On our Saturday nite "date nite", we went into Charlottesville looking for a restaurant that we hadnt tried yet, and decided on Public Fish & Oyster. Turned out to be the best dining experience weve had in a long time. If you love seafood, this is the place to go. We got there at Happy Hour and stayed for Dinner. Everything we had was prepared perfectly and delicious...the Fried Buttermilk Frog Legs were fallling off the bone tender and well seasoned; Thai Scallop Ceviche had great flavors; Fried Oysters & Pork Belly were cooked perfectly and were a great combination; the Beaver Tail & Cedar Island raw oysters were fresh, briny & buttery and needed no sauces/lemon juice; and the PEI Moulet Frites Mariniere was excellent. The personalities, knowledge, helpfulness and attitude of everyone, from our waitress Sivon, the bartender, Owner Daniel, and Chef David, was unparalleled. They did not rush us or hover over us, but were attentive and let us enjoy our meal in a leisurely manner. The restaurant is small, but not cramped and has outside tables for when the weather is nice. Tables are set up for groups of 2 up to 6. The bar is nicely stocked and can sit another 6 to 8 people. Ambiance & decor was very good. This was a date nite that well long remember, and will definitely return for an encore experience when were in the mood for seafood.

Delicious oyster selection! I have had many wonderful meals here, and especially love the pan roast and moules frites. Daniel and his staff are attentive, friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend Public to anyone looking for a wonderful seafood meal in Charlottesville.

Crab cake appetizer was outstanding. Steelhead trout was good but the stuff that came with it (cous-cous, I think) was excellent. Almost could have made a meal out of it. Service was as always, very good. Outside seating with nice weather always a treat.

Had a large group of people and called in to het a reservation. Yold it would be 830 before we could be seated. Got there a bit early and Daniel the manager was very accommodating. Service was great and thr oysters and food were fantastic.

Good service. Fantastic food. Our server was quite knowledgeable about their menu and daily specials. He accidentally forgot our tuna Crudo but was sincere with his apology and comped our dessert as a consolation. Definitely going back.
