I had dinner at Bollywood Bistro this past weekend. After lamenting the loss of a couple of good Indian restaurants in the area, the Bollywood Bistro is an oasis in Fairfax city. The restaurant is easily accessible off of Chain Bridge Road, with the added bonus of free parking in the garage, where you are literally steps away once you exit your vehicle. The ambiance is contemporary and spacious, yet warm and inviting at the same time. The comfortable bar area beckons one to relax and take in the atmosphere. While sipping my fantastic mango martini, I was delighted to see the prints on the walls of famous Indian actors. Being a Bollywood cinema fan, I think it would be a nice touch and in keeping with the theme that the owners could show clips of popular Indian movies on the large screen TV, such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (?sp) I was with a large party, so we were seated efficiently, but in an unhurried manner. I ordered the lamb biryani, which was served cooked to perfection. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and served on a bed of fragrant basmati rice with nuts and vegetables. I was able to sample my friends dishes as well, and everything was delicious in my opinion. Portions were extremely generous and fairly priced. My taste buds are already longing for a return visit! Thank you to Punkaj, the restaurant owner, for an unforgettable dining experience!

This was our best place. We used to go there all the time. We have been traveling for a year and just got back to dine here. They have significantly lost their magic. The food portions have been reduced. Service has turned bad. Even the quality is degraded. Just like the story of all Indian businesses.......They have a great start but once they get popular...they turn horrible. Here is why:- 1. Chicken Tikka masala-----> This used to be the best chicken tikka masala in northern VA. Now their chicken is dried up.....probably old.... except for curry:chicken has no flavor. 2. We ordered 4 main-course for 3 people. Each comes with rice. We got one rice. No one ever came to ask if we needed more rice or mentioned that this is not full rice. 3. Our to-go order was a vege "paneer tikka masala" and "butter chicken". When they packed....they mixed everything in one container. As a result we had to throw away everything...since the paneer was for a vegetarian person. 4. Rice doesnt taste good anymore....the way it used to....Seems they have switched to a cheap quality rice. Highly Highly disappointed to see my fav. place turning bad!!

This review is based off the service I experienced today, 4/15/11. I met with my wife and her friend when I got off work. They had finished their meal already and I was starving. The manager approached the table and I thought he was going to take my order, but instead he demanded they pay their bill. I was shocked, before I could say anything he walked away. A server closed out the check as the manager continued to walk by the table giving rude stares. He ordered a server to remove my wife and her friends water from the table. As I observed the empty dining room I noticed he was trying to push alcohol sales and wasnt succeeding. I have worked in the restaurant industry before but after years of stress I was happy to leave. I think this manager is being stressed to raise his sales number but at the expense of customer service. If they continue business this way they will not last more than six months. I will not be going back here but would highly recommend the family oriented Bombay Garden restaurant down the street.

When I think of Bollywood Bistro, I usually think of adjectives such as contemporary, prepared, and delightful. These three words itself sum up the greatness of this Indian restaurant. I am an Indian myself and travel all around the metropolitan area to find good Indian food. Among my favorites are restaurants such as Rasika in DC, Bombay Tandoor in Tysons, 701 in DC and now Bollywood Bistro. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave, it feels like an established Indian restaurant. You typically go to a typical Indian restaurant and feel like "ughh..here comes the ordinary food with boring servers and a uncaring staff." However this restaurant finally has proved me wrong. It has great food for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The service is top notch with attentive servers who are willing to make your time there, excellent. Overall, great restaurant and love to come back even every weekend. I have also catered from these guys and that also is great. Highly Recommend.

wow wow wow. very hard to find the first time especially at night. but good that we did because it was the best indian food weve had in the DC metro area. 3 different naan, spinach mango appetizers, samosa, chicken tika masala, shrimp ginger sauce, tandoori chicken, ... so succulent, zesty, colorful. only the rice could be better. had no room for dessert. menu has wide variety of choices. but will have to return and return and return to try them all. the assistants to the waiter were much more cordial and helpful than the waiter. the owner was the most gracious of all. the name is silly and the ambiance reminds me of that of a typical american bistro. but the food is so good that no senses remain to absorb or feel the decor of the room and walls. very clean and modern in a new building attached to other eateries. they all look the same but enter here and relish the dining experience! oh, very affordable.

The food and most of the staff were excellent -- the flavors are rich, the dishes are well-executed, and the service is courteous and attentive. For a weekend lunch buffet, they had a dish I rarely see on a buffet (fish curry), and one that I had never seen before (palak makai -- spinach with corn, which was wonderful) in addition to the usual staples. The man who I assume to be the manager on duty did exhibit some of the problems that other reviewers mentioned. In our case, he wanted to sit a party of four adults and one toddly at a four-seat table. I have to think he either has no children or the worlds best-behaved children, because that really does not work well with a grabby two-year-old. We had to ask repeatedly to sit at a slightly larger table, and he flatly refused to seat us a table that would have worked even better (and which ended up empty for the entire duration of our meal).

I had dinner with some good friends at Bollywood Bistro on Friday night. We started at the beautiful bar with appetizers and martinis (the mango martini was fantastic!). Once everyone arrived we were seated in the swank dining area. The decor was very nice and current, from colorful the hanging lights to the interesting prints on the walls. The owner Pankaj was so friendly and patient with our group of 8 chatty women. I asked Pankaj for a drink recommendation, and he made me a great mojito! The waitstaff was great, answering all of our questions about the menu. Each of us ordered a different dish and shared. The food was amazing! Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful with the right about of spice... especially my FAVORITE dish the palak paneer! All of us had a great time and I really want to wish great success to Pankaj and his crew! I will back to Bollywood Bistro many times!
