Greq and Rich in DC on vacation said this, FANTASTIC!--we were really on a quest for good barbeque recently on a trip in DC and after finding one place that was on our search, that had gone out of business and another one, with no parking on a weekend night (impossible) we had this one next on our list. When we arrived finally, at the end of our quest-to our dismay, we were too late, it was closed. But as we pulled up to the shop a kind faced woman was just coming out of the door of the darkened shop. She saw the look of dissappointment on our faces and came over to the car. We told her the "story" of our quest and she graciously offered to go back in the shop and pull us "a few things from the fridge". When did any shop owner ever do that for you (after hours)? She proceeded to give us a little of this and a little of that and we had a wonderful chat with Annie Marie (one of the co-owners) while she was getting our order. A few minutes later we were driving back to our hotel with a story and the best barbequed pulled pork, thick spicy chili and cornbread we have had in a long long long time. We will definitely return on another occasion for more of the same and the ribs--this time we will be on time. We highly recommend this not only for the excellent food, but the for the friendliness and service--and for service above and beyond the call of duty! Go here!

Absolutely worth the drive!!! Its about 20 miles each way, but the kids ask for Backyard Barbeque ALL THE TIME so we make the drive regularly. Pulled pork was great - on par with Pierces in Williamsburg. Beef brisket was great, with smokey flavor and a very nice sauce. On the last trip we grab some Sliders with an Orange/Onion marmalade - outstanding! If you are in the neighborhood, stop by and get some BBQ. If youre not in the neighborhood - get over there so you can get some of their wonderful food!

The service is great and restaurant is in a nice area of Arlington. However the food (Ribs and Mac & Cheese is what I had) was very bland and not seasoned well at all. I believe the food caters to the clientele of the immediate area, which are middle-age Caucasian people. I believe theyre trying to aim for the Carolina-style BBQ which is vinegar based, but they just miss the mark. Some may like it but if youre use to true Carolina/Kansas City/Midwest/Texas BBQ go somewhere else

Just had them cater an event for 50 adults, 13 kids. Food was outstanding, advice and delivery was on time and on point. Flexibility of choices and their willingness to customize and get you what you want was wonderful. The kids loved the food! Estimates on food needed were dead on. Its a plan in advance service and they have events regularly, so sometimes it takes a day for them to get back to you, but they did reliably. Friends raved about the food, great place!

Every time I drove anywhere near RockyMount NC, I used to stop at Gardners (eat my fill and bring 4 pounds home) because I just could not get good barbecue in DC. Bubbas - NAH!, Famous Daves - tastes like canned. No more 4+ hour drives for me because I have GREAT barbecue right in my own backyard in Arlington. I went 10 times before I learned that the place was owned by an Arlington neighbor. Great Food + Local Owned = No more guilt and a lot MORE barbecue.

My husband picked up this BBQ and he is picky, still looking for reminders of the Texas BBQ we used to enjoy. The Pork had decent smoke to it, not artificial or overwhelming, the beans were great, the mac and cheese was good, and the coleslaw was a dill, fresh slaw - not that sweet knock-off stuff they have at grocery stores. In all, a yummy dinner, and reminder of warm days to come - I hope! Also, GREAT service from a local Arlington eatery.

They dont make there own sweet tea... And that should summarize it for any southerner. Brisket is Ok but not dry enough for Texas and not Smokey or tinder enough for anyone. (btw they arent trying to be Texas bbq) Beans are great! Not sweet, but good, and have a little tiny bit of heat to them. Pulled pork is tinder, but not Smokey. Sauce is Carolina style, wet, and liquid like

A few years ago I would have rated this place 3 stars, but the quality of their BBQ has increased over time. It has turned into a decent joint making a pretty good brisket. The pulled pork is ok and my kid has nothing but good things to say about their sausage. I havent had the ribs yet. Skip the sides here and pick up better options for cheaper at the grocery store.

The pulled pork sandwich is generous, tender and appropriately seasoned. Comes with a side of slaw. Buns were soft and tasty. The mac and cheese is creamy and delicious. Baked beans were smoky and sweet. The brownie? Heavenly. This is a new "favorite" and Ill definitely be coming back on those nights when cooking at home just isnt gonna happen.

This place is awesome! We ordered the salmon, beef brisket, mango salsa, and jalapeno cornbread. It was all very good. I wish we ordered one of everything, to say we had a favorite, but what we had was incredible. The owner was gracious with her time and the young lady at the counter was very helpful. What a great place! We will be back.

Most disappointing barbecue Ive had in the DC area. No flavor. Clearly not smoked and no attempt at smoke flavoring. No flavor at all actually! Sauce was disappointing. Limited sides. Id go back to Famous Daves over this, and Famous Daves made me sick!

Have been going to Backyard BBQ once a week for 6 yrs. Love the brisket, chili, salmon, mango and potato salads. Anne-Marie and Mike make you feel welcome and create a unique neighborhood diner experience.

I found this place last month, and I have been back a couple of times. I try every BBQ joint I see, and this is definitely one of the best places around. Friendly people and good food.

Brisket is excellently cooked, potato salad is also particularly good. Price is very reasonable for the quality food and casual environment.

Dont waste your time, flavorless, low quality, overpriced. You can seriously cook their stuff on your own grill and it will taste better!
