The last two times weve been here was a bit unimpressive. A couple years ago this place was a lot better. But today I decided to give them another try. Especially since their Salisbury steak was on menu. So I live approximately 32 miles away. I checked the website and it said they open at 10:30am. So great, Ill skip breakfast and get there as theyre opening up. Well I got there a little early. Around 10:05. So I and my two kids decided wed wait till 10:30. As 10:30 rolled around we went to the door but it was locked. I looked at the huge sign outside and sure enough it said they open at 10:30 just as the website said. I Looked inside and most lights were off. Now it was 26 degrees outside so we went back to the truck to give them a call. I called and someone answered "hello." No,"Carol Anns Cafe," just "hello." I asked if they were open and the person said "11:30." No,"thanks for calling but we dont open until 11:30." So I said, "The sign outside and the website says you open at 10:30." The persons reply was another one liner with a rude tone, "really?" Then they hung up. Now this experience coupled with an event I had catered by them about five years ago prompted this negative review. At the event we had catered by them they promised the food on time. I suggested a few ideas to ensure the promptness they again promised there will be no delays. I offered to give them a map. They said they had a gps. So after showing up two hours late with cold fried chicken and fried catfish the event was less than favorable for my 140 guest. Please dont waste your time going here. When the food is good its the best but lately that hasnt been the case.

If I could give this place a zero I would. I went mid-week during lunch and the empty parking lot at lunch time should have been a clue of what was to come. Im not sure where these pictures came from but that wasnt my experience at all. The moment I walked in I noticed it was unusually dark and had a 1970s retro feel to it. Truth be told it felt like I was walking straight into a Pam Grier movie. The owner (whom I didnt know was the owner until later) was sitting at the bar smoking a cigarette and when I asked her a question about the food she basically answered me with a smug look and a shrug and pointed her head in the direction of the girl behind the counter. That young lady was very polite but almost all of the food looked HORRIBLE!!!! As a matter of fact the mashed potatoes were "floating" in water. It was gross. I got dumplings and two sides, which I could not eat because it had an "old basement" taste to it and made me sick to my stomach. Every time I ride by it, I do just that....RIDE BY IT. Its possible that I just went on the wrong day at the wrong time but they will never get my money again.

In fairness, I was never actually inside Carol Anns. December 29, 2014 I headed over to the restaurant for some good home cooking and a show. To my surprise the parking lot was empty and the lights were off. I called the number on the sign and a woman answered. I asked about the restaurant and she said "were closed." I said well, the hours say different and theres a scheduled show on the website. She repeated "were closed." Having driven three hours from GA I was put out to say the least. I was offered no apology, no suggestion to stop in tomorrow or any other day. Just "were closed." I know it wasnt personal, but personally speaking, I wont be stopping in again.

My expectations were greatly disappointing. The service was horrible! The food was aweful! The atmosphere was not welcoming and the decor was terrible. They didnt have any menus, no condiments on the tables, didnt inform us that refills arent free ($2.00), and seems to me that false advertising is going on because whats on the website isnt what we experienced!! We were charged $19 dollars for nachos, lettuce, tomato with NO meat, little to nothing cheese, no sour cream and a burnt hamburger french fries 12 oz coke in a cup and water!!! I was very DISAPPOINTED!!! We will NOT return EVER!!!

Carol Anns is a great little club. May make the best fried chicken i ever put in my mouth, and sweeties catfish was wonderful. House band is outstanding -- amazing range of talents, polished but real. Fun d.j. for the breaks. Great crowd - warm and friendly and civil. Well be back!

In town on business and thought wed try something LOCAL. Friendly, fast and unbelievably delicious! Had the lasagne today. Need help walking to the car Im so full. P.S. Say "heck yes" to the cornbread. Good job gentlemen!

Ive visited this place on Sunday for breakfast. Good variety of food at the deli, so you can quickly pick something up and eat. Ive tried meatloaf with mash potatoes. They were pretty good.

Bathrooms are crazy clean, sampler platter was $10 and it had shrimps! The dip was the best Ive had for 10 bucks anywhere. Staff is very friendly and service was fast.
