We hired the smokehouse grill to cater our casual back yard wedding. They sold themselves as being very professional and experienced. This was definitely not the case. They ran out of food and our guests had to wait in line 20+ minutes for them to cook more. They argued that this was not their fault and said our guests were eating too much and accused us of having more guests than we paid for (we actually padded our number to make sure we would have plenty of food). We paid for additional staff so they would be able to easily clear dishes for the large number of people and I later found out that guests were clearing their own dishes. In the end, people were fed. And thats basically the only good thing I can say about the service we received. My best advice would be to find someone else. ******************* Just a side note - a friend saw the response by the owner and forwarded the link. I feel the need to comment because I wouldnt want any non-Eastern Shore residents to fall into the same predicament we were in. Well, that and the fact that the level of service we received still makes me furious (I never would have posted a review at all if they didnt accuse us of having too many guests. On principle, thats infuriating. I have never posted a bad review of any company before this.) The Smokehouse Grille was a last resort as our previous caterer had gone out of business 2 months before the wedding. Im sure if youre a MD local, and know the owners of the Smokehouse Grill, they will give you great service. But being NYC residents and having no personal connection to the town or the company, they were awful. Considering that the Smokehouse Grill sells themselves as a budget friendly catering option, I have a hard time believing their brides all have wedding planners. We had a set time and it was well organized, it just isnt as easy to control when your 230(!!) guests decide to stop chatting and eat. Plus, the owner who is writing the review was not actually at our wedding so he has no first hand information of what happened. The rental company (Dover Tents & Events) was actually amazing and made everything so easy for me. I highly recommend them. We allowed seating for 230 and place settings for 250 - just in case anything was dropped. I think its embarrassing that the Smokehouse Grill would need to make me sound ridiculous in order to redeem themselves. His wife originally quoted me saying "its my wedding day and you dont even care!". Wow. Our "disastrous" wedding was actually amazing besides the catering situation. I recommend that IF you are considering using the Smokehouse Grill you keep a retainer of some sort until after the wedding. Otherwise, they have all of your money before the event and they have nothing to lose......except bad reviews on Google!

My name is Shamieka, partner of the Rockstar Entertainment Group based out of NYC. Our company not only does corporate events, concerts and weddings but we specialize in weekend getaways of which we hired the smokehouse grill to cater an outdoor bbq last year August 2009. I personally met with Steve prior to the event at the site and was over an hour late due to uncontrollable traffic traveling from NYC. He was extremely accomodating then as was his staff when our event occured. They set up early as he stated they would and had plenty of food to cover my guests which amounted to over 300 ppl. The only item which my patrons had to wait for was the shrimps. The shrimps were TASTY and in HIGH demand. (Frankly, I must admit my patrons were just that greedy, most loaded their plates full of shrimp) The staff, since Steve could not attend having to oversee a wedding the day of my event just simply made more and the crowd was happy. Pleasing a crowd of over 300 ppl, from various backgrounds and who all paid for their weekend getaway in 90+ degree heat is no easy feat. Location is one thing, but we all know food is what everyone comments on. I only received rave reviews from my patrons and ended up taking the extra food back to the hotel (which everyone appreciated during our concert that night) as well as giving some food to families on the other side of the park. It was refreshing to see how Steve and his staff were so accomodating, helpful with items we orginally didnt project that we needed and the amount of food we received for the deal we garnered. The Beach Front BBQ we had last year was a success and we plan on hiring the smokehouse grill again to make this year another one for the books.

BRIDES BEWARE!! What a shame. I had been really excited to meet with these guys. Had set up an appointment (two hour travel time) to do a tasting, and checked in a few days before to make sure we were set. The owner (or manager) let me know we were not on the schedule because I didnt pay the required fee 7 days in advance to complete a tasting. Odd requirement but hey if that is their rules. And it was lost in one of the emails so I do admit to missing it. But when you are a bride juggling emails with 10 different vendors, it starts to all blur. But my question was, why didnt anyone respond weeks ago when I scheduled the time that it would not be booked until they got their money??? Or follow up with me a week ahead and say "we will take you off the schedule it you dont pay" When I brought this to their attention, THEY WITHDREW THEIR PROPOSAL and sent a nasty email with it. Funny, I work in customer service and I wouldve just apologize for the miscommunication, and tried to accommodate them. Blessing in disguise I guess, if they act like this over a TASTING, I cant imagine how we would have communicated over my WEDDING.

In response To Rachels Review, She clearly admits to not reading the email sent to her. The email specifically states in order to confirm your tasting appointment you must pay the tasting fee 7 days in advance, a very simple company policy that all brides and clients have understood for the last 18 years of being in the catering industry. It allows us to properly schedule staff and the food items required for the tasting, we are not a restaurant, we are a caterer so we order everything fresh for our tastings & events. But since Rachel chose not to read her email, she placed blame on us for not reaching out to her, to confirm why she has not made her confirmation payment.... Her emails we not of the nice nature and red flags were raised on our end. We work with multiple brides everyday and have never seen a bride act this way over a tasting appointment, so we withdrew the proposal. As you can see she is still very unhappy and feels the need to leave a negative review with a company she knows nothing about, Her loss...

We hired Smokehouse Grill for our company picnic, with only a weeks prior notice. Steve came through with flying colors.. arrived early for the setup, and got everything ready before our guests arrived. At first we though it didnt look like enough food for 40 people, but it was WAAAAY more than any one could eat, and everyone went home with doggie bags. We had pit beef, turkey and ham. Italian Sausage with peppers and onions, bbq chicken, cornbread, beans, potato salad and mac and cheese. All incredibly delicious. The meats were all tender and thin shaved.. perfect for sandwiches. Everyone at the picnic loved the food and decided that The Smokehouse Grill was an excellent new choice, after years of a local bbq rib place. The price, I thought, we also more than reasonable, for the quantity and quality of the food we received. I highly recommend The Smokehouse Grill for your next picnic event.
