Love, love, love this place. Its Korean and Cajun, but dont expect fusion food. The menu is comprised of different sized plates that are either Korean or Cajun. We go here quite frequently for date nights and every time, the food and drinks are delicious. Our favorites are the pot roast sliders, modern korean scallops (best cooked scallops Ive ever had, anywhere!), wild boar bowl, and the steak tips with garlic grits. Favorite drinks: Lemontro or Sweetheart for me, and an off-menu drink that we can never remember the name for him (I think its scotch and some other things with an orange peel flower in it). Desserts: Gateau de sirop, beignets, and chocolate, caramel, and chicory. The service is always impeccable, no matter who serves us or what day/time we are there. This is a place that belongs in the city and were lucky enough to have it out here in Sterling. We love this place so much that we had a family dinner here before our wedding a couple weeks ago. The owner, head chef, and the rest of the restaurant staff were totally accommodating, even though they dont usually take reservations for parties larger than 6 on Friday or Saturday night. We had a few guests with dietary restrictions (vegetarian, gluten-free, food allergies, etc) and the server and chef were kind enough to mark up menus for those guests indicating what they could eat or noting substitutions that would fit the dietary restrictions. The entire Mokomandy team was fantastic and worked with us to make the dinner perfect. Everyone left fat and happy. It was the perfect way to kick off our wedding weekend (or any other weekend, for that matter)!

If I could Id give them 10**. The taste of this place you can expect from the big cities like NY or Philadelphia downtown but we never expected to find it in suburbs like Sterling, VA. We had yesterday dinner there and liked it so much that came back next morning for brunch. Both experiences were PERFECT in any aspect of great dining. Details: FOOD: in between 2 meals we had Brussels sprouts, Byson dumplings, Venison meatballs, House-made noodles, Wild boar bowl, Wild mushroom/pumpkin/egg dumplings, Moko/Karae & Pasta, Beignets, Pecan mini pie, French Toast and mimosa + bloody marry + coffee from the brunch menu. EVERYTHING had AMAZING taste, a lot of creativity in flavor department, very cute presentations, quite big portions for a tapas conception of the restaurant and all the dishes were memorable which translates for us "addictive". SERVICE: attentive, nice, friendly, personable and very professional. Thank you Jennifer and Kristy for making our both experiences such a treat. AMBIANCE: Simple, clean, modern, cozy and smartly designed interior. Even with a full house not too loud (a big + for keeping a conversation). VALUE: Some dishes might feel a bit overpriced, but on the whole the experience worth every penny spent. CONCLUSION: Though we live about 2 hours away I am sure well find the way to repeat this experience as often as we can and recommend you doing the same.

Mokomandy is a local favorite of my Fiancee and I. I have been coming to Mokomandy for special occasions and great date nights for 8 years since moving to the area. It is not cheap but also not terribly expensive to eat here and get a great meal that will satisfy your adventurous taste buds as well as your appetite for $20-$40 a person, without drinks. This time we sampled a bit of the entire menu. Starters Spicy Kimchi - Had a good flavor, spicy fermented notes but not over powering. Nothing unique. Purple Rice - Lack of flavor and a bit dry, would not recommend eating this on its own. Fire Cracker Carrots - Always delicious and a personal favorite, a great way to brighten your palate before a delicious meal. Small Plates Korean Beef Tar Tar, Yukhoe - Good flavor and unique, but very pricey for the size of the dish. Medium Wild Boar Bowl & Local Duck Egg - Another staple of Mokomandy and a personal favorite. Cooked to perfection perfect balance with the egg, meat, rice, and toppings!! Large Korean Karnivore Ssam - Very delicious, lots of subtle notes of flavor with a very Large portion. Definitely a great dish if you have very hungry people as it is easy to share and a great value. I will continue to come back to Mokomandy to try their evolving menu! I have yet to be disappointed!

I went with my family to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had a reservation for 7:30 PM and we sat quickly. We waited 25 minutes before we could place our drink and food orders. They had 2-3 servers for the entire restaurant to take orders, bus tables, seat people, fill up water glasses, etc. Bar tender was also alone. It took another 15 minutes to get our first food, mixed fries served alone without any dipping sauce. Drinks came after we finished our fist appetizer. The rest of the small plates started to arrive one at a time with 4-5 minute intervals. Venison meatballs swimming in very salty brown sauce. For being a Korean Cajun restaurant, they serve Poutine from Canada. Very salty. They knew it was my birthday but, did not offer a cake. So we asked for the dessert menu. The waitress came and told us that out of the entire menu there were only 2-3 desserts available. Why? Because she said, our pastry chef takes Mondays and Tuesdays off. So by Tuesday night we dont have many desserts left. This means that by Tuesday not only are they serving 3 day old desserts but they only have few types left. I guess dont celebrate your birthday at this place on Mondays and Tuesdays. We left without eating desserts. This was my experience.

I love Asian food and was looking forward to trying this place. I was surprised at how small the servings were (Dont get the duck skewers unless you want to pay $10 for a few pieces of duck). I ordered three dishes and they all had the same overwhelming flavors. By the third dish I felt like I was eating the same thing over and over again and couldnt distinguish between the dish. Several hours after dining here, I felt really nauseous and sick. I had diarrhea and then vomited 2-3 times. I saw the food I ate come right out. I called the restaurant after this incident and informed the Chef. He was cooperative and took down details and told me hed call me back the following day but never did. Maybe I ordered a bad combination of dishes or something, but I normally enjoy this kind of food. They had good food presentation and nice interior but I personally will not be coming back because of 1) getting sick from this restaurant potentially 2) serving sizes not being worth the money 3) same overwhelming flavors in the food.

Its hard to review Mokomandy on its food alone, mostly because their menu is very fluid and changes often with the exception of a few a dozen or so of their staple items (That being said, Ive never been disappointed in their menu, and Ive been here multiple times.). So instead Ill touch on one of the best parts of this restaurant; their staff. There are a lot of restaurants in and around Sterling, what there are not a lot of are places with a terrific wait-staff whos friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about their cuisine. The bartenders are equally knowledgeable, skilled and friendly. Trust the staff to make recommendations for you if its your first time there, dont feel like you have to order main courses either as the smaller plates are filling and just as satisfying. If youre going to dine there on a weekend (especially) you WILL need a reservation as space is limited and the tables are close together. Not close enough that its intrusive or ruins the dining experience though.
