Keep in mind, being born and raised in my own culture, I tend to be very picky with my Mexican food here in the Texas. In addition, it is very difficult to find authentic Mexican food here in Houston. If you know of any others, please do share! Well, this place just opened up and let me tell you, the food is the most authentic Mexican food I have come across here with the emphasis on the healthy side. Let me tell you why. I had the Enchiladas Suizas and they are just like MOM use to make with a non-greasy, thick, rich green sauce. They went easy on the cheese as dairy is not good for our bodies, but the cheese was to die for. (btw, Mexico is known for its cheeses, not just its tequila) I also had their delicious agua de horchata and their scrumptious guacamole. Everything was made with no excess in salts or sugars. Nothing was greasy as you would find in most other restaurants. Now, I wasnt sure if that day was just a fluke that day, so I went back the next day. Yes, the very next day, I had to find out if I found my new favorite place. This time, I had their Caldo Tlapeño and it was amazing, perhaps needed to be warmer for my taste, but none-the-less, AMAZING! Reordered their guacamole and it was just as escellent as my previous visit. Now, this time, I ordered their agua de Jamaica. OMG! Once again, just the right amount of salt and sugar for everything I ate and drank. The place was astonishingly impeccably clean (decor needs some work, but Im sure that will change as they grow). Now, I was treated with the utmost comfort and respect. Perhaps it was because there were not currently busy at the time, but that was another plus for me. They made me feel like I was in my own home. Rare these days, dont you think? Im certainly found my favorite restaurant and I do hope that their quality with their food and service doesnt diminish as they get more busy. And folks, they will get busy! I already brought my coworker over, so yes, it has started. ^.^ Dont take my word for it, see for yourselves!!!

Just to start off, Luna Y Sol is a new restaurant, and it shows. The waitress is a fresh college grad, and her mom runs the kitchen and presumably the whole restaurant. There are signs that this is the familys first restaurant running experience - the menu shows a charge for chips and salsa (though we got them for free, possible that the restaurant hasnt changed the menu yet), theres no ambient music, the logo of the restaurant makes me think of an optometrist rather than a Mexican restaurant, and when its time to pay your bill, the waitress brings out an iPad to be swiped one by one by everyone at your table. That being said, it is *good food* to be had, and the owners are clearly very passionate about delivering an authentic experience. All of the ingredients are fresh and organic, they choose healthy cooking options (no lard in the refried beans), and use family recipes. You can expect very personalized service here - they love to show off what they are doing. Also, its BYOB, which some people like, some people dont. Luna Y Sol serves good food, the staff are passionate and honest, and the prices are more than fair. For these reasons, I hope the newbie restaurant makes it in the cutthroat Houston food scene. There are definite areas of improvement, especially in terms of ordering to plating time and getting the bill sorted, but expect a good time at the restaurant.

Luna Y Sol Mexican Grill has the tastiest authentic Mexican tacos in Houston, straight up. Its a family-owned restaurant in Midtown (beside Pho Saigon) with old family recipes, and they have incredible service on top of their food and drinks. Their parking lot usually gets filled up, but to the right of the plaza, theres a ramp that will take you upstairs for additional parking. I typically come for their street tacos. They are pretty small, so I would recommend getting at least 3-4 to fill you up. I like that theyre small so you can sample a few different tacos. They are ALL delicious in their own ways. I typically opt for flour tortillas, but they recommended me to try their tacos with the corn tortillas. They were absolutely right! If you typically hate corn tortillas, do yourself a favor and at least try them here. All of their street tacos range between $2.29-$2.99 each. In addition to their tacos, I always get the rice ($1.25) and refried beans ($1.25). Its weird to say, but I get excited about eating the rice here. I dont know what they do to it, but its delicious! Overall, I love Luna Y Sol Mexican Grill, and I consistently come back to this place. They will be opening up a 2nd location in East Downtown by December 2017!

My first visit during their soft opening was less than lack luster - the $13 street tacos were meh - but I vowed to try again because the staff ... undescribable. While not the quickest food turnaround, you know the staff loves these recipes ... its personal for them. So after a solid workout where I totally earned tacos, I decided to swing by and try again. And Im so glad I did. S.O.L.I.D. mexican breakfast yall. This is not a taqueria but you could totally come hung over and not be out of place. Its just more light-filled and restuaranty, than taqueriay. I guess thats why they called is a "grill." What to order? Weekend they have Pozole and Menudo which I saw a few fellow patrons lapping at thir bowls. I got the poblano and queso fresco taco, the barbacao and the mexicana. I would skip the mexicana next time and try the chorizo. Actually, scratch that - I would try the chilequilas because I think that is the true test of a place. OH OH OH -- get the house salsa. And a straw. I swear I could drink it out of a cup it was so delicious.

A nice alternative to fried, fried and fried. Restaurant is very clean and staff is continously busy. Pozole was hot and delicious. A bit salty but very good overall. It wouldve been better with shredded cabbage instead of iceberg lettuce. Personally Im not a fan of multiple taquitos vs 1 or 2 big tacos. Fortunately you can mix and match an order of 3. The picadillo had been sitting around for a bit and was room temp. The pastor was a bit dry and had less flavor than I was expecting. I ordered the pollo mexicana but Im pretty sure i got regular shredded chicken. It was also a bit lacking. The small corn tortillas were very oily. Nothing tasted bad, in fact it was all better than a lot of places Ive eaten at, but for $20 at lunch time I was a bit let down. The limonada was good. Very glad it wasnt from the drink machine. Parking is terrible but expected. Ill try it again sometime but i wont be rushing back.

A little family run "real mex-mex" restaurant, this place is delicious, authentic, laid-back, warm and friendly. The poblano pepper breakfast tacos haunt my dreams, and the sopas and pozole are the best Ive ever has. This is a regular haunt of mine since the very early days of it opening and Ive never had a bad thing to say. Any of the poor reviews on here I just cant believe. Even if the Luna Y Sol team made a mistake (as we all do), I cant help but think if it was raised to them at the time theyd do anything possible to make it better. Do yourself a favor, go here. Cant wait for my next visit!
