If Whiskey Cake were a church, I would be its most ardent adherent and postulant. Every time we come to Plano, we eat at Whiskey Cake and every time has been nothing short of phenomenal. On our latest trip, we shared the perfectly prepared fried green tomatoes with the remoulade sauce (seriously, my own grandmama from Georgia never fried tomatoes better, the batter is light and crispy hugging the warm tomatoes), my husband had the duck, and I had the last of the daily special - filet mignon with sweet potato, tomatillo, and bacon hash that was without a doubt the best steak Ive ever eaten. Seriously, this steak melted like butter on my tongue, was beautifully pink on the inside, and every bite was better than the last. There are not the adjectives in the English language to adequately describe just how heavenly delicious all of our food was. I also had an agave gimlet which was smooth, sweet, and light while my husband had the Freefall - a bit headier apple drink so good you finally understand why Eve took a bite of the apple in the first place and then shared it with Adam. We finished this with the actual Whiskey Cake for desert topped with the fresh made whipped cream and we both wanted to lick the plate (we did refrain, though, because this is a classy joint). The wait staff is warm, friendly, and attentive. In fact, we love Whiskey Cake so much that we preach the gospel of Whiskey Cake to everyone who tells us they even might be coming to the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. A friend decided to meet a date there but unfortunately spent the evening alone. When we found out, we called Whiskey Cake and paid for her meal over the phone. In addition, the staff there got together and bought her a Whiskey Cake for dessert. Everything Ive ever had at Whiskey Cake is without a doubt the best food Ive ever been privileged to eat. Make the trip, youll be glad you did!

Finally got around to trying Whiskey Cake. Ive heard nothing but glowing reviews about this place, and lets be honest: the restaurant has the same name as their only dessert. This has to be a good sign. So, on a whim, we decided to try it about a week ago. While didnt blow me away, I can say that it did not disappoint. The place was packed when we arrived, which I assume is normal for any Friday evening. We were told the wait for our table was 25 minutes or so, so we grabbed the last two remaining seats at the bar for their highly touted cocktails. They were so busy, and we were somewhat hidden behind a lamp, that it took a while to get service. But, once they noticed us the service really picked up and they took good care of us at the bar. I ordered a sazerac, she ordered a paloma. Both were good, although the sazerac was a little thin or watery. The paloma was very tasty. After only about 20 minutes our table was ready so we settled the bar tab and grabbed a table. The service was good and fast, considering how busy they were. Tried hummus and pitas for an appetizer, got the chicken sandwich and a burger for the entrees. The food was solid, but not earth-shattering. Even though we were stuffed, we just had to try the actual Whiskey Cake. I asked a lot of friends what I should try when I finally went to this place, and everyone said "You have to get the Whiskey Cake." So, I was expecting something absolutely amazing. However, I wasnt blown away. Its a heavy spice cake-type of dessert, with a whiskey sauce over the top. Its good, but not great. Plus, after appetizers and meals, it was a little too much for a dessert. At least for us. Id have no problems ever going back and would recommend the place to others. However, I think we had a case of expectations being unrealistically high from all the buzz.

Got lunch here with my old college roommates and girlfriend one afternoon, and man, am I glad we did. This place is awesome! More and more of these hipster/Austin-esque places are popping up around the Metroplex, and even though its a chain (theres one in San Antonio and OKC, as far as I know), its still really quality food and drink. The wait for the Dallas location is going to about 45 minutes to an hour, and we came on a Monday! I cant imagine what the place would be like if it were a weekend. The good thing is that theyll text you when your table is ready, so you can even swing down to the mall one street down to hang out if youre stuck with a long wait. The food there is excellent! I ordered the half chicken, and it was extremely flavorful and was very tender -- even the white meat, which is traditionally super dry at restaurants. It also had some wilted spinach in the dish, which really soaked up the flavor of their excellent sauce. Spectacular dish. Tempted to get it again when I go back even though I want to try other things. Their signature whiskey cake is also really good too. I wasnt there when my pals ordered it, but it seems like some sort of sponge/bundt cake with a really good caramel sauce. Super yummy. Dig it. For those of you on a New Years diet (good luck at this place, by the way), have no fear, they have a selection of 5 or 6 really salacious looking salads on the menu. My friends all ordered it, and even though I was perfectly happy with my dish, I was slightly jealous that something so healthy could also look so darn good. No regrets though. Oh, and as a bonus -- I think this place serves up local farm ingredients. Dont quote me on that though. It definitely seems like a place that would! Definitely give this place a try! You wont regret it!

This is like one of those places you always see on the food network shows like Restaurant Startup. Lots of trendy decor and the requisite Edison bulbs. It was a very cold night and they decided to seat us directly in front of the door. Since the place was half empty, I asked if we could be moved. So they put us at a table directly to the left of the door. They REALLY wanted me to sit next to the door. I guess I dont need to be comfortable while I eat. Started with the cheese/meat board. It was excellent except for the honeycomb. I dont know how to eat a honeycomb because its like chewing on a wax candle, so I spit it out. The portion sizes were minuscule - a single thin slice of ham, a TEASPOON of mustard, 2 pieces of cheese, one piece of bread cut in half, etc. For $16 it was kind of ridiculous. There was maybe $3 of food on that thing. For the entree, had the short ribs, which came with some kind of mashed-carrot side. The short ribs were excellent but the portion size was extremely small and not really entree sized. The mashed-carrot was too sweet and I didnt eat it. It was $18.50 and I got maybe 6oz of meat. WAYYYYYYYY too small. I added a side of brussels sprouts since the carrot stuff was no good. Brussels sprouts were excellent. I had to order 2 of these because you only got 2 brussels sprouts cut in half. Are you noticing a pattern yet? For desert, had the whiskey cake. Cake was really really good but didnt taste at all like whiskey. Overall most of the food was good. The portion sizes were shockingly small for the price I paid. Service was very good.
