While traveling, I was looking for a decent place to grab something to eat while watching a basketball game on TV. I settled on A.W. Shucks, as the pictures I found revealed a couple screens, and an even better selection of beer. Being unfamiliar with the area, it took me quite some time to find it. I actually drove by it several times, because none of the signs were lit on this particular night. After a frustratingly long search, I walked in and was greeted with a nice, if kitcshy, seafood tavern theme. The food selection is extensive, and covers just about any type of seafood you could want. The daily menu of about a dozen types of oyster varieties is nice, although I didnt venture down that road this time. There is also a rotating beer list which includes all manner of craft beers, in addition to typical national brands. I ordered a craft IPA to go along with my shrimp poboy sandwich. The sandwich was massive, and loaded with shrimp. It was served with tartar sauce, although I opted for cocktail sauce. The shrimp were lightly breaded and properly fried, and they tasted great. The rest of the sandwich was good, although I didnt care for the cole slaw that came on the sandwich. The bar area is sizeable, and has two small TVs along with one larger one. They dont turn the sound on, which was a little disappointing. If youre looking for some great seafood (particularly raw oysters) to go along with a tasty beer, A.W. Shucks is a wonderful place to dine.

Ive been here a few times and have yet to find anything to complain about! The food is delicious, the prices are fair in comparison to the portion size/quality of the food, and the staff is always very polite and attentive. Every time I come here I make sure to get the Buffalo wings to start, theyre delicious and are priced fairly for the amount of wings you get and the good portion of meat on the bone! The other thing I consistently order is the large seafood platter. For only around $20.00 something you get mussels, clams, oysters, hush puppies, shrimp, crab legs, corn, and sausage! Its so filling, and for you and a guest, you cant go wrong. The atmosphere is very laid back, they have a bar and an open air patio that can be closed up if there rain, which is nice. I can get quite busy during prime hours so just make sure you call ahead to check or prepare for a little wait, Ive personally never waited any longer than 10 minutes. I did see another reviewer recommend the burger (even provided a nice little picture) so I definitely think Ill try and tackle that maybe next time I go. I would highly recommend you try this place out whether your craving seafood or just some good old fashioned comfort food!

I went on a weekday. Not many people were there and I sat at the bar. They had a 3-4 different kinds of oysters so I asked the bartender to recommend me one and I chose one that was very briney. The dozen came out and indeed it was very briney and shocked to perfection. Tasted great and came out quick. I also had the Oyster shooter. Its a house one with there alter ego beer and I cant say I was a big fan of it. It was a concoction of beer, cocktail sauce, Tabasco, and the Oyster. It just didnt taste that great, too much beer in it, drowned the drink. I prefer a shooter without or less beer. To each their own. I also ordered the calamari. It was tender, nicely breaded, and tasted good. My entree was the Chesapeake burger: medium rare was perfect, layered with crab meat, and double cheese with old bay mayo. It was served with fries and a slice of pickle. IIRC, it was an 8 oz burger, the buns were soft and delicious, the old bay mayo was good but you had to use all of it to taste it. Service was good, the bartender was attentive, they had a good selection of beer and liquor. Overall, I went on a slow day so I expect service to be good, food was tasty and I left full and happy. I will come back.

Came here for dinner with my girlfriend. We were excited because we are from out of town and wanted some fresh oysters and good seafood. This place has an overall good rating on Google but I cannot fathom why. We both have worked in the service industry before and this place is seriously lacking when it comes to service. Im not sure of our servers name since I maybe saw her 3 times during the 2 hours we were there, tall skinny girl with long brown hair, but the servers appear to seriously be in need of some training. She took 15 minutes just to bring us our beers at the beginning of the meal and the place was not that busy since we came to eat around 8:30 at night. When she came around she would not clear dirty plates from the table or fill our water. I will say the oysters were very good, yet overpriced and there is a good beer selection. The rest of the meal was not impressive, the shrimp were tough and the sausage was boiled and had no flavor. Do not understand the hype about this place, maybe it has gone downhill recently.

We did not receive great service. We came in around 9pm (they closed at 2am), and went up to the bar. The first segment of the bar was being cleaned. We were not going to sit there, but the bartender made sure we didnt by glaring at us as we walked up. Literally, he made eye contact and glared at us. We sat further down where the main part of the bar was. That bartender was efficient, but didnt smile at us. She merely acknowledged our presence. When we were leaving (which was soon since it was so uncomfortable) someone came by with a huge smile and said thanks for coming in. My boyfriend mentioned the fact that she was the first person to smile at us since we arrived. She told us she was the manager and apologized. She then admitted that our bartender had been told that she needed to be more customer friendly, but obviously she needs more work. She asked us to come back and try them again, but we probably wont. There are too many places in the area the provide better service.

I have lunch here pretty regularly however I dont get in here for dinner quite as much as I would like to. I joined a friend here for dinner last Monday night and had a virtual feast for dinner. You could call it a Feast of Samples. While trying to decide on an entree we started off the order we started off with a side of Hush Puppies and Tomatoes with Feta. I selected the Sauteed Mussels Capellini for dinner and she ordered Steamed Mussels and Fried Calamari. We topped that off with a dozen raw oysters. My one complaint for the night, and its tiny would be that the entrees came out literately right after the appetizers arrived at the table. We had plates everywhere. The Mussels Capellini were excellent and drenched in a garlic butter sauce. You just have to try it. The Oysters were served on a bed of ice and were excellent as well. Monday nights is also all you can eat crab legs night, so I know what Ill be trying out on my next visit. :)
