As Brentwood residents we have watched the construction of Uncle Julios and have eagerly anticipated its opening. On Sunday 11/20 we had the opportunity to have lunch. The décor, layout and overall design was impressive. It was clear that much thought and time had been given to the appearance of the restaurant. We called ahead to make reservations. The person we spoke with was very professional and friendly. Our server, while maybe a bit nervous, was very friendly and professional as well. The menu was not vastly different from many other Mexican restaurants, but provided good variety and several appealing options. We started with the Queso and were quite disappointed. It was not unlike the canned cheese you get a football game with some onions and peppers added. The taco salad, chicken quesadilla and crispy tacos were all average at best and left you looking for something more. We could have easily eaten at a number of local restaurants and spent half the money. I certainly understand that eating out is expensive and dont mind paying, but not for an inferior product. If as much attention had been spent on the food as was spent on everything else I might very well feel differently. I dont know that I will be back, but certainly wish Uncle Julios the very best.

Came here during the tail end of the lunch/more of an off period, 1PM on Sunday afternoon. We were initially sat in what was probably the tightest 4 person booth known to man. Our party is all taller-than-average so we requested a seating change which was granted. Chips/salsa are included-- the chips are a bit on the greasy and salty side for me... the salsa however is fantastic. Ordered a small queso dip- its a small, small dip. Was rather expensive in my opinion for melted cheese. Food was a bit slow at coming out, the bar was very slow at getting beverages to our party, we had to remind the server that wed ordered beverages. Food was very tasty, well seasoned, not greasy. I ordered the pork tacos-- three well-portioned tacos. Of course, we came for the chocolate pinata! It was a fun experience and was full of fresh fruit and included some fantastic caramel & raspberry dipping sauces as well as whipped cream. Overall a positive experience-- a tad pricey for what it is, even if its all made from scratch.

Came here for a date night with my wife. It had a nice energetic ambiance. We sat out on the patio and the weather was perfect, which of course added to the experience. Our server, Tatiana, was fantastic. Friendly and helpful but not overbearing. Only two negatives, which were: 1. The table side guacamole. Even though we added jalapeños, it was really bland. We wound up adding a good bit of salt to it. 2. The margaritas tasted great, but the bartender piled such a mountain of ice in mine that there wasnt much room for the margarita. For $11, I would have liked more than a couple of swallows. Still though, the main entrees were fantastic. I highly recommend the filet fajitas. Will definitely go back (might drop a hint to the bartender next time :))

Disappointing. Setting was great, loved the outdoor seating under heat lamps, and the vibe is also very nice. But the food? Mediocre. My son had the Carne Asada and that was excellent (and also expensive), came on a hot stone and was sizzling, but all our other dishes were disappointing. My shrimp tacos were bland and served lukewarm at best, and my other son and husband had enchiladas they considered ok but not great. The margaritas tasted like they were made from a mix and not with fresh lime juice. If it was just another cheap Mexican place, Id go again. But the prices were too high for that quality, not a good value. We could have eaten better food at Local Taco for half the price. As much as we liked the setting, we probably wont be back.

Chocolate pinata, each kid can get a bat or stick at table and smack it in synch. Ineffable food reminds me of Madrid, outside fire, indoor wood elements, open prep areas visible, compliant. Has a secret cellar feel and hospitality, funness that overflow. Quite a memory, get ready to split an entree with no split fee to save money for the pinata which has healthy chocolate antioxidants, multiple fiber types, gooey fondue-ugh dips...it even shines in the soft light as if painted sparkly with alluring lacquer. Well, you just have to experience it to know...kids cant quit playing in the pinata aftermath..all little experiments kid do...maybe you can articulate it better than I!

Wow I dont even know where to start.... we sat for a good 5 minutes until I finally flagged someone down to get some service. We finally get our waiter and holy moly this was the worst service Ive experienced. We were here from San Antonio trying out the Mexican food and the food was horrible. Their charro beans extremely spicy... to the point wheee you cant enjoy them. The cilantro rice had no flavor. I seriously cant express the horrible service we received. We ordered some drinks and we had to ask the waiter 3 different times on our drinks. He was ridiculously clueless. How do you hire people without people skills or much less being able to take an order.

Staff was great with good service. However, food was average lacking flavor. Their claim that everything is made from scratch, yet Im not entirely sure how accurate their claims are. One of our dishes came with a cheese dip sauce instead of queso which would have given the dish a more authentic taste and flavor. On another meal, the fajita bread didnt taste like it was made from scratch, instead it had a packaged item feel and taste. For the price you pay, you could find many other restaurants whom offer same quality with more options. We are glad we tried this place out, but probably will not return, eventhough they offer great service.

I my husband and I visited here on recommendation of a friend and werent disappointed! She told us it could be a busy place but we went for late lunch/ early dinner (maybe it was 3ish?) and were sat immediately. He got an el jefe and I got a mexican mojito (one of the BEST drinks Ive had recently) the guacamole was delicious and I loved the thin chips served with it, and we didnt opt for the table side, just a small guac. I enjoyed my fish tacos and he liked the 3 combo Texmex. I wish Id had room for the chocolate piñata, will def be back to try it! Its a more upscale texmex and they make everything fresh so its worth the $$ to me.

Average Mexican Chain Restaurant, Wont Return. Service is poor; mostly slow and forgetful. Overheard many staff openly complain about Kitchen staff. Food flavor is sub-par; seriously, not even close to Mexican and/or Tex-Mex. While plates were pretty and ingredients fresh, it was all low quality food. Example, cheap American shredded cheese on tacos? Mexican food does not use American or Cheddar cheese. Our kids, which love Mexican, all disliked their plates. Dont get me started on their take on Tex-Mex. $100 in for family of 6, no thanks, waste of money. Worth about $50...

Quesadilla was equivalent to Taco Bell. Paid $12.49 for 4 pieces of quesadilla with some cheese and small bites of chicken, some fruit, and guac and sour cream. For half the price could have gone to Taco Bell for equivalent. The fruit was supposed to have a fruit dressing with it. It didnt. When I called to share my feedback with the manager, Kyle, he offered to have me call the Corporate Office. Thanks Kyle, if thats the best you can do, Ill stick with better Tex Mex in the area. UJ represents itself as being upscale. This was not an upscale experience.
