I would normally give this place 5 stars. My friends and I go often, and weve always had great experiences. The food is great, and the drinks are good! My friend and I went yesterday, ate, and had a drink. We asked our waitress for some water after she said shed bring us some. We knew the place was busy so we let it go. We asked her a total of four times, and she said the bus boy should have brought it but theyre not always "reliable". We said it was fine, she said itd be right out. We did get our water, and she came back later to check on us and proceeded to say in a condescending tone, "I just wanted to make sure the little Mexican brought you the water". My friend and I were dumbfounded, but didnt say anything to her. Not sure if she missed the fact that we were BOTH Mexican, or if she literally just said it to say it? We were both quite offended, because it just makes you wonder how they do treat the "little Mexicans" in the kitchen. Everybody deserves respect, we are all people. We proceeded to leave her a thoughtful note and a decent tip, and then find her manager. In no way was it okay, or was her joke funny, because her manager says she says things to get a laugh. Maybe we were offended because it was a direct offense to our culture/heritage/ethnicity, and maybe it would have been funny to a different table, but it shouldnt be funny or considered a joke. Besides that incident, we love BFP, but itll make us think twice next time we go there, or at least make sure that EJ isnt our waitress!

One of the best pubs with authentic fish & chips. The Ruben, fish tacos, and pistachio chicken- is god like! They also have a few vegetarian dishes! One of my favourites, The cheese board. It is an excellent choice as an appetizer, or after dinner desservir. The staff is friendly and attentive. You can enjoy the front patio with great views of the city and people watch on McKinney. Or go inside, find a dimly lit, intimate hand wood carved booth (gothic decor). The real deal, old world decor- carved ceiling and prayer panels. The drink menu is unreal. Im not a beer drinker, but the hubby was over joyed with the mammoth selection of draughts, ciders, and bottles. Imports from Belgium, Germany, and a few other notables.. The prices are great, the kitchen is open until 1am, and I am getting hungry typing this. Date night boredom, or a break from suburbia Chilis, GO NOW, hurry! Black Friar Pub.

What to say about the Black Friar? Its the essence of what I think a Pub should be... and trust me.. a lot of places get it wrong. The decor is dark and woody, the atmosphere is laid back, chill people and SUPER cool bartenders. Only downside is that the balcony is small. [On that note, they are currently working on building a second level, so the balcony being small is a temporary issue]. I felt like I was at a frat house, but without the broken windows, chair on the lawn, and people jumping off the roof. It was a chill night, and well definitely be back soon! The bartenders were making some great drinks... started off with my fav. pinnacle whip and orange juice with a splash of sprite. Havent had it? Theres no name yet (I dont think), but it tastes like a dreamsicle.... mmmmm.... Ok, so well definitely be back here again. But if youre in the neighborhood, stop in for a drink!

Really Awesome spot to grab a beer and some grub! Was in town for a few days on some R&R and had this place recommended to me by a friend. Not only did they have a great selection of beers!, including some local(Durango, CO) favorites of mine being from there...but the food is better than most youll get from a pub...The Bar/wait staff were also over the top in how nice and fun they could be towards a guy just showing up blind looking for a good beer and some decent conversation. I would def. recommend this place to all! If you up to it ask for one of there infamous "Siracha" shots!!!???

I have been to this establishment several times, in an effort to give it a fair shot. I like the food and really enjoy the environment. But every time I have been in, the staff has ranges from dismissive and neglectful to downright rude - particularly the bartenders. My latest visit convinced me it is a pattern in poor hiring, lack of training and/or apathy toward customer service. As someone in a service industry family , I seriously disagree with punishing everyone for the sins of a few, but I refuse to reward experiences such as each of mine at Blackfriar.

The bartender was great upstairs, and the food was great... but the waitress was HORRIBLE!!! she was more interested in flirting with two guys at the bar than doing her job and taking care of her table. She blew off taking my order 3 times, and only after 3 of my friends at the other side of the table flagged her over was I able to get service. The place wasnt even busy so there was no excuse for her lack of attention to who had been served at the table.

Bad service, the waitress was more interested in taking shots at the bar than serving drinks that were ordered. We had to go get our own drinks at the bar just to find the waitress taking shots at the bar Then she asked us to pay our tab because "she was about to go home". Since we didnt pay the tip at that moment, we didnt receive service the other couple of hours we were there, we had to go to the bar and order our drinks ourselves.

Blackfriar checks all the boxes for me, and for a group with lots of different tastes. We had some very well though out appetizers, and enjoyed a decent selection of craft beers, wines, and spirits. Our group was 6 different people from different parts of the country, and everyone found something to eat and drink they they enjoyed. Ive been back multiple times and always recommend it as a solid option in this part of town.

I dont venture into Uptown often, but I took a ride on the M-line and decided to have a a snack and a cocktail. My fish tacos were great; Ill be having fish and chips on my next visit for sure! Unless I try some barbecue next Saturday- seems theyre working up some live music, beer and barbecue afternoons. My partying days are behind me, but this is a patio I could hang out on. Service was outstanding!

Came here looking for a particular beer which they had unfortunately just run out of. Bartender was very apologetic and proactively gave me several other beers to sample.. Very nice locals bar which was evident with the happy crowd and apparent regulars.. I am from out of state... I will return if given the opportunity. They fried cheese is not to be taken lightly.. Almost a meal in itself.. Very good

I never really got why black friar always gets so insanely busy on weekend nights. Sure, its got a cool beer selection and the staff is nicer than those at other more popular places, but the crowd is a bit stale, being the kind to stay here the whole night. Still, I cant criticize it since the outdoor area is pretty cool and they have the best beer selection of any of the really busy bars in uptown.
