I dont write very many reviews at all, Im hoping the owners read this as I think their restaurant is good and close to being great. The decor is perfect, not too much or too little and its just simple. The food is more than good, sometimes there may be a change from consistency but what place doesnt. You can tell their food is fresh and made either in house and contracted out (i.e - the hamburger buns are amazing), even their ranch is great homemade ranch. A couple things I wished were different. I wished there was some change in the menu from time to time, maybe seasonal, I come maybe twice a month for the past year/year and a half and its the same stuff. I would like to see more seasonal specials if the menu is the same. I wish they didnt get rid of their lunch menu. Lunch prices would make it a great option during the work week. Lastly, the prices on certain things are just too high. When comparing the prices to other popular spots that are always packed, i.e - Whiskey Cake, Bread Winners, Ida Clair, Ice House Outpost etc. Barn light is always a couple bucks more. Fried Green tomatoes at Barn light, 8 bucks, at Whiskey Cake 6. Chips and Queso at barn light 8 bucks, ice house outpost 8 bucks but ice house serves them loaded with brisket. Biscuits and Gravy at Ida Clair is 5 bucks, Barn light 7. Salad portions need to be bigger for the money 1 fried chicken breast, 15 bucks :/ Finally the dessert and drink prices. Creme Brulee is 8 bucks, literally you can make 50 creme brulees for 8 dollars in ingredients. I mean its just egg, sugar and cream. If they were $2.50 they place would sell literally 10 times the volume and make more money and people would leave like they got a treat. Same story with a slice of Key lime pie and warm cookies for 7 bucks each. Maybe I would pay that from a well known restaurant in a great location, especially one that Im visiting from out of town. Drink prices are the same, 10 dollar cocktails and its not a place you would think of to meet someone for a drink. Its a food primary restaurant. My girlfriend is a corporate Chef and we eat out when cooking at home isnt convenient and we always are talking about how close Barn light is to being amazing.

Im gonna rate Barnlight with just three stars and here is why. Ive been here three times, each time the food has been just okay for the price. For the record, Im okay and am accustomed to paying a bit more for quality food and service. This place is overpriced for what you get in both areas. My familys most recent and last visit was today. I ordered a BLT and tomato soup. The soup was a flavorless boat and the sad BLT was actually two pieces of white bread smeared with boursin, blackened tomatos, frise and two sad pieces of bacon. When the waitress came to ask if the food was good I said "Its okay, I just wish there was more bacon on my Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato sandwich. She said okay, went to the kitchen, came back and said "The owner says Im gonna have to charge you $1.25 for more bacon". No thanks, we just wont ever come back. We live right down the street, we eat out more than we should, and probably spend more than most dining out. But Barnlight just lost our business for good, over a few slices of bacon that probably cost about $0.10.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner. We were seated promptly and got our food orders in fairly quickly. After sitting for 20 minutes we started to get a little restless but it was busy so we understood. We decided to order drinks to hold us over but every time we saw our waiter hed make eye contact with me but averted his eyes immediately. So now it has been 35 minutes and our food finally arrives. My boyfriend ordered the salmon specifically medium rare and I got the Mahi Mahi. The salmon was well done and my Mahi Mahi was completely overcooked, dry and inedible. We were able to flag down our waiter (shockingly quick) to let him know. He made up a bunch of excuses always falling back on "Were really backed up right now, theyre very busy in the kitchen". Even though the problem was both dishes were cooked for far too long. They needed less time, not more. The waiter apologized and asked if he could get us anything else. We politely declined and left. I will never be going here again.

I brought my daughter and mother here after a session of swimming lessons for my daughter next door to here. We walked in and they had just opened for the day, so we sat down. The first thing to comment on was how small the table/booth was. It just seemed cramped. This thought was quickly deterred by the neat characteristics of the restaurant: The mason Jar lights, detailed antique canvas pictures on the wall, and we noticed how clean the floors were (yes, they just opened, I know). We werent super hungry so my mom and I split the Southwestern Salad (added chicken for an extra $4) and my daughter got a kids cheeseburger with fruit. The food was a bit pricey, but such is the area, and it was delicious. We very much enjoyed the salad, but thought it should have been a $10 salad, not $15 salad. Our waitress was very pleasant. We would definitely go back. My daughter went to the bathroom before we left and were very impressed with the character and detail of the bathroom- again very clean.

We came in on a Sunday at 1115AM. Only 2 groups were ahead of us, it took the restaurant over 45 minutes to seat us (they had scratched our name off the list without ever calling our name - some of us were hanging out right by the check-in the whole time). We ordered drinks twice while waiting before being actually seated. After being seated, we kept on waiting around, and it was around 1:15PM by the time we got our food. The food was good quality and tasted fresh - although one person in the group got meatloaf, and it wasnt hot enough. For the small size of the appetizers, they were too expensive. We got 3 small crab cakes to share between 6 people for $15 - that was disappointing. We were less than impressed. If the service was faster, we wouldve really enjoyed the place because the food overall was good. But we spent over 2 hours waiting before we got seated/our food came in.

This place is just different. I mean that in a very complimentary fashion, the food is terrific, but, if you stroll in, look over the menu and just order an old favorite, odds are youre going to be surprised. With starters like black-eyed peas hummus and biscuits and gravy, you have to realize theres a fairly broad spectrum of food styles at play here. That said, its definitely a southern style eatery, but with a gourmet edge. Last time I was in, I decided to get the catfish. Honestly, it was a mood pick. I was not overly enthralled by avacado-orange relish on my southern fried catfish, but I should have been. It was delicious. There are stock desserts, but also a blackboard with changing offerings.

What a wonderful surprise. Wanted to find somewhere new to go and got lucky. We started out with the fried green tomatoes and we were not disappointed. Pretty presentation. For entrees we got the pot roast ( super tender and huge portion) and my husband got the grilled pork chop with jalapeno-apricot glaze. He ordered a biscuit with the chop and oh so good! Both entrees were delicious. Dont skip dessert..we had warm cookies and cold milk. We will be back so many entrees I want to try like the meatloaf or Fried chicken breast. I have heard the pork sandwich is really good too.
