Ascended! For a few years, Ascension Coffee has been one of my favorite haunts and great place to post up for a relaxed atmosphere and a solid Cup of Joe. Their newest installment, at the Thanksgiving Tower in downtown Dallas, recently had a soft opening and has already become my go-to spot for a caffeine infusion and truly exceptional fare for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I mention all three, because they offer enticing options at all three times of the day. Im compelled to take a moment and highlight breakfast, because it was a superlative start to our weekend. The Smoked Salmon Hash I had for breakfast was sublime. The salmon and chorizo flavors blend flawlessly; one giving the other ample time to seduce your taste buds with each bite. Feelings of euphoria come to mind as I witnessed the half-bowed, eyes closed, "shaking" motion of my dates head when she bit into her Ricotta Pancakes. One sip of her Chai Latte sent her expeditiously back to that special place, just as quickly as shed returned to the present. As a Downtown Dallas resident, I cant wait to see how "my" burgeoning location develops under the direction of Cloe and John who manage the place. I had the pleasure of meeting both and theyre superb choices to lead a colorful/unique staff, who seems to have a knack for navigating the delicate balance between hovering and great customer service!

Great coffee, atmosphere, with knowledgeable helpful staff. Pros: Coffee choices, great service, ambiance Cons: Price, Loud during busy hours When I learned about drip over coffee in 2012, I search Dallas for a place that would "live up to" my new obsession and I stopped looking when I found Ascension. First off, I have been working on becoming my own personal barista, and its (not surprisingly) very hard and requires a lot of practice. My first time into Ascension, I started asking questions and everyone was very helpful with advice and tips without trying to sell me the products on their shelves. You can sit at a table or at the bar, and I prefer the bar so I can watch the barista (taking mental notes) perform the drip process. The coffee is very good and they always have new flavors on the menu to try and experience. Their prices are high, but the quality makes it justified. Its also very popular and I have struggled to work there (take conference calls) when it becomes loud and busy. Ascension is also a roaster, so not only do they get great beans direct from farmers, they also roast the beans. I usually get a cup of coffee and a bag of beans every time I go. I always recommend and will be back when I run out of beans at home

This cute little place nestled in the design district on Oak Lawn has got to be one of my favorite if not my favorite coffee house. Granted, Im more of a "soy latte" kinda guy, but they have great brewed coffee as well! I think the environment is a large contributing factor here. The look of the place just has a nice cozy feel to it. Very relaxing and perfect for that early morning the day after youve been drinking all night.... which is why I happened to be there. Im pretty sure I stumbled in the door and the guys working thought I was homeless. But whatever. So I ended up with the lavender latte, which was one of the best lavender flavor drinks Ive had since the last time the cooler weather was around! It wasnt overbearing and still allowed the aroma and flavor of the espresso to shine through. Wasnt syrupy or sweet... it was perfect. And the entire cup was consistently so. These guys really know what theyre doing. If you want a great cup of coffee, or just want a place to relax and get your morning started off right, Id say check this place out.

Pioneering "slow bar" brewing in the Dallas area, Mike and his crew of coffee nerds at Ascension make a seriously good cup of joe. Ask and be impressed (I was!) at how knowledgeable and accommodating the staff is here. Prices are reasonable for a cafe of this caliber; the brew here is worth every penny. Alongside the fabulous slow bar, they offer all your usual espresso drinks, full meals, small plates; even wine and beer! The atmosphere is comfortable. Lots of seating, chalkboards, and woodgrain. The clientele is everyone. Depending on the time of day, one finds couples out for a meal, businessmen meeting over an afternoon espresso and students curled up in the comfy chairs with a book and a mug of hot coffee. Ascension is clean, comfortable, accommodating, and VERY serious about coffee.

Not the casual, low-key coffee spot I was expecting/hoping for, but thats ok. Its table service , you dont order at the counter like I expected. Theres valet parking and the crowd has a very uptown vibe, so its not exactly laid back here. I was hoping for a casual cafe I could get some work done, but it was definitely busier than I expected, lots of people meeting up for lunch, and pretty loud. I showed up in yoga pants and workout gear, no makeup, and felt underdressed, a little out of place. That being said, the food was decent and the lattes were good, as is the presentation, so I cant complain. Service was attentive. Good casual spot for lunch w/ a friend, but not exactly the work cafe I was looking for - guess Ill just have to keep looking!

Looking for a hipster coffee house in Dallas. This is it. Not really my first choice for a place to have a late breakfast (which we didnt get because 11:30a was the cut off time). Anyway I digress. Since breakfast was over and there were no exceptions to that, I ended up ordering a Chicken Manchego Panini with house made potato chips. After a long wait the food finally arrived and. Basically the breakdown was roasted chicken, Manchego cheese and apple pressed in the Panini. The sandwich was decent and to were the house chips. While my meal went off without a hitch, however one of my friends had some problems with his, but Ill let him tell his story in his own review.

Ascension is a really interesting coffee shop in that they wait on you at your table instead of you going to a bar to order and pick up your drinks. Perhaps this is because they also have a number of food items from which to select. As far as the coffee itself, this is certainly one of the best shops in greater Dallas. As a hard-core coffee geek I can say that this is a place I would bring my friends and family. I also like that they have a lot of other options for those who are not into coffee such as beer, wine, and tea. Having the extra options makes this a destination for a mixed group.

We have found a quaint little coffee house that serves delicious meals, wines, coffees, and has live music. Sometimes the service is very slow. We have requested that we be notified when the kitchen is about to close so we can have an opportunity to order dessert, yet on our many visits that has never happened. Our favorite musician is Jordan Jones on the Cello. Her music is magical and we have followed her all over Dallas to hear her play. We have become friends with Jordan and her band mates and find them all to be very educated and highly professional.
