Well, the summary of my review will be that this place is a combination of mediocre South Indian Food and outrageously rude service. SO PLEASE DONT GO. If you are in the area pining for good South Indian food like me, please go to Madras Palace instead. Long story short, we had two kids an almost 3 year old and another 5.5 year old managing ourselves lunch from a weekend buffet served on Memorial Day. 30 mins into our lunch which was spent significantly in waiting for dosas to appear on the buffet cart (that came in vanishingly small numbers), we got the bill shoved on our table and we decided to go ahead and pay just because we thought that that would get it "out of the way". 10 mins after that, a waiter who was taking away the plates told me that we should be done since there were people waiting outside. I was a little shocked since that was a first time ever at any restaurant that happened. Yet, I tried to overlook that at assured that we were not done yet. A few minutes later when I was helping myself to some desert and my wife was getting up from the table to help my older son to the bathroom, the cashier pushed the chair away from my younger son and threatened once again that we had been there too long. After I came back, I and my wife decided, for the first time ever in our lives to talk to the manager of the restaurant hoping for a resolution. While I was waiting outside with the kids, when my wife tried to complain to the manager, he barked in return saying that they had a 30 minute seating policy ( an outrageous one that was not advertised any where !) and that there were people waiting (at that point in time, none actually was waiting). When my wife said that she was not ever going to come back again, he retorted saying that he cared the least about that. The troubling thing is, this place on a weekend buffer served very very mediocre food that was not even all South Indian. They had horrible Indo-Chinese, a matar paneer, a mushroom "something"and a spinach daal, the latter three being things that you would find in a run-of-the-mill generic North Indian restaurant any where in the US. The dosa. which was rather bad came only about eight to ten at a time every 20 mins which meant that most of the time, there were none available. And still they had people waiting in queues. Granted that it was the Monday of a long weekend but it goes to show that they would continue being like this unless we the affected customers decide to take our patronship elsewhere. Also that we need more restaurants serving South Indian food and food from different parts of India in the US so that there is more competition. I for one have been to another restaurant in the area, Madras Palace and have liked it very much. Now in hindsight I realize how really really good it is. This is my best effort in ending this review on a positive note.

Very bad service from staff and the owner, unbelievably RUDE. Did you know they have a policy of putting the bill on your table if you are not done in 30mins? And further, that every staff will be sent to collect the bill (every few minutes) even though you tell them you are not done and in the middle of your meal? Picture this: you have a 20 month old child with you and you are trying your best to feed her while grabbing a few bites in between. 30mins goes by in a flash, and the bill appears from the first waiter. I explain that my wife and I are in the middle of our meal and that we did not ask for the check. He nods his head and walks away. A second waiter shows up not 5 mins later to pick up the check. I explain once again that we are not done yet. He also nods and walks away. A third waiter shows up 5 mins after that to check if a credit card or cash was present in the pouch! I was furious so I called for the manager. Manager shows up and makes a face when I explain that if they simply observe the situation they can see food still in our plates, they can stop bothering us for the bill. He simply walks away. Believe it or not, a fourth waiter shows up to give us a copy of the bill "in case" we missed the first one. I walk over to the counter where the owner sits by the register to complain about the situation. She explains that we are taking too much time and that it is the restaurant policy to turn tables every 40mins! I simply could not believe my ears. I explained to her that this is not acceptable because it is not like I was done with my meal and keeping other customers waiting! How inconsiderate and rude of them to treat customers in this way.

every customer should be treated with utmost respect. i went to one of their location at Fair fax. Horrible Management with absolute no customer service. I came with my friends to their restaurant and the management was so rude when i changed my table from one place to another. The waiter came to me and took the glasses and spoons out of the table and told me that i cannot sit here, he SHOUTED ON ME SAYING THIS!! and then i later on went to complain to the manager, the manager was standing quite and just listening to what was happened. i felt really bad in front of every one and other customers standing there. I only wanted to tell you guys that business is build with service, when you sell something always remember you are selling your service, even if there is something wrong with your customers, a polite talk can always solve the biggest matters but want happened at your restaurant was completely inappropriate. It take years to build customers and a fraction to loose one. I know it wont make a difference for you guys if you loose one customer but every customer should be treated with utmost respect. once again i really felt very bad the way they treated me at this location. I will never suggest anyone to this restaurant and at the end i didnt even get any apologies from the waiter. I told him and the manager that i would go and complain to the owner. The waiter said "Go do what ever you want, yes these were his words". I am ready to speak to the owner of this restaurant. Thank you.

Very unsatisfied with the Food, Service & Staff. 1.FOOD: Most dishes were below average. Usually, For a vegetarian South Indian hotel the key selling is traditional dishes like idli, Dosa, chutney, sambar. But here, all of those were bad. All chutneys were watery and tasted horrible. Sambar was average. Had to wait for Dosa for a long time and it wasnt good either. I am a South Indian and trust me, I hated the food here. 2.PLACE: It gets crowded and congested with very little place to move around. Too many tables and seats are put up with revenue in mind, which spoils the quality of dining. I wasnt able to move more than a few feet without bumping into someone. I think the management should get rid of a few tables, make some space for people to move around. The place looks cheap and dirty. 3.SERVICE: Horrible. This came as the cherry topping to the cake of frustration. Very inconsiderate and rude. Customers pay for their meal and they deserve to be treated nice. VERDICT : You have been warned!! Skip this place. There are way better South India restaurants in Fairfax. ALTERNATIVE restaurants to consider nearby: Saravana Palace, Paradise Biriyani Pointe.
