I was brought up in the South and barbecue has been my favorite meal since childhood. I do know my barbecue. Red tomato based barbecues have always been my favorite...that is until I ate here. My children talked this place up so much that I had to try it. I knew it couldnt be as good as they had claimed. To my surprise, it was all that and more. The food is so very good that I bring everyone here that visits us. I would feel terrible for depriving anyone of the opportunity to eat here. The meat is perfectly cooked (Ive had the ribs, chopped pork, and wings), moist, tender, and flavorful. The sauces? Well, there are no words. Good luck trying to find anything that compares. My children also bring everyone here and hand their cards out to their customers. Not only is the food good, but you wont find better company than Don and his wife. They are truly the nicest people youll ever meet. Theyre genuine and as real as they come. What you see is what you get. They dont put on any airs and dont try and butter anyone up. I have never had an uninteresting conversation with them. Back to the food...having been raised in the South, its hard to believe that I have NEVER liked hush puppies, BUT there are no hush puppies that taste like these. You cannot eat just one. In fact, after your first bite, anyone around you will be lucky if youre willing to share. They may just have to order their own. The coleslaw is tasty and you dont want to miss this. It complements the barbecue perfectly. The fries are beer battered and delicious! Don is quick to share his homegrown tomatoes with you. Anyway...the portion sizes are beyond generous. I think some people want to pay the price of fast food (which isnt so cheap and not much less than this) for a home-cooked meal. The place is small which gives it a more personal feel. You cant sit in there and not engage in conversation. Don will entertain you, but dont think just because you are a customer that he has to be on the same side of the fence you are on. He has his own beliefs (which happen to align with my own) and doesnt try to appease anyone although he is not in the least bit rude or mean spirited. In fact, he is quite the opposite. He is very kind. After going there one time, you kind of feel like you are visiting with family each time thereafter. He is that easy to be around. I am all over the place on this review. It is late and I am just typing as things come to mind about this place. Last but not least, if you dont try the dessert...well, lets just say, "you havent lived." Every dessert in that place is homemade and will make you not want to leave any for anyone else. His wife is the baker of these goods and let me tell you they are rich, moist, sweet, and delicious Southern baked goodies. There is no way to have a favorite. Thats about it for my review of Megallons. This place is a small slice of heaven. You are missing out if you dont try it and youll miss out on making new friends.

I am stationed at the Norfolk Naval Base and Googled BBQ with several hits. After clicking each one and some reviews I decided Megallons was the best choice to drive to (there’s not one near the base). Being from Texas I wanted something I thought would taste close to home. The location is small next to a used car shop but is painted PINK so you should find it. I was going to get some sliced beef sandwiches but he does not sell beef. I opted for the sliced pork. The owner was an older chubby gent but very nice and gave you that home cooked and proud of it feeling. I’m sure I looked out of place with my 40 year old yuppie look while he spoke to customers about missing fishing lately. After a few minutes he gave me my food and with his friendly smile and attitude I left him a tip in his tip jar. He did sell other items like the half or full rack of pork ribs, cole slaw, chicken and other items. The sliced pork sandwiches I ordered were way better than I expected and the sauce was a very good sweet and spicy flavor. I would get his milder sauce if you don’t like spicy. His regulars seemed to really trust him and he them. I told him I found him through Google and he smiled and didn’t even know he could be Googled. I wanted to laugh but I thought that would be insulting. All in all he invited me to come back and I think next time I will stay to eat instead of getting it to go.

This is one that is hard to quantify so simply. The BBQ is okay, but I question where it came from. It is not that great. The "sauce" is also an over-done horrible concoction. The brisket is horrible and sub-par They cook it at, according to one person working there, at 180 overnight. They do this by lighting a fire that burn out overnight and int he morning, the brisket, according to them,is done. When I asked for a brisket sandwich, they pulled a piece of meat from the cooler. All of the fat normally associated with a brisket was still there. they cut a few slices, heated them up in a microwave and put it on a bun. All the fat was left intact. to call it roast beef would be an insult to roast beef. The sad thing it that thi9er hush puppies appear to be home-made or at least from a mix and quit good. I have yet to try anything else. the "brisket" turned me off to the point that I have not been back since.

Fantastic food, really down-home smoked barbecue. The food is mostly pork, though, so if youre a vegetarian, this is not the place for you. The half chicken is also amazing, and is a true half chicken - enough food for at least two people. Flavors are rich and smoky, and the homemade sauces are very flavorful. The tater tots are the best Ive ever had! Plates (meat +2 sides) run about $8-9. Staff was friendly, refilling drinks constantly and even offering our service dog a bowl of water. THEY ONLY TAKE CASH, so make sure to go to the ATM first!

I run a local car dealership and we are always looking for a great meal. Someone suggested Megallons and all I can say is WOW, I have eaten BBQ all over and this is some of the best ever. Great flavor, awesome BBQ sauce and a good price served up by the owner himself. Although the place itself is small the food and the personality make this "THE" place for lunch. I have recomended Megallons to many people and will, for sure, be a customer for life. This must be one of Norfolks best kept secret.....but not for long.

Absolutely inedible. If you arent broken down in front of this place DO NOT GO HERE! I couldnt even finish the food i payed 30 dollars for. I am honestly expecting to get some kind of food poisoning from the food i ate. For the sake of your health and colon do not go here. They just heat up their food in a microwave and charge far more than it could ever be worth. They take the food out of a freezer and literally put it in a microwave. Nothing is fresh.
