By far my favorite Japanese restaurant in the area. Tachibana serves up authentic Japanese cuisine and has the freshest sushi in NoVA. How fresh? Well, the last time I ordered scallop nigiri, the scallop was still pulsing. Tachibana also offers a variety of sushi not offered in other places and has seasonal specials as well. The prices may seem offputting at first, but they are well worth every dollar as the fish is top quality and you are given a nice portion size. There are no reservations for the dining area, so large parties will have a wait. You can reserve for the sushi bar and I would definitely recommend the sushi bar if you are a party of two or less. Taka-san is my personal favorite. He works closest to the front door and is very friendly. Recommendations: the squid tempura is delicious as an appetizer. The sushi is fantastic and definitely try the specials. Otoro here is a true otoro with a high fat content that melts in your mouth. The spicy scallop roll is also a favorite. Non-sushi items such as the sukiyaki is really delicious as well. Finally, the best times to go to Tachibana are for lunch as they have great lunch specials that are cheap and delicious. Friday and Saturday nights are the best for sushi as they have just received their shipments in. But be wary as popular items are quickly sold out.

After Sushi Taro, Tachibana is my second favorite sushi restaurant in the area (or maybe tied for second with Momo Sushi). Tachibana has an excellent variety of sushi and sashimi. My favorite is definitely the spicy scallop roll, which has so much flavor and just a hint of heat. Quality is certainly better than Kotobuki in my opinion. The price is a bit pricey for the quality received (while Sushi Taro is definitely more pricey, the quality is untouchable so its more acceptable in my opinion), but the sushi and sashimi are fresh and a lot more diverse than other sushi places in the area. For those who dont like sushi, there are several varieties of stews, teriyaki and tempura.

Ive eaten here about 20 times in the past year and a half. This place used to be top drawer sushi and the absolute best in the area but it has really gone downhill over the last 6 months. The sushi quality is weak now - I ordered salmon and yellowtail nigiri style sushi...The salmon tasted (and looked) half baked, and as for the yellowtail - Tachibana brings a whole new meaning to yellowtail (it was actually yellow) - yellowtail is supposed to be light pink. Their rolls are just not up to scratch either. Such a shame as this really was at the top of its game. Would not recommend this place to anyone now.

Entertained friendshere last Friday. We live in Bethesda, Maryland but the drive is well worth the experience! We ordered several platters of Nigiri and Sashimi. Awesome! They fly in their Toro from Japan and have it as a special $7.00 per piece. My son says they make the best Tempura in the tri-state area. I think they make the best Sukiyaki. They have a big straightforward menu. Traditional Japanese is the best way to eat here. I would not recommend their soup noodles as there are more modern versions out there. We come here regularly despite the distance...and every mile is worth it.

Went here with some coworkers for lunch on a Thursday and was incredibly impressed! Im from FL, so my sushi/seafood standards are pretty high, and Tachibana did not disappoint! Ive been looking everywhere for fresh, great quality sushi and its here. I had the lunch special with chirashi, miso soup, and house salad. Everything was fresh and well seasoned, and I loved the rice flavor as well. The service was great and the food came out reasonably quickly. The only downside is that they wont split checks, but knowing that beforehand eliminates this problem. Will definitely go back!

Sushi was overall fresh and decent but nothing worth raving about. We were bummed that two of our favorites, scallop and uni were sold out that night. Thought that was rather disappointing as it was only 7:45pm and the restaurants as not that busy. The toro and yellowtail were not the best cut as they had way too much fat. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices are on the higher end for what it has to offer. Its one of those places that I would probably visit again if Im in the area but not go out of my way for.

This is a great place for Japanese food - sushi and tempura and udon noodles, etc. Ambiance is like other asian restaurants in the area - trying to be upscale but dated that will turn younger and hipper audience away. That does not stop the regulars from coming back though - its hard to find parking at busy times! Prices are moderate to pricey and service is okay. I like the udon noodles, tempura and sushi here! They have a wide selection of fish to choose from and I have never been disappointed.

While the food has been great every time I have been to the restaurant, today I experienced rudeness, and maybe even racism. On Sundays, for lunch, we were told that there is not a possibility for reservations. When it came to our turn, the hostess said there were no tables, even though there were two large tables open. I did not see many non-Asians, and maybe the fact that we are not Asian had something to do with the fact that she would not serve us, but I will never go back there.

Food is definitely not worth the level of rudeness and racism you will experience when you go there... unless you are Japanese of course. Seems like they are trying to weed-out their clientele. I guess they believe their (so-called) food quality warrants the arrogance and racism. No matter how good the food might be, the ridiculously poor service will make any meal taste foul. You are better off going to Mikaku Sushi Taro in Herndon.

My wife and i ordered for the first time from this place and it will be the last ever. We made the order over the phone and the operator was very rude. The food wasnt worth the money i spent, it was average for the sashimi and sushi and very poor for the soup, the rice and teriaki. A little bit more of ginger and soy souce wouldnt have hurt them. My fault was that i did not read deeply all the reviews before placing the order.

The food is always good and service is prompt but the hostess was extremely rude and didnt even pay attention to us for 15 minutes while we were standing there. Although our reservation was made ahead of time she didnt even bother to ask my name and the reservation time. Her manner ruined our evening although the food was good. We are not going to go back there again.

My coworkers are obsessed with this restaurant and Im not sure why. Its in a very non-descript building on the second floor. The atmosphere is pretty cookie cutter for a japanese restaurant. The food Ive had there has been pretty good, but its nothing to exclaim over. I also am never super impressed by their servers - who seem to take a long time to get anything done.

Quick service, good food but not the best Japanese weve had (but were really fussy). Kids loved Udon with shrimp and veggie tempura; Tonkatsu was okay but I guess I prefer Katsu Donburi, the Salmon Onigiri was good and really big! The salmon sushi was unfortunately not what we expected; remnants of skin and the fish was rather fatty, but nicely cut and presented.
