My wife has been eager to try out this place that opened up at Westpointe on Highway 151 just north of Loop 410 called The Egg & I. Let me tell you right up front, I resisted because I just dont like the name. It just sounds like a goofy name for a restaurant. Perhaps a book, a blog site, or a childrens song, but I just dont see a sign for a place that says "The Egg & I" and suddenly think lunch. But I could be wrong. Business was brisk - in fact we had to wait close to 20 minutes to be seated, which I did not care for one bit. But you gotta figure that if so many people are willing to wait, it must be worth it, right? If you are going to have to wait anyway, the folks at E&I smartly placed a coffee bar in the front area so you can get a cup of their excellent coffee, free of charge. What a great idea. Since it was close to noon, my wife was pretty much coffeed out, so the free little cup was just enough for her. I wonder if Chilis would consider dispensing free Dixie cups of beer while you wait for your table? Once seated, we already knew what we wanted to order (we had about 20 minutes to figure it out) so when the waitress came to get our drink order, we gave her the full meal request. A few things you should know. First, on weekdays, they offer free wireless Wi Fi. Second, they have outdoor seating if youd care to be roasted in the sun, and third, bring a paper, a book, or perhaps a board game to play, because the wait for our meal was forever. Honestly. In terms of crowds, Jims and IHOP handle this amount of people routinely, yet the wait for food doesnt seem to take nearly as long. My wife attributed this to the fact that E&I is more of an upscale, Magnolia Pancake Haus sort of set up. So I think what that equates to is, you wont appreciate your vittles if they come too fast. I reckin. My wife ordered up the "Waffle Eggspress", a golden Belgian waffle, two eggs and two strips of bacon. This was pretty good. The bacon was especially tasty (yea, I tried some). My wife would have liked the waffle to be cooked just a tad longer - a little more golden brown if you will, but it was also very good. I thought the Wisconsin Scramble sounded good. It is three eggs scrambled with a quartet of cheeses: Swiss, Monterey jack, cheddar and cream cheese, then topped with green onions. The eggs come with ranch potatoes, toast and sausage. A few notes: First, the scramble was very good. Who would have thought of cream cheese in your eggs? Good stuff. The potatoes had some sort of ranch taste. I think I would have been happier with the "regular" taste. The sausage was excellent just like the bacon. The toast may have been buttered back in the kitchen, but they dont serve any additional butter with it. Enjoy the Smuckers. To do it again, I think I would have opted for biscuits. Overall, the food was all good and in spite of the name, they also serve lunch. The Reuben caught my eye, so Im sure well be going back for another try. If you are just interested in getting a quick breakfast, Im not seeing this as the place to go. But if youve got an hour or so to hang out and wait for your food, be sure to give it a shot.

My family and I went to the Egg and I this morning and we had a wonderful experience! First we were greeted by one of the nicest hostesses Ive come in contact with then we proceeded to have a fresh delicious meal that even my toddler loved. None of that high fructose sugary crap on my Belgian waffles just fresh blueberries and raspberries with some warm syrup. Nothing over the top or super sweet. The eggs were perfect not overly salty where you cant even enjoy the taste of the egg. Dont even get me stated on there version of hash browns; they were simply amazing! Definitely a 5 star restaurant feel for about the same cost as IHOP. They even have a 15%military discount. My family and I will be returning cause we love good service and great food!

Food was not good at all. Our order took forever to come out. I ordered a spinach and bacon omelette but when the order came out I received a bacon, spinach, and mushroom. I hate mushroom. The omelette had very few bacon bits. The bacon bits did not taste like bacon. Restaurant was, however, clean. Waitress was nice. I was very disappointed. I thought I was going to have a good breakfast when I first stepped into the establishment, but I changed my mind when I was seated. I peeked into the back room and all I saw were shelves of processed food. I thought to myself, is my food going to come out of a box? It sure tasted like box food. I gave it 2 stars because of the cleanliness and the waitress was nice. I left the place unhappy.

Food was great. But need to work on the eggs my friends eggs were really runny and when ky came down to find someone we couldnt find anyone. Then the waitress said she knew they were runny um thanks. However waitress never came to check on us for drinks wise we ran out of coffee and water. Then gave us our checks and we sat there for 5 minutes till an another waitress came to check on us and tell us that we pay up front. So disappointed all this time we were wondering what it was like to eat here and now we know it was enough for us to not come back. The two stars is for your food.

1. Some items on the menu are way over priced. They charge $5 for ONE pancake. 2. I saw a bunch of black dots on their back wall near the kitchen and after a few minutes of trying to figure out what I was looking at, I realized they were gnats. An accumulation of gnats. I told the staff and asked to be moved and the manager reacted like it was no big deal. Cleanliness is a huge deal...if thats how they maintain the front I can only imagine how the kitchen and freezers look like.

The food is pretty good, but the hollandaise sauce seems to be pre-mixed or something. Recommend the crabcake benedict. The super-annoying thing about this place, for me, was being constantly asked if the food was ok. I think my waitress and the manager asked me about three times how the food was before I even got a chance to eat it. When I finally told the manager to get lost, he looked absolutely flabbergasted. While this was entertaining, it did detract from the dining experience.

My first time at this place, not happy with the food though the server was great. Ordered the avocado toast and it was almost unpalatable. Toast was thick and doughy, almost wet, so it clearly was not toasted all the way through. Avocado was was no longer ripe, black chunks in it that I picked out but was still sour. Eggs were ordered over easy...got them cold and not cooked all the way. Not to say that the food was beyond consumption, just that it was sad that they didnt care.
