Myung Dong is a hole-in-the-wall authentic Korean restaurant hidden on Bissonnet in Houston. The owners do not speak too much English so unless you brought a Korean speaking friend, there may be a language barrier if you have any questions. However, do not let that stop you from enjoying the great food here. Prices for most of the food is on the higher end, but that is the case for most Korean restaurants in Houston and at least portion sizes are larger here. Food: If you decide to visit, you must order the Seafood Pancakes ($17 - huge portion feeds 2-4 people), hands down one of the best Korean seafood pancakes in Houston. The Gal-bee ($20), Korean BBQ beef ribs, and Bulgogi are both popular items. Also, the assortment of complimentary side dishes that are provided with the meal look more fresh than most of the competition. I was not a fan of the Yum-So-Jun-Gol (Spicy Goat Hot Pot) or the Doc-Do-Ri-Tang (Spicy Chicken Stew), but there are many other options for soups or hot pot to choose from. Service: Besides the owners, there is another lady serving tables as well as prepping dishes so service may be slow at times. During busy hours, the wait may be insanely long depending on the amount of diners in the restaurant. Large parties of tables in front of you may cause the wait for your food to be at least an hour, but the food is well worth the wait. There are bowls, plates, napkins, silverware, hot tea, and hot&ice water for you to service yourself. CASH OR CHECK ONLY, No Credit Cards!

Spectacular. A bit of history. I think that I first wandered into this Korean restaurant over 25 years ago. No sign to locate it. But I was a serious ethnic food explorer in those days. Its lunch time and the clientele is all Korean. Not much of an English menu so the owners directed me toward a bibimbap which turned out to be delicious. On subsequent visits I just looked at what others were eating and pointed. Always good. My first introduction to Korean food. Over the years other places have opened as the Asian restaurant scene has moved farther out Bellaire and Bissonnet and also to Long Point. But for me, Myung Dong has a special place. I recently met up with 5 of my best male friends for an insane lunch there where we ordered and ordered and the food kept coming. Not a dud in the whole meal. It was just the owner and his wife, taking orders and cooking up a storm in the kitchen. It was like being in the home of the best cook in town. Well, they now have an English menu. But I wish I had taken more notes on what we had. So, I will just post some photos, particularly of the devastation left by us on this most memorable meal. Run. Dont walk to Myung Dong. It is that good.

First off... This is in the hood.. So lock your car. Secondly, this place is cash only; there is, however, a Chase ATM a couple miles into the hood so if you are feeling brave and have a bullet proof vest and really want Korean food, you can get cash there. Now to the food, the portions are decently sized. We order the bugolgi and kalbi and they were both relatively flavorful. The sides werent as great as we had hope but they did give us some variety. Houstons Korea Town isnt as big as NYC, or LA or even Dallas but this is one of the few places you can get decent Korean food. It isnt all-you-can-eat like other places but they get the foods and sides out pretty quick, depending on the time. When we went, there were only 2 older ladies running the tables so even though we got our service quickly, we did notice some tables not getting served as hastily. Also, the barley tea is bomb; considering how hot it is in there, get it ice cold.

HUGE portions in a great authentic mom and pop Korean food in no frills atmosphere! Dont be afraid of the reviews on the sketchy neighborhood nor the boarded up windows; youll be fine for the 1-2 hours you spend here in delicious Korean food heaven. Best for groups of at least 3 so you can try more things family style - portions are too big to get more than 1 dish per person. Group of 4 of us got 3 things and couldnt finish it all: - seafood pancake (yes its $17 but its giNORmous! Yummy fried goodness. - spicy pork bulgogi: loved the spicy level and texture of this! - hotpot w/seafood and veggies: good, but I preferred the others. My friend from Korea loved it, though. Best thing is the INCREDIBLY kind people who work here and the huge portions. Also loved the generous banchan (the free side dish appetizer things) - better than at other Korean places in Chinatown, and the loads of free hot tea.

My first experience here was fantastic. The staff is immensely helpful and always at your service. I recommend you come when it opens for optimal service, and best in parties of 2-4. I did find it weird that bulgogi was on the more expensive all-you-can-eat option based on past kbbq experience, but the menu is large enough that I would let it slide. I would definitely return!

The bitmap is so good, and so easy to customize to your preferences. Its good with tofu or just with veggies, and no matter what, its always a beautiful plate. I prefer the black rice in the bitmap, but it does add to the price just a little- worth it though!!The menu isnt large, but what they offer is really good, visually exciting, and unique.Highly recommend.

It is family style Korean restaurant. No fancy dishes but they make very good pancakes in Houston. We ordered the seafood pancake. It was crunchy outside and full of shrimps and squid. We went there Friday for lunch. During our visit, we are the only customers. They are cash only so prepare enough cash.

This place is a little hidden and seems sketch from the outside but I would stop by if I was in the area. The reason for 3 stars is the service and the workers were very rude. I love the side dishes they bring to the table and refill - probably the best part!

Everything was fabulous; the food, the atmosphere, the service! Cant wait to come back! Make sure you make a reservation since it gets really crowded during dinner time. Meat was fresh and tasted good, and all the sides were yummy!

Im hispanic, but I love Korean food, and this place is basically the Korean equivalent of the "taqueria" atmosphere lol. I usually order bibimbap with tofu instead of beef.
