Was in town visiting and I REALLY wanted to like this place. I will always take a local joint over a starbucks, but in this case it was a big mistake. We were there at 8:45 am and after deciding on some delicious sounding fresh juice and a breakfast sandwich we were told neither was available because their kitchen wasnt open yet. If you sell breakfast sandwiches and fresh juice it seems very strange they wouldnt available at 8:45 am. The only breakfast options they had were some bananas and some mediocre looking scones or something. I settled on a chai latte with almond milk and my co-worker a latte; no food because it really didnt look good. When we asked for a large they said they didnt have a large, but then clarified that they did have a large cup that you can pay extra for. Hmmmm . . . this strange description could have been a result of the fact that one of the counter staff was obviously high. That would not have been a problem for me at all had it not been obviously impacting her concentration and the speed at which she was working. She literally appeared to be moving in slow motion. It was painful. The other spent an excessive amount of time chatting with customers who she knew. which again would be fine had she been able to talk and work at the same time, which she was not. When my drink finally arrived it was terrible - luke warm and the tea tasted like it came from a box, not fresh brewed (I didnt watch them make it, so I cant say for sure). I am sad to say that we were forced to go to starbucks for the remainder of our trip because we just couldnt go back to sip. Had it even been mediocre I would have gone back, for the sake of supporting a local business, but the service, lack of breakfast, and poor chai was just too much!

I had the Herbal Salad which was good, if pricy. Not terrible price wise compared to other options in the area. After friends and I had ordered and gotten our food, my 5 year old wanted something. He then patiently waited in line for about 10 minutes and made his order. The staff informed him that it would take 1/2 an hour to get his order because a big order had come in just before him. We asked them if they could just make him the Nutella and Banana croissant (which was literally a toasted croissant spread with Nutella and a slice of banana on it) in the middle of the 1/2 hour order, especially considering there were at least three employees making orders. They refused, and lost our sale. They seem unfriendly and unapologetic. I asked for a salad with roasted red peppers and was told that was fine, then 10 minutes later told they were out of roasted red peppers. When I did get a different salad they brought it with a different salad dressing than advertised. When I asked for the right salad dressing they said they were out of it. When I asked for them to exchange the container of salad dressing they had given me for a different one they did have they acted like it was a big imposition. I probably wont be back.

Bigz Burger Joint and Two Bros BBQ are two great examples of established chefs taking a cuisine that can offer varying levels of quality (depending on where you go), and executing it to near perfection. Im not sure the modern coffee house is in need of the same gourmet assistance, but Andrew Wiessman is here nevertheless to offer his take on it. I ordered a lunch combo of a turkey panini with artichoke-parmesan spread. I dont know what other reviews are taking about with regards to pricing - a sandwich, chips, and tea is $7, cheap enough for me. I ordered this particular sandwich because of the spread, which was one of the more adventurous options on the menu. I suppose thats my main disappointment with Sip - anyone can operate a sandwich press and buy Boars Head lunch meat. The sandwich was very good and grilled to perfection, but I could have received a similarly satisfying meal in myriad other places. I had an espresso on the way out. It was good, too. Sip is an establishment that does everything right, but its playing it safe with regards to the menu.

DELICIOUS food! The Mediterranean (salad) & the Madras (sandwich) are frequently sold out when I stop in for lunch on occasion and for good reason! The juices are fresh, the Parker House rolls filling, and the cookies INSANE. Great for both eating in, starting out the window to the street or taking food to go. Im not a coffee drinker so I cant speak to the coffee (I hear great things), but the food is right on the mark. The staff is great too: helpful, funny, prompt, insanely friendly. Real people, not robots. Comfy (adjustable) bar stools and sink-into-couches. Tables are clean and have plenty of space, should you need to work at a computer. I thought this was going to be a once-in-awhile lunch stop but it has turned into an almost weekly visit. With delicious food and great service, Sip is a no-brainer for working professionals in the DT area or people in town for a visit.

This place is good if its not crowded. Nice vibe and the people are nice...Solidly excellent latte. But we ordered some simple things (latte, drip coffee, avocado toast, and a ham & cheese sandwich). The latte came out fast but everything else took ages. To her credit, the woman behind the counter realized Id been waiting forever after about 25 min, but that was a loooooong time to grab a quick to go bite. Coffee was hot and good, food was ok (I didnt realize the avocado toast had bacon and it wasnt on the menu I saw when it was suggested, so I couldnt eat it. But Ill take the hit on that one because I didnt specifically ask). Would swing by again if it wasnt a full house and I had time to wait, but i might stick with fruit and coffee.

Sip Coffee has the best Hipster Experience™ in downtown San Antonio as you can get a shot of espresso from sassy baristas and glare at the people inside the Starbucks across the street. If youre worried about being too hipster, you can reach the Starbucks WiFi from here. However, there IS WiFi at Sip Coffee. My sandwich was excellent. Im so addicted to caffeine in this point in my life though that I merely consumed my espresso to get back to working. If it is not truly apparent, it is with deepest regret that I must inform you that I am not skilled in the arts of hipsterdom. Youll have to come experience it for yourself.

I judge espresso drinks by the sugar test: if I need to add sugar then the coffee isnt top notch. I ordered a cappuccino and it had a nice rich flavor. My friend got one of the fresh juices which was also tasty (he feels healthier already!) We ordered The Sexy, a simple but delicious egg, avocado, bacon sandwich. The banana Nutella croissant is also worth a try. Everything tasted freshly made from quality ingredients and the vibe was super friendly. I knocked off one star because the barista was really nice but messed up our order twice. Hes probably having an off morning and I will definitely go back again.
