Underwhelming was the word of the day here. It has a lot of potential to be a great Mexican spot but doesnt deliver to its full extent. Prices arent bad: $8 for a torta, $3 for a taco, and $11 for flautas with rice and beans. The flour tortilla for the taco was homemade and very light and airy; the meat was that red marinated fajita you can find at carnicerias and was pretty tasty. The torta had the same fajita, but the flavor was lost in the bun. It was pretty dry and felt like it was missing something even with the guacamole and veggies in it. The flauta plate was the best of the three orders. The flautas themselves were made of chicken, and covered with guacamole sauce and sour cream. They were very crisp and had good flavor. The beans that came with it were very good as well and even helped to heighten the flavor of my poor torta. The rice had a stale crunch that led me to believe they were reserves from a previous dinner service. The waitress was friendly, but the atmosphere of the place left a lot to be desired. There was no music playing to fill the nearly silent room. The decor was pretty run down which was a shame because it reminded me of a patio fiesta. I wanted to really like this place. Nothing here is overtly bad, but it isnt great either. It could be worse, but it could also be a lot better.

Ive been there multiple times but my last experience was the worse. I was hungry, it was late and I just left work. Went there for a quick take out meal and instead I had to wait for a server for 10min and then wait another 10 to 15min..for a sandwich to go? I dont mind to wait 10minutes for my food, but what was more insulting was that I had to see the same server that told me he "will be with me in a minute" serve a table that arrived 5 minutes after me, right in my face, before taking my order. Did he think they were going to give him a better tip? Im sure their experience was good, but Im the one writing a review about your business based on the poor judgement of your servers. And yet I tipped. Just gonna say, a 20 to 25min wait for a sandwich its unacceptable at any level. Then I got home and saw my food...No comments. If your business model consist only on being the only one serving Mexican food late night around there, without caring about good service and quality and respect for your customers, then soon somebody is going to see the gap youre leaving open for a very good business. This city change very fast and bad business dont last. Buena suerte.

You know a place is el authentic Houston Tex-Mex when there is a dedication autographed by ZZ Top hanging on the wall. This place is a Montrose stalwart, its places like this that made and still make it a great place to live. If you say this place looks dumpy, then youre either a) from the Woodlands b) here from out of state or c) stuck up and wouldnt have a clue where to get good Tex-Mex and should walk a few blocks to El Real. Do that because youd be the one that puts dumb stuff on the jukebox and ruin my chips and salsa binging. HEY! This place is excellent! Breakfast is excellent. Lunch is excellent (get the mole if theyre making it that day!). 2am drunk cheese enchiladas is excellent. I am annoyed that they did change the drink menu recently and removed the chupacabra and skylab, qué lástima! Happy national margarita day everybody!

I bought $40 worth of food to bring to my grandma in Katy, because she has a hurt leg and wont be able to stand up and cook for herself for a while. They forgot HALF MY ORDER. Seriously. I didnt notice until I was already in Katy. I even tipped them on my way out! I wish I hadnt now. After I called to find out what happened, they didnt offer any solutions except having me drive back from Katy to get the other half of my order. I mean, seriously? I guess I could drive all the way back to get the cold food I already bought. I told them that wouldnt work, and they took down my number and said the owner would call me with a solution. That was hours ago, and nobody has bothered to call me back yet. Moral of the story: dont order anything to go here unless you like getting screwed. They wont do anything to resolve the situation.

Food was good at best. I had the enchiladas verdes with rice and refried beans. The food seemed to have been sitting there for a while and the plate was warmed up when I placed my order. The rice and enchiladas tasted stale, and the beans were bland. Lastly, if you enjoy runny red salsa with your chips then this is the place for you. Take this post with a grain of salt as I do not know if the plate I ordered had been pre-prepared or not, but the food was not good. Their service is a 3/5, not the most attentive waitresses but they were friendly. This was my second time coming here, and will not be returning. Youre better off going to Ruchis or Arandas. They offer better options, chips and salsa no matter what you order, and are less expensive than this place.

This is the best Mexican food in the United States. I have been to all "the best" mexican food restaurants in every state except Hawaii. I reside in the Sonoran Desert southwest states and I have been going to Chapultepec Lupita since 1993. I am going back to Texas this summer 2009 and although it is roughly 200 miles out of my way I will be going back again. Absolutely the best Chile con Queso and Pico de Gallo that you will have anywhere. I do not understand the rewiews stating that the food was bland since you can add salsa to your dish. I have never had bad service or unfriendly staff members... then again it has been a rare occasion in my own life that I could not turn a frown into a smile. The hours of the restaurant say it all 24/7 - 365!

You get what you pay for...in this case its slow service and great food served in large portions. Its not a "foody" type of place - all the menu items are standard Tex-Mex fare, albeit with great flavor. The salsa is hot (spicy) and has a great smoky flavor. I have yet to order anything that I did not absolutely love. They have a surprisingly long list of margaritas, with varying types of tequila and mixers - all are outstanding. The building seems like its going to fall down at any moment - a true hole-in-wall. My favorite place to get Tex-Mex in Houston (Ninfas has a better building and ambience, but Chapultepecs food is better). Go here if youre hungry, in a chill mood, and looking for something low-key.

It is a total hole in the wall, and I love that about it. Its a weird, cozy place. The food was alright, but just alright. I had some overcooked chicken fajita tacos that were mistakenly advertised as quesadillas in the menu. I ordered a weird mixed drink called El Matador that was like a swirled layer of margarita on top of blue curacao with a straw in it. You were basically drinking blue curacao straight until you got to the margarita. The waitstaff was absent and inattentive, which was the only reason we were there as long as we were. 3 stars is pretty forgiving IMHO, and this place should be listed as $$ instead of $. There are better places in the area with worse ambiance.
