First, I recognize that smaller towns often over-rate the few restaurants they have, perhaps out of sheer gratitude for any options at all. And any restaurant can have a bad day. But that having been said, while traveling through SLC and on, we stopped in the Tooele Cafe Rio for a much-needed food stop and were sorely disappointed. This cafe uses a Chipotle-style line process, but done poorly. There was caked-on muck on the bins. There was a dirty bin of little cardboard bits perched near my face that was highly off-putting. Food in the bins was obviously wilted and discolored/old. Perhaps its just that Im ruined by frequent good, true NM fare, but I found their hot sauce not even a little bit spicy. Similarly, there werent even any chilies in the pico de gallo. The taste of their sauce provided with the sweet pork BBQ offering was NOT well-paired to it -- it was more like an enchilada sauce and the flavors didnt go at all well with it. (And look, Im used to a wide range of salsa/sauce possibilities from moles to salsa fresca -- this was just a BAD pairing.) To top it all off, the bathroom was downright FILTHY. Sorry guys, but this one was a total miss. The venue had decent enough decor, if they could just get their act together on the quality of the food, and cleanliness.

It was consistently a terrible experience. it was disgustingly dirty and the service was incredibly slow. it was two other customers and I in the entire restaurant with 7 employees standing around staring at people it still took 20 minutes to get through. Even going through, they were out of rice, steak, medium salsa, salmon, grilled chicken, and cheese. their answer to this was well we are out so sorry. they didnt even say well we can make some if you dont mind waiting 30 minutes or so. I thought that it was a fluke thing, but after my fourth time going there with consistently terrible experiences I decided write this review. I will not return to this location nor would I recommend going there to anyone. drive the extra twenty minutes to salt lake or just go to costa vida which is literally in the same parking lot.

Serving station was extremely messy. Loads of cross contamination (Lettuce everywhere, guacamole was brown, salsa mixed together and slopped along the buffet) There was an unpleasant pungent odor in the dinning area as well. The servings were uneven. My serving for a tostada I received about 6 oz of meat, cup of rice, cup of beans and probably 3 to 4 cups of lettuce. The person after me had to complain to get the same portion. I didnt know them but they were visibly upset and told them this happens to them frequently. Cost to value Id say was underwhelming. Even though the dinning area was clean and the food tasted on par with the competition I was put off by the cleanliness of the kitchen and the discipline of the staff. Ill go to Costa Vida next time.

Quite possibly the worst cafe Rio Ive ever been to in my 10 years of being a patron. Everything Ive ordered via internet or call in has had something wrong with it. So I started going in to watch them make it. That has mostly resolved the problem for the next couple months. But even now the last 3 times Ive been in something is off about the lettuce particularly the salad my wife gets is soggy leaving the texture of the tortilla sopping wet, and I didnt think you can mess up rice or beans. The rice is seriously under cooked, and beans were burnt or something. And when Ive gone back to have issues corrected I dont get a "sorry about that," just dirty looks from the employees who have to make it again. Makes me sad, weve always liked Cafe Rio until now.

Not one of the best Cafe Rios for sure. Service is hit and miss (usually miss), but in fairness thats pretty typical for Tooele area restaurants. The employees act like they just dont care, which is not typical of other Cafe Rios weve been to. I went there one afternoon with my wife and they were filling a to go order that was serving more than a dozen people. We waited in line for 25 minutes and not one employee said a word to us apologizing for the wait, or explaining the reason for the delay (we found out from the lady in front of us) There was only one person in front of us and after waiting for 25 minutes we finally gave up and went to Costa Vida (which is not as good, but surprisingly has better service than Cafe Rio most of the time.)

Called in order, after repeating my order 3 times, had to tell it to second person for a fourth time. Got to the drive thru, waited for 5 minutes before I was even acknowledged ,waited for my food for another few minutes to get home and have the worst quality of Cafe rio Ive seen, half the burritos ingredients were out because it wasnt even rolled up, the rice is undercooked, cant even describe the quality of other ingredients because quality isnt even the right word for it. Were new residents of Tooele this our 3rd experience with this store and each time has just gotten worse. My suggestion, take employees to the store on 5600 west in west valley and take notes in customer service, presentation, and quality. Waste of 30 bucks.

Management please, PLEASE do something about your employees customer service skills, as they have NONE. The food is great, always is, but I have never, in my entire life of being a consumer experienced service like I did today and I am not hard to please and not one to make a fuss. There were 3 people ahead of me in line. I was there for 30 minutes while I watched my cooked tostada sit on the counter and get cold while employees were going on with their conversations and arguments over whose turn it was for break while completely ignoring all of the very frustrated customers staring at them. If I didnt live cafe rio food so much I would never return to this location.

When we walked in no one greeted us or even acknowledged our existence... After a couple minutes 1 of 5 staff members that were doing nothing said "just a sec"... They finally took our orders and I went to get a drink. The machine said push so thats what I did and very little liquid came out. I told one of the staff members and she said "just pull it" and looked at me like I was a complete idiot. Hmm. The food was actually really delicious but the terrible customer service was worse than anything Ive ever experienced.

Prices are a Little bit much, but the customer service is great, cashiers are always so nice especially when they are waiting for the servers, they always try to have a Little conversation while you wait and are always apologizing and smiling. Though I wouldnt suggest coming when they are very busy, everyone seems to get a Little frustrated and overwhelmed. All in All, love the food, sweet pork tostada is my favorite, and great customer service, would recommend!

My order was just a simple chicken burrito, and it was awful. my problem was about half way into my burrito, i started tasting nothing but salt. Now why the 7/10 good review, because I went to the lady at the cashier and she was happy to replace my order with a chicken quesadilla. However service was still pretty slow. I still love Cafe Rio and will continue to go there for their delicious chicken.
