Ive visited Minerva a few times before and the food and service was always excellent. However, the previous times I had visited was during the lunch buffet. This time, I went for dinner. The food was great, as usual, however, I had a terrible experience with the service. Our group had five people, and each persons dish came separately. The first dish arrived, and we were excited. Then, we realized that it was the only dish that had arrived. The rest of the group hadnt relieved their dishes! So then we waited. Ten minutes later, two more dishes arrived. By this time, the first person was almost done with their dish! Another five minutes passed before the fourth dish arrived! We had to ask our server multiple times, before the final dish, a salad, arrived. The server had to ask us if everything had arrived! At a dinner service, all people should be served at the same time. By the time the last dish had arrived, the first person had finished eating, and The second straw was that 5! additional items were added to our bill, that we had not ordered, that doubled our bill! Luckily, we had carefully checked out bill before paying. This took the serving staff 3 attempts to correct! By this time, we were pretty upset and we asked to talk to the manager. The server went and asked the manager and told us that the manager was too busy to leave the kitchen. So then, we headed toward the kitchen. We met the manager, Alex, and told him our issues. He had an attitude towards us. He said he was sorry, but it was not sincere; you could tell that he was just saying that to get rid of us! He said that it didnt matter to him if we ever came back or not. The manager was very rude towards us and made no effort to explain why there was such a delay in our meals and why such a great error was made in our bill! Granted, we visited on Mothers Day, the restaurant should have been prepared for a busy service, and should be able to promptly deliver meals to all patrons at the table. While the food was good, Im not sure if Ill ever visit again.

I have read recent reviews and can conclude! The Indian wait staff is racist against Indians... There are people saying service was good! R u sure?? I have visited this restaurant many times, in fact almost all Indian restaurants in DC area. The service here is the worst. Not just that they r not capable of serving, they also do not even smile at you. The body language clearly shows that THEY DO NOT WANT U THERE! I confirmed when I funnily asked a waiter - and he complained why everyone comes here only??? On my last visit I did not tip them and asked a question - when was the last time u smiled??? I believe u should avoid this restaurant for several reasons.... 1 - I used to tip 15-20% like everyone should - every time I visit them. 2 - I could see wait staff gossiping and complaining about something. 3 - There is no scope of improvement in service, they r just not the right people! 4 - The employer probably knows about it, but still wants to continue with the same staff and not train them properly... Contact me if u need... 5 - They have messed up orders several times.. In fact couple of times they didnt even charge me for an item and I had to point it out. 6 - I have seen them arguing with customers and that too, in a wrong tone! 7 - THEY DO NOT WANT YOU THERE! THEY HATE U! I really want to meet those people who say service was good! May be they only visited the restaurant in buffet time!

Ah, what a lovely Indian restaurant. I came here for dinner and boy did I leave very full. The majority of food here is delicious, its very good quality and you get plenty of it. Fair warning that when the menu says spicy, they mean nose-running and mouth watering spicy. Also if it is busy, food will take quite a while to get to you, like half an hour. In my excitement, I forgot to take pictures of the food we ordered, but believe me when I say that it looked positively tantalizing. The temperature of the room is just fine and the bathrooms are quite clean. They have a couple TVs on the walls of the room and all of the latest Bollywood songs (and their music videos) playing, but not too loudly. The prices are a bit high in comparison to other places, but it is quality food and you get a lot so its worth it every now and then when you really want authentic Indian food. It hasnt been especially packed at all when Ive been but I dont know how it would be around buffet hours (we usually go for dinner). Overall, its a pretty nice place and I would recommend it for special evenings or if you really want a lot of quality Indian food.

OK, I am finally going to write a review for my beloved Minerva. I have been coming here for 7-8 years. Its the best and largest Indian lunch buffet around by far. They always have a seafood dish, and either a goat or lamb dish. They also always have butter chicken and tandoori for the Americans. Their coconut chutney is divine, and they try very hard to keep a huge pile of Naan, but it gets crazy busy at lunch because everyone knows its the best around! Whats better than their buffet? Their dinners! The mulligutawney soup would put the soup nazi out of business! The dinners are chock-full of primo cuts of meat. Ask them to make it mild if youre a wimp. I ask them for the spiciest thing in the world and they dont let me down! Also, the basmati rice is so delicious with subtle yet complex whispers of flavor I could be very happy with only that for my meal! (I think they add a pinch of real saffron). Its not the cheapest option for dinner, but worth every penny no question. Try the lamb vindaloo, I always say I am going to save some for leftovers - never happens - never have space for desert either!

Unfriendly to vegetarians. Do not go there. Went there yesterday with my wife and a friend. Im a vegetarian. I ordered a veggie dish. They gave me a meat dish (and said that this is the veggie dish) which unfortunately I took a byte. The only thing the manager had to say is sorry. It was not a sincere apology. I guess he is not sensitive to vegetarian who trust Indian restaurant to be sensitive about this issue. But this is not the end. When I received the check, they charged me for the veggie dish AND the meat dish (which they took away once we complained). I called the manager and I kindly suggested him to take out of the check not only the meat dish but also the veggie dish. Not because of the money. Just a recognition for their horrible mistake. He refused and said "I said sorry, isnt in enough"? I strongly suggested him to take it out of the check which he eventually did with no pleasure at all. ANY other place would have suggested it on their own and not wait for the customer to suggest it. There is nothing worse to a vegetarian than to eat meat. My fellow vegetarian friends: THIS IS NOT A PLACE FOR YOU.
