I have tried a handful of times to make Tantra my San Marcos coffee shop. I live in Austin and commute to school, so Tantra seemed like the perfect fit for me because of its location. However, I am now sure that I will never again spend my time nor money at Tantra for a myriad of reasons. The main problem with Tantra is its clientele. Hoards of college underclassmen gather at Tantra for absolutely no reason other than to loiter, fight, attempt to play soccer (both indoors and on the very small deck), and have pointless discussion at inappropriate volume levels. These young “patrons” are rude, disruptive, and inconsiderate of the actual paying customers. In such a situation, one would think that the staff would help control rowdy and rude customers, on the contrary – the staff join them, as they as friends (it should be noted that there is usually only one staff member working at a time. This person is usually outside drinking and smoking with the mob). Thus, Tantra provides a space for people age 21 +/- to harass and invade the space of paying customers trying to study, work, or read. I look forward to visiting a new San Marcos coffee shop where it is semi-quiet and my business is appreciated. After attempting to make Tantra work, my expectations are pretty low. In conclusion, Tantra does not want or need your business. Steer away from Tantra if you are not hostile and over the age of 21.

If you want coffee this is not the place. New owners are extremely rude. Ian one of the new owners yelled @ me with my 2 year old in my arms, "get the F*** off my property" in front of 20 people. Because I told him I would leave a negative review. Avoid this place terrible coffee, new owners are terrible! Place has went down hill! I have been a patron of Tantra for over a decade, when it was kid friendly. And quality and service have went downhill since new owners have taken over. There is alot of info regarding my situation, but this is by far the most unprofessional I have everer witnessed an owners "Resolution" of issue. I asked for an apology by how a new employee treated myself and my 2 year old. Pushing on this issue I got banned from Tantra, for supposedly "feeding my 2 year old son alcohol" lol. Idiots!

I love this place. I mean you cant go wrong with their mini pitcher happy hour from 6-6:30pm & 9-9:30pm. The staff is friendly and made up of students and locals that live in the area. It can tend to get crowded inside when students are studying in the evening, but the open courtyard they have is where most people post up. I havent gotten on their wifi yet but with the number of students studying there I would assume that its decent. Depending on the day of the week live music is played in the courtyard and good weather tends to attract a pretty lively atmosphere. If youre looking for a coffee shop I dont think theres a better one in town.

Tantra is a favorite of mine in the San Marcos area. Its location is convenient, the food is good, and they make a good cup of coffee. The owner or owners have taken great care to keep the environment clean and friendly. They support local artists by posting their work on the walls of the coffee house as well as allowing local musicians to post fliers and even hold shows on the outside stage. Talkative and friendly staff with customers to match. A good place to read, study, hang out, or have a good meal. I recommend Tantra to all residents of San Marcos and to passerbys alike. Its worth the stop!

Tantra is my favorite coffee shop in San Marcos. The baristas are all friendly, artistic, and really interesting people. There is a strong community focus, as they have implemented a farmers market on the weekend, dance and drum nights, and its the birthplace of the legendary unicycle football league. It is very child- and dog-friendly, and even has a little playground area for kids. The only con is that I dont think they have air conditioning, and despite it being a really well-ventilated house, it can get pretty hot during the summer. Aside from that, though, I love this place.

In response to the last post, Tantra is a community coffee shop. They welcome anyone looking for a place to relax or enjoy the day, even if you dont buy a coffee. they welcome the whole family with a great wine and beer selection for parents, and juices, snacks, and a swing set for the kiddies. The staff are friendly and will learn your name and drink of choice after a short while. Organic/fair-trade coffee and mate, great organic White Mountain tamales, and breakfast tacos every morning make this place a one stop shop for great snacks, drinks, and friendly smiles. 5 out of 5

Food has always been disappointing and very expensive. Coffee is great, though, and if you can drown out the sometimes obnoxious music playing over their sound system with your own headphones, it makes a good study spot (only because of the large tables you can spread out on). The clientele are largely odd, but they mostly stay outside and smoke/drink. The good beer there is really expensive, so if Im going to drink there its usually only for one or two. The staff has always been really friendly and understanding, so its a place I regularly attend.

Every experience I have had at Tantra has been positive! It is one of my favorite coffee shops in San Marcos. The staff have always been extremely welcoming, made my drinks promptly and they always taste very well done. I love the welcoming, down to earth vibe that Tantra has which sets it apart from all of the other coffee shops in San Marcos. The only downside is that you can no longer bring your dog to Tantra as you once were able to when I first moved here, but I understand that this is something the city has initiated.

i am a regular and everytime im there they are picking on a homeless guy that is trying to better him self now they banned him for what his friend did and i must say i will be contacting the homeless guy and repersent him on his behalf in court and tantra will pay for what they have done to this poor guy and i hope everyone knows that tantra is a drug spot you can find anything there the workers are most of the time high one of them is named cassey she is a weed smoker and so is many others i hope the city shuts them down

Love the environment here, Ive my best friends here! Great coffee, overpriced teas. The tacos here are great, I literally eat here all the time just because of the cheap tacos. Lots of food options but more pricey. Environment really depends on day and time, finals week its packed with stressed students, during bluegrass or shows and mini minutes lines out the door for beer special, do not want to study here then at all.

I spent many nights at Tantra listening to open mic night, or some local singer. I love the decor. Everything feels homey and cozy. The drinks are decent and not badly priced. The staff is polite and professional while still being fun. This is a college town coffee shop, and it lives up to that.
