We found this place promising as my wife loves Hibachi, especially when it comes to steak and teriyaki chicken. We wanted to give this place 5 stars, but they dropped a star for the awful smell combined with being right next door to a veterinary clinic (same building, same air condition). The service was great, the waitress kept our drinks filled and the chef was amusing, as they always are. However, the chicken made my wife squirm as she ate it, feeling it was undercooked. I was busy chowing down my Alaska crab sushi, and I passed it off as her being cautious about getting sick on her birthday. However, I can confirm, the chicken was not fully cooked. Its a couple days later now, and we havent gotten extremely sick but we did have some rumbly guts later in the evening. All in all, we wont be visiting Yamatos again.

Sushi (nigiri) is decent. I had all the usual favourites: salmom, king salmon, uni, hamachi, o-toro, ikura. The fish was fine that day, but I advise against o-toro here. They did not handle it properly. The rice is not made properly, for those who know sushi, this is the most important part. Nor do they know how to properly make nigiri (grip) the rice as it will fall apart as you pick it up. I cannot complain too much though, as this is not unusual in texas. I cant attest to anything else on the menu.

Yes, its next to a vet hospital. Yes, its not in a brand new building. But for the price, service and excellence of food, you can find no better, especially in this type of experience. The service is ALWAYS warm and friendly, the food excellent and we leave every time always - always - happy. Weve been coming here during our family (12+) vacation every year and its always a highlight for us. Great for dinner, special occasions - it is a must-eat stop if youre in Galveston.

The ambiance is a little strange. The building seems old, out dated and cramped but youll still have to pay fine dining prices. When I told them I was vegan they did offer to cook my vegetables in the back away from the meat and other things which would be cooked in butter but I opped to get a seaweed salad instead. Then it came out with an imitating crab stick on it, which is made from fish, so you know, not vegan.

Me and my husband went there today for the first time. The guy who serverd us, i think his name is Mr. Lo, was amazing. He made a sushi on my request which was not even on the menu and paid extra attention to details of the receipe. he and his staff was incredibly nice and provided excellent food and customer service. The noodles was one of the best we have ever had. I would highly recommend this place.

This is our place for sushi in Galveston. Though we cant go every week due to the prices, its well worth it for a date night. You can sit at the bar and chat with the guys making sushi, or go to a table with your friends and get entertained by flying food and flames on the grill. To add, the workers are great, always happy to see you and make your dining experence great.

I have been to a lot of restaurants in the Galveston area when i go down to the beach but none have been up to par. When i went to Yamato, the people were extremely nice and the chefs were very entertaining. My food was as good as the environment that i was in. I am going to go to Yamato every time I go down to Galveston. It is truly a gem in the area.

I read the reviews and was a little skeptic about the location being next to a vet office, but this was a great find. The restaurant is clean, service was prompt, and the food was well above your average sushi restaurant. We came down from Austin for vacation and ended up loving this place. We will continue to come back when ever we are in the area.

We went here not knowing anything about it. After our day at Schlitterbahn we went here based on reviews from the foursquare app. The food here is amazing. I got the filet mignon and shrimp with fried rice an sushi, so good! Their hibachi show is also good. They have hibachi and the sushi bar. I highly recommend.

Good if you go for the Teppanyaki experience but sushi was bland. Just a few vegetarian options. Wakame salad has crab meat on it and miso soup is fish based. Avocado and asparagus sushi available. There is a vegetarian Teppanyaki but I would not pay 18$ for vegetables and rice

Вкусные и не дорогие суши. Готовят еду прям на столе на глазах у посетителей. Повар вытворяет удивительные вещи.

Food is great the fried rice was a little Bland but everything else was awesome. The only thing that I wasnt too big on was its small, there are several places to seat but once thats full you have to sit at the hibachi and during lunch hours they dont cook there.

I came here and am in no way impressed. I asked for the teriyaki chicken, and stated that I would pay more if they would make it with yaki soba noodles instead of rice. She told me no, and that I had to have rice. I will not be back, and I am refusing to tip.

The sushi was great and reasonably priced. A lot of reviews mention the location, but it really didnt take away from the quality of the restaurant. It is nice to know its next to a vet when you visit the first time so you can actually find the location.

Food was ok not as flavorful as sky bar. The Hibachi chef was awesome and full of great personality . Our waitress not so much. Probably wont be back because i could get something better for the same price with awesome drinks at sky bar.

Save your money and keep moving.Service is fake and fair. They did not seem genuine in their treatment. Food was way over priced and portions were small in comparison to other establishments in the area. The best thing was the Sake!

I didnt care for their miso soup or edamame (which are usually tell tell signs for me) but I have to admit I really enjoyed the Sushi. I had the Shaggy Dog and it was excellent. Id only recommend the Sushi so far though.
