Ive been coming here since I moved to Myrtle Beach 4 years ago. Ive watched the steady decline in service and quality. There must of been a management change or something because I refuse to walk into this place ever again. With Miyabis a few places down, I will not be inconvenienced in the least. To be more specific, our last visit left us at a table of 6, not full by any means. It took us 10 minutes after placing our order to receive the drinks. And then another 10 for just the soup. From sit down to soup, 20 minutes elapsed. After leaving the table to just have sushi at the bar, the waitress made a little scene and proceeded to ask the rest of the table if they were "happy". Instead of correcting the issue, she decided to take the ridicule route. Amanda should of been fired on the spot. But alas, being the managers sister, I knew nothing would happen. The sushi bar is nice, the bartenders friendly, but everything else just sucks. I feel the manager could of done more to correct the situation. But just avoided us as she passed back and forth. I found this odd considering she usually speaks to us to see how everything is. The waitress even came into the bar and stared us down as we ate our sushi. It was very creepy. As a local, working at a high traffic retail establishment; Nakatos will soon be out of business simply because I will inform every curious tourist that Nakatos is the last Japanese steak house they want to try. Word of mouth kills.

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time yesterday. We always went to Miyabi and we always enjoy our experience there, but the wait was way too long for us to even try to go there. We called Nakato to inquire about their wait and we were quoted about a 25 minute wait. The wait ended up being quite longer than that and it was only a 2 seat request. Families that arrived after us were getting seating way before we did, but that may have been due to reservations. The previous reviews written about poor ventilation are very true! The whole place was quite smokey, it was hard not to cough, and you leave smelling like the food that was cooked in front of you. Before we arrived, I called to make sure I could substitute the noodles given for rice. Thinking they would even the proportion and give more rice for those who do not want noodles, I decided to get rice instead. They simply just dont give you noodles and you get the same amount of rice that everyone else that got noodles does...in a small side bowl...and charged on the bill for a full meal as if I got noodles. I guess I have to ask for extra rice, although I would probably get charged extra for that request. All negatives aside, the only positive is the food was really good. If you can push the choking on the smoke aside, the long wait, and the absence of proportional food aside, you would enjoy the experience.

Rude, slow service and insulting "attempt" by management to make it right. After being seated, waited for over 40 minutes on a slow Wednesday night at the table before our hibachi chef even arrived, and not until after I asked how much longer we were expected to wait. Waitress gave terse answers to questions about menu items, clearly could have cared less, and left dates soda empty for 15 minutes. I ordered sushi and my date ordered hibachi steak and shrimp. The sushi arrived after 15 minutes - I was done eating before my dates food had EVEN STARTED being cooked. I asked the manager whether it was normal to wait 40 minutes for the chef and for guests food to be brought out separately. She told us it was custom to hold the table for *15 minutes*, and that she would check to see how long we had been there. She returned and apologized for our "33 minute" wait and offered to remove one of my sushi rolls from the bill. Not great, but better than nothing, right? I got the check and of my $8, $9 and $4 rolls, guess which she removed? The $4 one. Removing $4 off of a $56 food bill was honestly more insulting to me than if they had not offered to remove any food at all. Needless to say neither I nor my date will be going back.

My family and I vacationed in Myrtle Beach this August and I wanted to bring my kids to the Nakato as I remember it being a great experience when I was younger. The wait was horrible, but I figured it would be worth while. After about an hr we finally sat down and the waitress took our orders. She came back about 15 mins later and got everyones drinks wrong. So another 15-20 mins goes by and our chef comes out. The family of about 7 next to us had a couple of snotty teenage girls who said they didnt want to see the fire or the entertainment that I was expecting, so the chef hardly did anything. Waste of money, waste of time. Too many other good restaurants we could have gone to. For the family sitting next to us, go to a fast food stop next time so you do not spoil everyone elses dinner!!

My family went here Thursday night. We had 6:30 reservations and still waited. Some kid puked in the middle of the restaurants. The air was not working. We spoke to the manager about 5 times. The chef had no personality nor did he entertain us. The food was disgusting. I sent my entire plate back and was still charged. We called the owner in Atlanta. A Mrs. Teet. She spoke to my aunt. Said she would call the restaurant and call us back the next day. We never heard from her again. The employees were even complaining. Customers all around us were complaining. A whole table got up and left. I love Japanese. This was the worse food ever. Please dont go here I wont ever again!!!!!

Worst service I ever had. They couldnt handle a group of 12 at a hibachi steakhouse. The air conditioner was broken, so it was a little warm with a hot grill at your table. Our appetizers were served all at different times and some were missing theirs. My appetizer came after the chef started serving my dinner and it was a shrimp cocktail. A cold appetizer comes last after dinner is served is quite unbelievable. The one star goes to the chef at our table. He was excellent and the food he cooked was very good. Otherwise, this place was a disaster in service. It felt like it was their first night open. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Called ahead and made reservations, they quoted us at 30 minutes on the phone. We get to the restaurant about 30 minutes later and they told us it would be about 30 minutes more while writing our name at the bottom of the list. They had clearly lied over the phone. After finally getting seated, the party next to us told us they had waited 50 minutes for a chef, the chef at their table told us it would probably be that long, if not longer. These wait times were at ~8:30pm on a Thursday. Avoid this restaurant, they will lie about their wait times and have you sitting there without service excessively.

Nakato is one of the original, and the best, hibachi place anywhere ever. My family used to go there for every birthday when I was growing up. Its changed over the years but it remains a legend and an institution in Myrtle Beach. Its not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. They have all of the standard hibachi options. Be sure to ask for the mustard sauce when you get your food. They dont give it to you unless you ask, and no other hibachi place has it. Its hands down the best sauce at any of these places. Put it on everything instead of that mayo stuff.
