Food is constantly good, but the service seems to be constantly bad. We keep returning, hoping for a better experience. Our most recent visit started with being seated where it seemed we were "in the kitchen". With multiple empty tables around (some dirty, some clean) the host chose to put us where we looked directly into the food preparation area. As soon as we gave our order for drinks we also ordered Queso as an appetizer. The drinks came, the Queso didnt for a good 15 minutes even though it is evident in a warmer where it can be dipped up at any time. When it did come, we werent given separate small plates to avoid dropping it all over the table. So, I asked for those and they came in another 10 minutes when the Queso was almost cold. My wife & I had decided to share an entrée, she having the soup & I was to have the stuffed, fried pepper with beans & rice. The soup in a bowl was brought out on a plate with the pepper and the beans & rice were brought out in separate bowls. However, no extra plate was provided for the 2nd person to share. It seemed the waitress was very poorly trained, if at all, and no manager ever came around. Since this restaurant opened we have visited them approximately once every 2-3 weeks and these type of issues have mostly been the same with 2 out of 3 wait staff. Ive complained--even received credit for the next visit, cut my tip from 20% to barely 10%; nothing seems the change. Im thinking of telling the host where we want to be seated and then telling the wait person immediately that I will tip 20% and state my conditions.

Pros: the food was good. Not great, but good. The patio was super pleasant in the later evening. The cocktail was VERY good The queso was certainly above average Cons One side serving of rice and beans for the whole table. Nothing says cheap more loud than skimping on beans and rice. My enchiladas were small, litterally taking up less than 1/4 the plate. I never got a refill on my water. The queso we ordered didnt arrive for 15ish minutes. The main entrée almost beat the queso to the table. The amount of chips in the basket was very meager. Almost like you each needed your own basket of chips. The cost of the "grande" borderita was 8ish dollars but it was anything but grande. Seriously 2 large sips and it was half gone, at least it was a superior cocktail. Otherwise I would have sent it back. Overall consensus Im pretty sure I wont be returning. I honestly feel like there are better options available. It was just a bunch of "little" things but overall it adds up to a lackluster restaurant in my opinion.

Disappointed some, as I have eaten at other On the Borders. I was seated, took the waiter a bit to get to me, and I was there after 1pm, not overly busy....ordered the sizzling chicken fajita salad, which was not really sizzling on the cast iron plate, the chicken was not that hot either nor the onions, they were fully cooked just not HOT from the stove. When asked about dressing I said no dressing, however it came with Ranch and it was spilled in the salad...waiter never came back to see is the food was ok or if I needed anything else, I actually got up and got a refill on my water myself...he brought the check and didnt even tell me if I needed to pay him or anything, he just walked away. Those of you who know me, know I tip well, I am a former server....at least he took the order and brought the food, so I did 10%....will go back and try again later

The service was very poor. The girl looked like she was upset to serve us from the start and seemed to storm off as if she was busy (it was not hardly anyone in there). It was Christmas Eve but she should take her job seriously if she expects me to tip her well. However, I did always get refills before needed. Other servers were rude as I tried to walk to the restroom, they would storm past me without saying anything like excuse me or sorry as they brushed up on me. It is a service industry. The food was ok. Not bad, but definitely nothing special. The prices are a bit higher than other flavorful options with better service in town.

Great 1st impression! Excellent staff and food! I havent eaten at On The Border in almost 5 yrs because they didnt have a location in Longview. We are so excited! We came here in the 1st week of business and I can say it was excellent! We ordered an appetizer because it was late and the Stacked Nachos are absolutely awesome! Definitely worth $2.99 to add the fajita steak! The restaurant is open floor plan and well lit. Open until midnight so you can enjoy a late meal! We definitely will be coming back!

I am normally not a chain-restaurant guy. However, the food at On the Border in Longview tasted great! The margaritas were very good and half-priced on the day we went. The server (Aaron) was very friendly, helpful and quick. The only complaint that I have is that they were very light on the cheese as if there was a cheese shortage! I did say something to Aaron and he graciously brought me an extra cup of cheese for my fajitas! (Did I mention that they were delicious?)

Monday, December 26, 2016 630 p.m. had dinner with my wife and friends service was slow. Someone needs to train the staff on the difference between domestic and imported beer. When asked what domestic do they have on tap, the responce i recived was we dont have that kind. I guess thats why me and my wife do not eat here that often. Looks like next time will do Little Mexico. Im sure they have domestic beer.

First time at On the Border in years. The restaurant looks small from the outside but was very roomy. Very short wait at peak dinner time. Service was fast and they had a couple of vegetarian choices that were really tasty. I was shocked how inexpensive it was, after eating at Saltgrass a few days go. Very good experience. We will be back. It is cold but we ate on the patio. The heaters do a great job.
