I was very sad when the previous owners (whom I lovingly addressed as Uncle and Auntie) moved back to Singapore. I was also very worried because I am from Singapore and really needed my favorite local dishes. Well, Im happy to say that the new owners are doing a great job of keeping Lion City alive and well. The premises are rather spartan but dont let the simple facade fool you. The food is excellent and the owners are nice and accommodating. My favorite take away dishes are the chicken rice (very flavorful); spicy mee goreng (fried yellow noodles); chicken wings; fried kueh tiao (flat rice noodles cooked with eggs and shrimp); chicken curry (generous portions of chicken and potato); fish ball noodle soup; and I could go on. Plus point: The food keeps well and be reheated over two-three days if needed without losing its flavor. The point is that if you would like to try Singapore/Malaysian food, you cant go wrong with Lion City - the food is amazing!

This is the best Malaysian cuisine I ever had in Texas. My family and I have been here for a long time, even though they had now switch owners, the food is still amazing. My son LOVES the chicken rice there (so do we). If you are not sure, its a bit different from regular steam white rice as the chicken rice is cooked with the chicken and a bit more oily. Thats why it taste amazing. I love the Malaysian noodles, its very similar to spaghetti, but I guess you can say this is kind of like Malaysian-hetti in a way. The curry puffs are great also, but I might get too full just having one. Their chicken wings are also superb. Theres not a dish that I do not like. My wife, even though she doesnt like stuff too spicy, loves their curry chicken and her favorite is the Samba Fish, which is quite expensive.

Extremely Spartan place looking like a company canteen reminds you of typical neighborhood kopitiam (coffee shops) in Malaysia. I passed this place many times not noticing since it didnt look appetizing. We finally decided to try after a sudden change of plans upon recommendation from the proprietor of their competitor at Coit Rd! Like its decor, the food is unpretentious just like the hole in the wall hawker places back in Malaysia/Singapore. And that is a compliment! Comfort food with big portions. Mostly Straits Chinese style. Hainanese Chicken rice was good as well as the kangkung belacan (stir fried water spinach with dried shrimp paste). Also bought excellent classic pandan chiffon cake. Wow! Will return to try more! Really authentic dont judge book by cover place!

Well...... I tried the shrimp fried rice a couple of weeks ago and was blown out of the water by the flavor of it, I almost went back for dinner! Its almost a 30min drive from my home and 35-40 from my job. But today I wanted it so decided to sacrifice a little extra time from lunch to go get it. Grabbed it to go and once I took a bite I was VERY disappointed! It didnt even taste like the same place! It was so bland that the only thing that had flavor was the eggs, seemed as if the cook may have been having a bad day cause it seemed like they just took steamed rice and added the rest of the ingredients of fried rice. Needless to say that was the last time for me...... too far of a drive for a coin toss meal....

Husband and I wanted to break out of the Chinese Buffet rut and try something more authentic. We were not disappointed. True, the ambiance is very bare-bones and beverage selection consisted of water or canned soft drinks, but the food was fantastic! The portions are large enough for two to share. We tried the curry puffs which were awesome, chicken curry (yum!) and Mee Goreng (fried rice noodle) Chicken (a kid pleaser). This place is cash only and in many ways self-service. Bring your own chopsticks if you want them, but all of the regulars were using forks and spoons.

Although the service and decor is nothing to speak about, their food is magnitudes better than any other place you can imagine. This is truly a hole in the wall. Expect to serve your own water/tea. You can grab your own curry puffs. This place is literally a mom and pop... the wife cooks and the husband runs the tables. You dont have to tip since you arent being serviced. For the price, the food is A+. I have been here multiple times and expect to come back more. My favorites are the curry puffs and Haianese chicken rice.

Great authentic Malaysian food with huge portions. Char Kueh Tiaow was cooked perfectly with a massive portions that could feed several grown men. Hainanese chicken rice had authentic chicken rice with super mosit and tender chicken. Sauce can vary in quality but good overall. Sambal kang kung was very flavorful and crunchy, goes well with white rice. Sambal sauce is an excellent addition to any of the dishes. New owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend if in the Dallas/Plano area.

If youve ever been in Singapore and had lunch at a hawker stall, this will bring back the memory. Lion City is a little more "restaurant" than that, but not much. I go there regularly to get curry puffs, which are precisely as they are in Singapore. Havent tried the main meals yet, but know friends who have and who rave about them. They are served family style, with larger portions, so dont think you need one dish per person....

This is by far my favorite Asian restaurant in DFW area. The sambal fried rich is my all time favorite. I am originally from Indonesia so I can taste whether a food is authentic or not. You definitely wont get a five star service, but for the food and price, I certainly wouldt mind to give them the highest rating. If you havent tried this place out yet, please do so.

Been a regular customer to this place for quite a few years. Love the food here. The original owners sold this business to another family with similar values and tastes so the food quality from the new owners are just as good or better. The Hainan chicken and Gali chicken are my favorites as well as the chicken wings and curry puffs.

Ive eaten both breakfast and lunch at this neighborhood diner, have always been pleased by the food and service. Friendly staff always willing to get what you need. I dont remember the full menu, but I remember being surprised by how many options there were given it is a casual diner. Food comes out hot and portion sizes are generous.

Cash-only. Service and decor are non-existent. The food, however, is absolutely delicious, and very inexpensive. You should plan to eat family-style, because the orders come out one-at-a-time, with considerable space in between. I went with 3 other people, and the last persons order didnt arrive for a good 45 minutes or so.

The food was good, but we had to order 3 times because they didnt have many of the things on the menu. We were never offered drinks or even water. 85% of the vacant tables still were littered with dirty dishes. Also, they take only cash. This place could have been a really great hole in the wall, but it is not there yet.

Love this place for Indonesian food, best Indonesian food in the US and definetly love coming here! Its in a great location right off the 10 & 405. They have desserts and yummy drinks too and a market for shopping for local ingredients to make authentic Lion City Chinese Cafe and Indonesian style food!
