GRUENE RIVER GRILL.......STAY AWAY!!!!!!! We used our debit card a few weeks ago out with friends only to find out that our card number was stolen by the staff and we had 50.00 on Gamestop charges the next day.which were caught by our bank. The couple we were with had 500.00 in charges in Austin retail establishments. My charges were later cancelled by Gamestop since they (THE THIEVES) didnt have my 4 digit pin code. Our friends however werent so lucky, they got hit and had to dispute the charges (500.00) which were later reversed, they called and spoke to the manager, Pete Aguirre. So tonight we went to the restaurant again and ask to discuss this with the manager his name is Pete Aguirre, he will come across at first as a nice guy, poor manager, no leadership skills at all, at the end of the night, he compd my friends meal (same one that got screwed for 500.00) when I confronted him, he said the reason he didnt make it right with me was due to the fact that I didnt call him. Well, my charges were caught by Chase, no need to call. So needless to say, we had a confrontation, I told him he lacked character, we werent looking for a free meal either, he admitted that this has been going on at their restaurant and wanted the servers names from the incident. That admission alone could warrant a civil lawsuit. But excuse me, there is no excuse for my credit card number being stolen by your employees. When we had the confrontation, my wife and I were escorted out of the restaurant. It got very heated by this be Busch League manager and his assistant manager who both came very close to experiencing a good US Navy squaring away had my wife not pulled me away. I was in his face and shouldnt have had to be, I am the customer, all he had to do was make mine right like he did our friends, but he didnt. There are a lot of places to eat in town and to have to worry about your credit card bring ripped off isnt worth it. Stay away from Gruene River Grill unless you want to get screwed and have the hassle of having to get new cards and the hassles at the bank to reverse charges you didnt create. Those punks were lucky! We will be letting the BBB of New Braunfels know as well as the San Antonio News stations, not to mention YELP. Stay away please for your own financial safety!!! Oh and to continue his character, he was called by a colleague to express their concerns and Pete had the audacity to tell them he gave us a discount. Wrong and unethical, I have my receipt to prove it. Pete should be fired, for allowing this to happen and giving it tacit approval. Patricia Frye below is my wife, so we know it happened. How dare you call her out as a liar.

Gruene River Grill is a bit of an odd, eclectic American/Comfort-food establishment (Asian, Tex-Mex, Southern, Cajun, etc. all under one roof). Theres definitely something here for everyone, and for a small-town restaurant, I was surprised that the food was as good as it was. I started with the Mozzarella Sticks, an all-time favorite of mine, because they were handmade. These really didnt disappoint. There were about 8 of them, I believe, thick, well-breaded and seasoned, and fried just-right. They were delicious. I didnt quite have the same experience with my entree, however. Going with the comfort food theme, and knowing Im in a small TX town, I thought the Country Fried Steak would be a good bet. The mash potatoes werent bad, and I like that the green beans were fresh, albeit a bit bland to my tastes (I prefer onions and more garlic with mine), the chicken fried steak was curious. Overall, the steak itself was very tender in all but a few places. The breading was delicious: fried and seasoned well. But the gravy... it just tasted off. I cant quite put my finger on what was wrong, but its almost like the gravy was made earlier in the day and they tried to reconstitute it when my order came but failed. I would say the gravy ruined the entree for me, although I did finish it as I was hungry at the time. Perhaps it was just a fluke that night because as long as I have freshly made gravy with good quality ingredients (whole milk, butter/lard, flour, pepper, salt - no rancid vegetable oils and reduce fat milk), Ill enjoy it. In short, if your around this neck of the woods, it would be worth dropping in to grab a bite to eat. However, if youre not in the general vicinity, I really dont see a reason to go out of your way to eat here as San Antonio has similar cuisine (downtown, Pearl, Alamo/Lincoln Heights, etc.) with better flavors.

Credit card theft. Gruene River Grills staff stole our credit cards info and made charges! We went to dinner with another couple and both paid with credit cards. Both of our cards info was stolen. Our friend had $500 worth of charges made against his card in Austin. We had $50 worth of charges at Gamestop made against our card. On a return visit we brought this up to the manager Pete Aguirre who was very rude and unprofessional. He got confrontational with us and made us leave the restaurant. He admitted they have a problem with their staff stealing customers card information. The restaurant has very poor management to allow this to be happening. Furthermore after reading your response to my review l am even more disgusted. You deny you have a problem there when our credit card info was stolen, the couple who was with us that night credit card info was stolen AND your manager admitted you all are having a problem with it. Your a liar. You are trying to save face and hide the problem. If you truly were sincere, you or your management would have asked for the last 4 digits on our cards and the date we ate there and you would have researched the register tapes and found your staff member who ran the transaction and stole our numbers. But that would require effort AND admitting there is a problem. But you Jason, chose to lie about it and say it never happened. Four of us ate there, we know it happened, 2 banks know it happenend and Pete knows it has been happening. Dont play games with me, man up.

We have been regulars up until last 1-2 years. Thats when we noticed service was minimal (like the people really didnt care). Food quality not as good on last couple of visits but today we decided to try it again. What a mistake. Green beans that used to be slowed cooked with flavors that enhanced the taste was laden with hot peppers and under cooked. Fried artichoke appetizer was a smaller portion with half being just fried batter-no artichoke. Catfish fillet was not a white meaty center but more like an ole tongue of leather shoe, again batter as a filler. My fried catfish was laid on top of the french fries and they were soft and soggy. But what creamed the top was our cream brûlée was delivered straight from the refrigerator without caramelizing the top. Enough. Sent it back and got a new one with caramelized top. Better but a bit too much torching. Picked up the sliced strawberry on top and it tasted like it had been sliced with a knife used to cut onions or was on cutting board where onions were cut. Our server charged our card for another tables meal and gave them out ticket. Hopefully that is all straightened up. But our server told her manager the problems with our food and the manager said she would make a note of it and wanted to know if we wanted to talk to her. Laziness on her part and the chefs prep.
