals for me, so trust me when I say that this is the most authentic Japanese restaurant in the area. The Miso soup has authentic bonito umami, the selection of various dishes is as big as an izakaya, and the sushi is the best I could have ever hoped for in the Hampton roads. And the price is very affordable. Im never getting dragged along to an abominable "sushi king" ever again, not with this hidden gem around. Only problem here is the persistent smell of the fryers, thats really not helping their business: if you guys are listening, figure something out! Its probably keeping the more delicate folks from coming back.

Ive read all the great reviews and gave this place a shot as I LOVE sushi. The prices for their lunch specials were great so I got the 2 roll combo (spicy tuna & salmon roll) with an app of spicy tuna cocktail (tataki). The cocktail had way too much green onion & was more like a salad! The salmon roll had avocado in it which Ive never seen before & the tuna roll was more like mush. The mall makes better sushi at their kiosk. Wont be going back!

This place is the best sushi in Hampton roads the fish is always fresh. its family owned they are very personable. I love this place nothing here compares. I love their spicy tuna cocktail best appetizer ever. Their miso soup is superb. Although the menu isnt extensive like many of the other places here. Their simple menu outshines their competitors. They have a perfect marriage of quality and quantity. This place is a must try.

This little diamond in the rough met all our expectations. It was extremely clean. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu options. The presentation was impeccable. They served fresh fish with a bountiful of flavors. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. We have found our VA Beach sushi bar! Thank you!

Delicious, super fresh sushi! This is our go-to sushi restaurant anytime that craving hits. The wait staff and sushi chef are welcoming and friendly. Our second grader loves Matsu and its become a Tuesday night tradition for dinner.

Owners are Korean, so they have a small Korean menu that I enjoy when I want a quick bite to eat. Very comfortable restaurant that has a very relaxed ambience. Cant say much about the sushi since Ive never had it here.

This is THE WORST sushi bar I have ever been to!! The sushi was not tasteful at all. It was such a waste of money. The atmosphere was mediocre. The service sucked! Dont ever go here, you will regret it.
