I am an absolute sushi guru and by far, this restaurant has topped my list and stole the title as my favorite sushi restaurant EVER! Now, this restaurant may not be huge like Tepanyaki or fancy like Benihana, but its definitely cozy and welcoming when it comes to the atmosphere and location. Let me start off with the service, the staff is incredibly nice! On days when it is busy and the servers cant greet me, the sushi chefs will acknowledge my existence and let me know service is coming. They definitely take care of their customers...and I must mention, that they always serve a small, but FREE dessert (either fried strawberry, jalapeno, or banana) at the end of your meal. Oh! And their sushi...is AMAZING! I usually always order the Shrimp Tempura or the Crunch roll. Their portions are very generous for the price that they sell it for. Each piece is big in circumference (not like those expensive restaurants that give you sushi the size of your thumb and charge you $15 for it). But the best part is...their sushi is DELICIOUS! The only way I can explain the taste of their sushi is TASTE BUD ORGASM! Check it out! I promise you wont regret it :)

The last time I was there we sat at the sushi bar. The chef is very friendly and even posed for the camera as well as offered to take a picture of us with out camera. Often times places that impress on the first visit let you down on followup visits. This place did not let us down. The sushi was impeccable and thanks to them my wife is now ruined for decent sushi and has a taste for quality like this. But this bodes well for Tokai. We like to try new places but when we are in SLC and craving sushi it will be hard to not just turn to a sure thing and go to Tokai. The sushi options here are impressive which is sometimes hard to find at places that make high quality rolls. Many upscale sushi joints only have half a dozen or so hand rolled sushi options. This place truly has a roll for everyone. I would like to try them all.

Ive been coming to this place for about 4 years. They changed ownership at one point I think. The last few trips here have been really good, and the keep getting better. Its almost like theyre listening to what the people want. My boys got the all you can eat sushi today and I was very pleased to see that the sushi chefs didnt over use rice as a filler. I am super picky about sushi being very fresh and I havent had any issues here. My favorite is their spicy tuna. It is consistently very good! Overall I feel its one of the better places around so I will keep going back and would recommend it to others. The service is always very friendly and fast.

Service is VERY slow. But the food is decently good if you are willing to wait. I especially like their Oh Roll. It has a good mix of flavors and is tangy. They also serve a pretty good seaweed salad (though it is a little less then I would expect for the price). They put these red pickled radishes on top that are amazing. The Sashimi sampler is also pretty good. It comes with five hefty pieces of raw fish that the chef chooses. The albacore tuna was my favorite. When they bring you the check they always give you fried bananas with whip cream which I think is a fun treat. Kind of a good way to finish off the meal.

The food is yummy! It takes a really long time to come out.. and our server was terrible. We were here for over an hour and she came by once to get our drinks. Waited another 10 minutes for her to come back to get our orders. Once to say.. "youre waiting on your food" which we knew... Weve been here for 30+ minutes at this point. Then brought our food (which we had to send back because it wasnt cooked) and then only once during the meal. Then we had to find her to get our check. I can handle waiting for food to cook, but if thats going to be the case, the servers should be more attentive. Next time, Ill order to go.

I started coming here about four years ago and the food is fantastic. Definitely my favorite place to get sushi. However, I dont know what happened. Over the last year and a half Ive been here four or five times with different groups of people, and we all end up with intense stomach pain the next day. We always order different things and one person I brought only ordered from the vegan options. I dont know why we always end up sick, but it makes me sad because they have the absolute tastiest sushi and I cant bring myself to come back.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Salt Lake. The food is consistently good. The quality of the fish isnt the absolute best, but it is worth the price you pay. The service is hit and miss. Sometimes, weve had the most amazing service, and other times it has been pretty bad. However, I can forego good service for good food at a good price. I love the complimentary dessert; it really adds a personal touch. I recommend the playboy roll!

This is my favorite sushi joint. Its not a fancy, fusion-food sushi place like many sushi restaurants in Salt Lake City. It is just a small, friendly, absolutely delicious place to get well-priced sushi, and I HIGHLY recommend it. There is sometimes a bit of a language barrier with the serving staff, but they are so nice that it absolutely makes up for it. Love the small, free desserts too. Give it a try!

The service here is phenomenal, I have been coming here since they opened, and its become a weekly tradition to get Tokai. All the rolls are fresh and the chefs are artist. Honestly the price is not bad to feed 3 or 4 people and the connected karaoke bar is perfect to make a fool of yourself in. Overall, just try this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

Best sushi in salt lake the only problem is service is horrible the last time we went we waited 20 minutes to get any service we ended up walking out. This time we waited 20 minutes for our check and we didnt end up getting refills even though we drank most of our drinks before the food arrived. I love the sushi but I have never seen such bad service.

Absolutely delicious food! We came for lunch and had the teriyaki chicken and rice bowl ($6), chicken yakisoba ($5), beef yakisoba ($5), and shrimp killer sushi roll ($6.95). Good portions and a great waiter. Took about 10 minutes from order to eating. Highly recommend it and wish we lived nearby so we could eat here often.

As a gal that used to live in Japan, Tokai satisfies my tummy when I am missing Japan. The menu is certainly geared toward "American tastes" but its about as authentic as you can get. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. The fish is always fresh. I love the lunch time bento with sashimi.

I was under the impression going in that because it wasnt a high end looking restaurant that I could get my sushi at a decent price. The sushi was good but wasnt worth the price even with the Lunch specials it didnt do a dent as far as saving me money on the Ticket. For 2 people eating 5 rolls cost $50.00
