HOUSTON - Jasmine Marks said she was trying to enjoy dinner recently with several friends at La Fisherman, located at 1935 Highway 6 South. She said the service was less than stellar; the wait staff was rude, their drinks didnt get refilled and they didnt receive their entire order. When the bill came, Marks said there was a problem. The restaurant added an automatic 17 percent gratuity because their party had more than five people in it, but Marks didnt feel like the staff earned the full tip so she asked to speak to a manager. "We asked her, could the gratuity be removed? Could we give our own tip? She said it was part of their policy and there was nothing she could do about," Marks said. "If youre not satisfied with the service, you shouldnt have to pay gratuity." Quick Clicks Overturned big rig closes Interstate 10... Lost phone leads to 30 years in Texas... Dallas: lot near AAC to be open through... JBLM service for soldier killed in... Girl, 14, allegedly posted Facebook... The gratuity policy was clearly marked on the restaurants menus. But Marks said when they questioned it the workers wouldnt let her or her friends leave; she claims they locked the door and called the police. "She was like, You have an unsettled bill and yall cant leave until you pay it," Marks said. "We paid our bill for what we ate, we paid the bill." Marks said it was only the 17 percent tip they were questioning. "She said, Thats fine. If you dont want to pay the gratuity we have HPD outside," Marks said. "I asked the police officer twice, maybe three times, is it against the law if we dont pay the gratuity and he never gave me a straight answer." The on-duty manager at La Fisherman Restaurant told KPRC Local 2 they usually dont have a problem with people paying their gratuity, it but admitted they have called police for this type of issue before. That action has gotten the attention of Houstons Better Business Bureau who said they are now looking into the complaint. Dan Parson, president of the BBB, recommends customers know the restaurants policies before they sit down for a meal. "Consumers need to understand the policy going in," he said. "I mean every sign walking in the door. What credit cards do you accept, not accept? What are your hours? Seventeen percent gratuity for the six of you? If you dont like it, leave." But his message to restaurant managers is this: "They call it the hospitality business, I know you love food, but you got to love the people who eat the food."

* * * * * I M P O R T A N T * * * * * Please read this review in entirety. I disputed my credit card charge simply by clicking online at Chase. Took all of 1 minute to suspend any possible payment to La Fisherman Doggy Bowl. YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME !!! This is a Second to Martins Review from below !!! The place is lower than pond scum. If given the choice of eating at La Fisherman or having my eyes slowly plucked out by the Taliban, I would choose the latter. The wait staff are like monkeys and with about the same level of sanitation. Our waitress sneezed a snotball on top of two plates of food. There actually was visible nose urine on the sides of the plates. She made no attempt to hide the fact that she was sneezing bougars on our food. We refused the food and said we were leaving after having eaten less than 10% of an appetizer that tasted similar to a salt lick. The bill for all food was immediately presented by the snot blowing waitress as she had it in her pocket. An argument ensued and out came the manager and a heated discussion. I love making a scene at shitholes with arrogant low level dipshits serving as managers. I offered to pay only for the appetizers and he agreed, however when he charged my credit card it was for the full amount. I signed it by PRINTING "REFUSED" on the signature line. The next day the charge appeared on my statement (online) along with an added 18% gratuity. I was appalled and immediately clicked on the DISPUTE button which triggered a suspension of payment. Please do the same if you have been hosed by wandering into this dung heep. They will lose their ability to accept credit cards if enough people stand up for their rights and not let low lifes dip into their wallets. CLICK DISPUTE THE CHARGE NOW !!!!

I went with family and was thoroughly disappointed. They added the 17% to our party of 5 (1of 5 was a small child) but I didnt bother complaining because I knew I would NEVER be back. The food was all frozen, and I dont think they make anything fresh in their kitchen. The floors were dirty, and I never saw anyone sweep the entire time I was there. I actually did see a waitress wiping crumbs onto the ground. I thought she would come back to sweep- YEAH RIGHT! The bathrooms are as bad as advertised, and most of the restaurant has a stale, mildew smell. Yes, they do charge for water and condiments (butter had an extra charge). We didnt bother complaining about the extra $4-$5 we spent on their gratuity ad on, and not-so-complimentary items, but I promised I would write an honest and detailed review of our experience. I could tell that the server knew she was getting her "gratuity added" because she was much more attentive to the other tables. Trust me, I certainly didnt add a cent on top of the 17% (which under normal circumstance I would). There is no reason for anyone to go here, or for this place to remain in business. The food is less than mediocre, the place is dirty, they try to quarter and 50 cent you to death, and they clearly "dont get it." Do yourself a favor, dont bother eating here, unless youre the type that has to gawk at bad car accidents. Then go once just so you can experience for yourself how awful it really is.

WARNING!!!! DO NOT GO HERE! Me and my Wife wanted to get some seafood because it was our 7 year anniversary. She ordered crab and we found it had a rotten claw. When we asked to have it replaced or refunded, they refused because half of it was eaten before we got the the rotten piece. They stated "it is against policy to cook a single piece of crab for customers." I asked for the manager, and when she came out she said the claw is not rotten because they have all their food tested before it enters the restaurant. WHAT?! how do you know this claw was not left out and an irresponsible cook threw it back into the mix? I told them to just smell it and see for themselves and they refused saying "We cannot handle customers food." Not to mention the manager gave me a look like I was some sort of idiot for suggesting she smell the rotten claw. Later that night my wife (who had the crab) got food poisoning and threw up all night and was unable to get out of bed the entire day after even though she did not eat the rotten claw. This is just shockingly unacceptable... I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. As far as I am concerned they robbed me, served rotten food, and treated us with such disrespect!!! I refused to tip after that and the waiter gave us a very disrespectful glare right in front of the manager who didnt say a word to her. I cannot believe this restaurant is being allowed to stay in business!
