We stopped here with 2 very hungry children on Friday evening, October 21, 2016 on our way from Southern Maryland to WV for a short weekend vacation. I have to admit as we walked in and they asked if we had reservations and saw the environment that I immediately thought, this may not be the right place to sit down with 2 young children (6 & 8). However, the hostess stated, thats okay, we have a table available here. She seated us and we were served water almost immediately. The waitress followed within minutes to take our drink orders, and shortly after we were served bread (to the kids enjoyment). When we looked at the menu, I didnt see anything that the kids would eat and admit that I panicked a little. The waitress came back with our drinks, and asked to take our order. I asked if they had anything other than what was on the menu that we could order for the kids since they wouldnt eat anything listed. She immediately offered the fettuccine with just red sauce. Problem solved! I ordered the crab cakes and my husband ordered the lamb. It was about 30 minutes before we received our food, but, they did bring another serving of bread which kept the kids happy. The food came and not only was the presentation amazing, the taste was AMAZING!! Im from Southern Maryland where seafood is a way of life and I have to say these were the best crab cakes Ive ever had!! The lamb as well was melt in your mouth good. The waitress was very quick to provide refills and ask if we needed anything more. The people, although I originally thought may be bothered by the kids (and maybe a few were), were very welcoming and talked and laughed with us and I feel enjoyed the kids. I have to say this was certainly a very pleasant experience for us and I look forward to stopping here again if our travels take us through this area.

My family and I sat at the bar at The Railstop on a slow Saturday night. Two of us had the ravioli special, the other had the soup special. We all had salads. Being used to other area restaurants in a similar price range, we expected similar food and service. This was absolutely not the case. Watching the cooks work in a dirty kitchen with beat, bent, flaking pans was not conducive to our appetites. The outdated decór was a stab at "cozy", albeit an unsuccessful one. Our food arrived in a timely manner, and the salads were not bad. Our entrees arrived, and the ravioli were entirely underwhelming. I could tell that they were "house made" only because they were oddly shaped - otherwise they could have come out of a package in the freezer. The tomato and red roasted pepper sauce on the ravioli was rich but uninteresting. The soup that was advertised as a "local root vegetable soup" tasted like pureed butternut squash, with a flat flavor profile similar to that of the sauce on the ravioli. Our server, who was presumably the manager, was polite but unengaging. If youre used to Art at Hunters Head, or Ivan at Iron Bridge, you will not feel similarly welcome or comfortable at The Railstop. We will not be returning to, or recommending The Railstop. I cannot fully express how disappointed I was with a restaurant at this price point, especially considering the Zagat rating of 23, which seems wholly unbelievable.

I usually dont rate restaurants, but, my experience at this restaurant has gone from bad to terrible. I have dined here 4 times now. My best experience was when i came in on a Saturday and realize that they did not serve brunch on saturdays. I have only been there for brunch. The food is average, there are a couple good items(eggplant, burger, waffle nothing great or WoW!)We had some water and left. Its the service that sucks. Its not that anyone is mean perse. After being seated we waited 40 minutes the first time and then an hour and 14 minutes the third and final time we came. Do you know that after that wait they still managed to botch orders: they were out of dressing but served a dry salad anyway. Their LARGE ( according to their own menu) salads were.very small... i mean SMALL! WITH 2 MICROSCOPIC PIECES OF SALMON... maybe totalling 1.5 ounce i am being generous. Those salads were $15 each. I couldnt even say anything because i complained the last time i was there about missed orders and long waits. This was juat outta control. To top it off a group came in after us and was waited on served an leaving when our food just started coming out! I am not joking! You walk in and are seated quickly but wait an hour for mediocre food and service. I give a 2 and not a 1 because I feel bad for the wait staff! Their only saving grace is that there in the middle of nowhere with no competition.

Brunch was outstanding. Fifteen of us had a variety of eggs, salad, or sandwiches. Wait staff (Bethany in particular) were very personable and efficient. It’s not easy waiting on 15 people. Bethany made it seem effortless. The host was horrible, horrible, horrible which is why I couldn’t give 5 stars. Though he saw us arrive in the small restaurant, it took him quite some time to greet us; greeting more gruff than pleasant. Even though I had called ahead & made reservations, the table was not ready for us. Host wouldn’t let us sit together even though there were enough tables to accomplish it, etc., etc. I had written off the restaurant until Bethany arrived. After our meal I personally spoke with the owner, Tom Kee, who apologized and said he would talk with the host. We’ll be back but my plan is to call Tom directly and bypass that host.

This small restaurant is located in the Plains, a quiet little village just off exit 31 on the I-66. It is well worth a detour if youre passing. The food is very good and the daily specials are always good value. Portion sizes are just right: not gargantuan as in so many American restaurants. The staff are always polite and helpful, without being obtrusive. This is one of the best restaurants for miles around so call in next time youre passing on the 66.

Ive gotten eat here several times when passing through the area and I can honestly say its some of the best food Ive ever eaten. The chef here pays such close attention to every detail! If you want to simply eat a meal to get full then please go to another restaurant but if you want an experience which takes you to another realm, every bite being a journey into bliss then try the rail stop!

The Rail Stop is a nice cozy little place that you could drive by if you arent careful. So, look carefully so you dont miss it because the food is fantastic!! A party of 4 recently ate there, we each had a different appetizer and main dish and all eight items were great. We will definitely be going back.

The visit was extremely pleasant, the food was amazing and our servers were very attentive and accommodating. We had our new puppy with us and were lucky enough to find the perfect spot for all of is to have breakfast together. The three egg omelette was delectable! Thank you for the hospitality!
