GOOD NEWS: This place is conveniently located right next to the light rail. The local bands that play there are awesome and theres no cover to watch! Good sound system as well. The food is good. Has a nice little patio for smokers outside. There is plenty of space there. They also have a bucket filled with free matches when you walk through the door in case you need a light. The whole bar is filled with creativity and artwork. They have an old phone booth in the middle of the bar. BAD NEWS: The bathroom only has one stall. The service is fairly slow. The majority of problems occur at the bar. The drinks are expensive and not worth what you pay. A coke is $3. They fill your drink to the rim with ice, I mean pack it down. You are getting less drink and more ice. The bartenders seem to be more focused on their daily gossip then paying attention to their customers. They are rude for the most part and not very friendly either. My friend had their card charged more than what was owed because the bartender wasnt satisfied with her tip. They also have a $10 minimum for cards. Watch yourself!

One of the best burgers I have had since arriving in the area almost 3 years ago. The bartender (Sara) had a good personality and was attentive to her customers. She gave hugs to several people which she obviously knew. She definitely has two of the three qualities that attract customers. Good looking and good personality. The third quality is the ability to handle a busy bar, but on this night, I could not tell. I think they do make a few mistakes they may turn away customers. The ceiling in the bar area (I did not check out the rest) shows rusted panels. The cabinets are fairly cheap looking too. I could see people not wanting to eat here if they perceived it as a "dirty" place. They probably dont realize how that may hurt their business in general. It crossed my mind after ordering my food. The good burger eased my mind a little, but something tells me that i do not want to see their kitchen. Some cool decor caught my eyes as very unique. Great touch for a dive bar.

I thought it was a good bar! I snuck in just in time for happy hour, got a double tequila margarita for cheap, and a BLT. The bacon was cooked perfectly for BLTs, perfectly toasted toast... it was exactly what I wanted. I wish I had a marker to write my name on the walls with! They seem to encourage creative people in this bar. The bar maid was super helpful telling me how to find local amenities, and she was cute and efficient! Her shorts were a little too short, and too tight. I wouldnt have worn those if I were her. Maybe its a dress code thing. As a straight female, I tip for service, not for short, tight shorts. I have no complaints about this bar. Met some cool guys to talk to, and the bar vibe was relaxed and cool.

I LOVE this place! One of the BEST bars in AZ, if not the best bar ever! And for so many reasons... Too many to list here, it would be a novel, haha! Its a great place, cool vibe, very down to earth, not trying to hard to be anything its not... and the same is true for the people. What it does it does well. Very well. Staff are great, food is legit, drinks and prices are fair, and the music and shows they have here are awesome. Plus I ALWAYS meet cool people when I visite Tempe Tavern.

Very Unprofessional staff. They turn out-of-state people away for not having a horizontal license even though the LAWS in Arizona state its okay to have a vertical license if youre out of state. They have very Little disregard for possible costumers and could definitely lose a lot of business this way. Based off of the way everything was handled, I wouldnt want to buy a drink here anyway. It was gross.

Been coming here for a year now and we love this place. They always have great deals on beer, alcohol, and food. The staff is always welcoming and accommodating, especially Courtney and Sara :) The manager is great as well, and we will continue to visit this dive bar as long as we live in Tempe! Only downside is the weirdos that hang out at the adult store next door.

If you want to drink expired beer for jacked up prices in an old building with no air conditioning that smells like a truckers scrotum after a long haul, this is the place to go. The food is disgusting. The wait staff is usually nice at least. I have been dragged here a few times and absolutely refuse to go back.

While patronizing this establishment, I was using the mens room when the manager burst in and accused me using drugs. He was enraged and harassed me out of the bar without one shred of evidence. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being treated like garbage by the rude, inconsiderate, and down-right nasty staff.

what prompted me to write a review was they have refused service to a transgendered individual the other day who tried to get a beer after coming down the lightrail after a dbacks game. dont give these bigots your money and be careful not to get date raped by the greasy old men that frequent the bar

Tempe Tavern refused service to a member of the transgender community yesterday (in 2015). So, great place to go if your time traveling and enjoy hearty portions of homophobia & insecurity. The staff are idiots, the place is filthy and the overpriced warm beer flows freely, along with the hate.

This place is great for checking out bands that come through and to get a drink. Located right next to the lightrail too. Their drink selection is fine and their bathrooms are cool (the womens has huge paintings of adventure time on it). I will always check out bands here if I can!

Love the art in the bathroom, super cool painting. For me though, this place is just another (pretty average) dive. Good place to have a can of PBR and hang out. Service was alright the handful of times I went (2012 - 2015), but the customer base always seemed a little...rough.

A real throwback to what Mill Avenue used to be like, before it all went hipster and chain-corporate. Unpretentious, simple, good food, reasonable prices on the drinks, friendly service, juke box. Not a bad place to spend catching up with an old friend, or some new ones.

The food was great i had the jaun pueblo burger i think. they have a good selection of beer on tap. but the service was not so good though the bartender stood behind the booze station in the middle and texted the whole time i was there.

I love this little dive bar! The bartenders are always super kind, the bouncer doesnt try to be a tough guy, great selection of drinks and the food is really high end for a super cheap price!!! Its definitely my favorite spot in Tempe!

Great local dive that occasionally has music you wouldnt always expect in a Tempe bar. If the music is too loud or not for you, visit the patio or the front and have a drink where you can still chat with friends.

Good drinks. Good food. Good bands, it depends on that though. So stop crying cuz it gets good and busy. Snobs. Good dive bar with better than average food. You dont get a hot towlette after eating, star snobs.
