Im pretty excited for breakfast and when a place has a menu like this I have to eat everything. I stopped here for breakfast while in town for work and literally ordered everything. I had the breakfast tacos, it was okay to me, I wasnt a fan of the seasoning on the potatoes, took away from the rest of the taco. I also ordered a half order of the biscuits and gravy. It was good but I felt the biscuit was a little over cooked so it was fairly hard. However the saving dish to my meal was the pancake of the day. It was amazing, it was fluffy and super tasty. I had to go up to the store and buy some mix, I bought a lot of mixes actually since they had a special on the mixes. I have yet to make anything though. I also ordered a cinnamon roll to go, it was giant, but it was more of a crunchy side of cinnamon rolls, Im more a soft cinnamon roll person though. The service was good, my server was very friendly and helpful. He was attentive and helped me narrow down my choices for my breakfast options. The parking is on the street and you walk through the garden area to get to the restaurant is a very nice walk actually and its not that far either. It was very crowded for a week day morning when I came here but I was alone so there was no wait for me. I feel this place is very cute and a great place to take visitors. I would recommend people who are traveling to or through San Antonio and have time for a nice breakfast go here and get some pancakes!

Im always hesitant to leave a review as opinions are as diverse & numerous as the people of NYC! But I cant let this one slide. After an hour and a half wait (with 2 children) we were seated outdoors on a chilly, windy March day. Im never a fan of eating outside where the birds anxiously await a morsel of food to be dropped---or thrown intentionally, as in the case of the ignoramos seated next to our table. I do not want a flock of black birds at my feet while eating an over-priced breakfast of cold eggs and and biscuit gravy (they call it sausage gravy on the menu, I could drink it through a straw...no problem! Trust me...no sausage in that gravy that wouldnt make it through the digestive track sans teeth!) We were never given a seating preference (indoor/outdoor) nor were we informed that there was a pastry shop open with items available for purchase for the entire time we sat and awaited "The #1 Breakfast" spot in the city. We were duped! Dont waste your time or money on the food...average at best & way over-priced. Walking the grounds & "exploring" The Museum are free. So is the coffee in the courtyard...help yourself. Save yourself the headache, eat somewhere else, and make your way there afterward for a leisurely stroll among other disgruntled patrons awaiting their experience after an hour and a half wait!

2 hour wait?! I frequently visit San Antonio and have been doing so for years. Something that has always amazed me is how Texas, who seam so full of independence and bravado, are so whipped when it comes to waiting to dine. This place shamelessly boasted a 2 hour wait at brunch, with terribly wait seating on a 100 degree day. After realizing we could possibly suffer a heat injury while waiting to be seated, our party decided to go to a neighboring restaurant with a much shorter wait, only to find the Guenther House owns the massive parking lot in this part of town and pays security guards to evict anyone who is not parked exclusively for the Guenther House. The Guenther House has the right to make people wait hours and hoard parking, but I also have the ability to rate their setting, wait time and general attitude. There are many, many excellent restaurants in San Antonio, any of which would be better than the Guenther House.

Mothers Day... Literally the worst experience I have ever encountered at a restaurant. Waitstaff manager is literally too stupid to insult. I had to get the ownership involved with a seating matter, because he is incapable of reading what was written down on his own seating chart. Basically called me a liar, showed him where he was mistaken on his own sheet, did not apologize, had to ask ownership to step in, because he was going to ask us to get up. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the plague. If you could have seen, the looks on the mothers faces sitting at my table, when approached by this idiot...you might ask yourself why didnt I drag him by his collar into the river? Easy...You cant fix STUPID!!! Perhaps ownership will recognize a liability, and send him packing, before that oxygen thief causes their business more harm. BEWARE!

Its not that theres anything bad about the breakfast here, its that theres nothing really out of the ordinary. The pancakes and waffles are perfectly fine, but the pancakes are no better than what I make at home, and the waffles are not as good as I make at home. I mean, seriously, when I go to a restaurant I dont expect to find food made from the EXACT same mixes I can use to make the same dishes at home. But thats exactly what you get here. The menu even seems to brag about the fact that they make much of the food from the same mixes you can buy. Why should I pay a restaurant premium for pancake mix pancakes? I suspect if the tour busses and trolleys didnt stop here theyd do very little business. On the positive side, the bacon was very good, but pretty pricey for only two slices. There are better places to spend your eating-out dollars.

Tried the strawberry waffle and true to promise it was exquisite. Just the right touch of sweetness, the waffle is crispy on the outside fluffy in the center. Served up with some flavorful fresh berries (no artificial syrup mess here) and real whipped cream, this plate is the stuff dreams are made of. Loved the salsa that came with the tacos. I dont know what seasoning they put on their potatoes, but o my word!!! Do not miss out on those divine little morsels. O, and the house special coffee Founders Choice, is a very robust, tasty cup of joe. I had mine with a small dash of the creamiest real cream in a tiny silver pitcher. If you can wait 45 minutes, this experience is definitely one you should indulge in. Its a very busy place, but Gabi took such good care of us once we were seated we could not be more pleased.

Great location, great service, great food! Arrived on a Friday morning a few minutes after open- no wait and speedy seating. No wait for drinks or anything really. The service was excellent and the food- breakfast was amazing! They have a couple different menus for different times during the week. This is fairly reasonable. The pastry display at entry showcases their huge and delicious pastries. Brought home the gigantic cinnamon roll, an apple cinnamon pastry and a cherry pastry. All made it thru this 6 hour drive home, and were just as yummy when eaten the next morning! Prices are reasonable for a breakfast in a historic location. Beautiful location and friendly staff, delicious food. Family friendly location as well. Worth the trip!
