Not worth it. Well.... what can i say... wifey and I saw this restaurant recommended (4.1/5) by Google maps. First error. I should have checked Yelp before going there. Anyway... we order a loaded potato and a 2-meat platter. (Ribs and chopped beef with corn and fries).. the potato was bland, it was not hot, the melted cheese was dry... it seems that the potato was sitting on the counter for a while... like 2 hours or so. Move on to the platter... ribs. Nice size but also dry, tasteless, so I decided to dunk it on the available BBQ sauce... uggghh... it was a blend of vinager and some ketchup, also a huge miss. The chopped beef looked like dog food. Even the smell of my dog food is more pleasant than this one, another miss. Fries are the only good thing here, hence the 2 stars. Ah.. and it was even pricier than Rudys or spring Creek. Conclusion: We are not coming back.

My son lives out of state, but when he comes to visit, we always have to make a visit to Hickory Hollow for barbecue - he insists! His wife is a vegetarian, but thats okay because Hickory Hollow has the biggest and freshest baked potatoes in town. My daughter comes along because the ranch salad dressing is fabulous - and she doesnt even like ranch dressing! I like the texture of the salad - a nice mix of greens and vegetables, and cut up small enough to really enjoy with that wonderful salad dressing. The chicken fried steak is Texas size. If you can take the calories, the fried zucchini is really great; luckily, the serving is large enough to share with a friend. Wish they had non-sugar, decaffeinated lemonade or cola. Everybody in the family has their favorites at Hickory Hollow!

This is my 2nd visit here , 1st time I had no clue about where anything was and was treated poorly . Cashiers were more interested in their phone then me as a guest . Finally an old gentlemen came out from the kitchen to help me out . Now today I ordered a loaded potatoes with Sausage. Sausage was cold cheese was cold like just a throw on . Potatoes was hot and Good. Cashier was again on phone and rude as I brought up my ring thing to tell me my food was ready . She says its over there and points , I didnt know , maybe ahe should have asked me when I came in if I knew . And nobody was behind me so there was no riah to inform me . I dont think I will be back. Very disappointed

Food was pretry Food.good. we waere recommended here from a coworker. I got the 2 meat plate with spicy sausage and chopped beef/ Mac and cheese and salad. Hands down some good olRanch dressing. As far as the chopped beef it tasted a bit reheated and had a weird flavor. Hubby had the cfs. It was as big as the plate and it was the ref portion. Kids chicken tenders were very good and sweet tea is delicious ans isnt too sweet. Since we mentioned it aas our 1st time the nice guy behind the counter gave is our drinks and salad free. Overall great small family friendly place to eat. Great service and food came out within 10/15 Min. Defenitly a keeper and will be returning.

The one star is for the chicken fried steak. I thought they were supposed to be known for their delicious chicken fried steak??? I ended up feeding it to my dogs. The worst part was the gravy. What is it made from? Why is it yellow? It must be butter and chicken broth. It was so greasy as if the chicken fried steak isnt already greasy enough. The mashed potatoes were mediocre and again appeared to have that greasy yellow liquid they call gravy on it. The green beans were too salty and the corn appeared to have a sweetener added like sugar. Sweet corn doesnt need sweetening. My mother said, "someones mother did NOT know how to cook".

HH (any of its locations) is one of our old reliable restaurants. Its old-school. If youre looking for self-described "artisan" barbecue, this isnt it. But were not complaining. I usually get some kind of meat sliced over a baked potato. The baked potatoes are great and theyre huge so I can eat them for at least two more meals. You also have to order a salad--yes, at a barbecue place--because they have the best ranch dressing in town. I dont even like ranch dressing, but I always get it here. Its *nothing* like the bottled glop. Add a couple of pickle and jalapeno slices to your salad because theyre especially good with it.

Ive had BBQ all over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and many more. This was the most bland BBQ I have had to date. I tried the brisket, Turkey, and sausage. Brisket was dry and tasteless, ditto for the turkey, and the sausage tasted like it was a very poor quality product with a lot of filler. For sides I had fried okra and pinto beans. The fried okra was okay for the frozen bag type. The beans were fair at best. The staff was friendly enough I guess. Treated you more like an imposing relative than a paying customer. I will not try them again and do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I am always on the look out for amazing bbq. Unfortunately, hickory hollow is not it. #1, really expensive. $14.49 for lunch. All I ordered was the 2 meat lunch plate and a drink. #2, Got the brisket. Really lean and not too bad at all. Also got the sausage. Tasted like giant sliced hot dogs. The sides I got were the driest Cole slaw I have ever seen. Its like they shredded the cabbage and carrots and forgot to dress the rest. Onion rings were on fine. Heavy on the batter, but fine just the same. Not the worst I have had, but sub-par at best.

We have been frequenting this restaurant since it opened in the 1970s. There are a LOT of BBQ joints in the NW Houston/Cypress area and I drive out of my way from Cypress to return to Hickory Hollow. I also introduce newbies to the area at work to the folksy charm and wonderful food for lunch. It is always a hit. Cannot say enough good things about this little "hole in the wall". It is my "go to" for brisket and grilled chicken. The loaded baked potatoes rock and the Chicken-Fried Steak? THE best. Keep up the good work guys. Ill be ba-ack!

We love Hickory Hollow! HH has a huge variety of foods to satisfy our picky eaters....everything from steak, bbq, chicken fingers, burgers, fish, to even a chicken fried hamburger, and dont get me started on the sides!!! The serving sizes are nice and big, too. HH is also perfect for take out, and the employees package up the food carefully to keep it nice and hot. Theyll even package your BBQ for reheating if you need to pick it up for the next day. The kids meals are generous and even include free dessert!

Great value BBQ. Self-seating and serving. Chicken fried steaks are some of the best in town. The gravy is a thicker, yellow type so be aware if you are expecting a more traditional white gravy. Its great on the potatoes. My 10-year old loves the mashed potato bites because they are spicy and I love the grilled zuccini as a healthy choice over starchy mashed potatoes or fried options. I frequent the Fallbrook location but I have visited the Heights and the experience is the same.
