Terrible experience on Sunday, 09/04/16 (realize it was holiday weekend, no excuse for service received). I brought my Granddaughter and 5 of her friends (out of town) for dinner. Were told the wait was approx 30 min; turned out to be an hour. Seated; requested service (knew what we wanted) from 3 different waitresses. Waited 30 min, someone brought water, but could not take order (not her station). Another 20 min went by; asked 3 more times for service. Finally, a waitress came. Order taken. Salads were served, no silverware brought or on table. Asked 3 times for silverware; an appetizer was served and we asked this gentleman for silverware (couldnt believe we didnt have any). He brought some immediately. Entrees were served approx 20 min later. One order was wrong!! Waitress sure did not act professional. "The Pit" has always been one of my favorites and I always brought out of town guests; however, no more. There is too much competition in the Pawleys Island area to put up with this, especially when entertaining guests. The girls insisted on paying. If I had treated as planned, there would have been NO TIP!! Sorry for the negative review, but feel you and others need to hear what can happen when you least expect it.

Ordered the steak with fries and veggie of the day, what I actually got was a steak over cooked and fries with A LONG BLACK BEARD/PUBE HAIR fried into them. I discovered the coarse black hair after I ate half of my steak and fries. I didnt want to make a scene, so I went inside and showed the hair, and since we already waited 30 min for food, I asked for new fries. Which upon going inside I discovered a kitchen cook with a scraggly beard and no beard net. They brought them out, but by that time I had no appetite. Visions of course beard/pube hairs kept popping up every time I saw the food. The steak meal was $15.50, upon receiving the check, nothing was taken off the meal. So I asked the waiter about it, and when he came back he advised that the manager said she would take $4 off because me receiving new fries was compensation enough. I paid it, but I believe taking only $4 off because compensation was new pube fries was not good enough for me. I will no longer frequent this establishment. I was even willing to overlook the mold growing on the outside chairs.

3 tables got there after us and they all got their food, ate and left before we received our food. We ordered an appetizer and received it after two of us were already done with our entrees(our server did end up comping the appetizer ). Two of us work in the food business so we understand how it is but this was terrible. I think there were like 2 servers/bartenders so Im sure that had something to do with it but i would recommend hiring some people. Maybe they saw that we were a younger bunch and wrongfully assumed we dont tip well so didnt give us good service, because the older groups seemed to be served quite well from what i noticed but who knows. As for the food, two of us enjoyed our entrees. I feel like any other person wouldve given 1 star but i didnt because im going to assume we came at a bad time?

Quaint place off the beaten path. It is not the size of a Trump resort so seating is limited. Waited about 20 mins to get table, which is what they told us when we walked in...well worth it. Service once we sat felt like we were the only ones in the jawn. Packed house but not suffocating. Food was de-lish! Tasty flavors. Would recommend if you love a good hole-in-the-wall. I will be back! PS- didnt notice cigarette smoke as a previous review states. Im very sensitive to that and would have walked out if I had noticed.

Went their on a recommendation from a friend - it was our wedding anniversary for lunch. It was horrible. The outside of restaurant (where we ate) was filty. leaves all over the ground, the chairs had mold on them and than the food was overcooked. Also, my wife ordered a diet coke and the expiration date on the can was 5 months past due. A cat was walking around the tables and at one table the patrons brought their two dogs and the dogs scared the cat. Will never go back !!

The dive bar of all dive bars- they call this place the P.I.T. (Pawleys Island Tavern). Interior walls are completely covered with dollar bills. Outside has a separate bar and live music stage. Drinks are not fancy, but you cant go wrong with a cold can of beer here. (lots of local beers on tap and in cans). Pizza is served late but a bit on the greasy side. Bring a dollar bill to hang on the wall, a PIT tradition!

We got take-out from Pawleys Island Tavern. The food was very good and the restaurant definitely looked like a place with good atmosphere. It came highly recommended by friends. If you have never been there before it can be a little hard to find because it is actualy behind some other stores and is only marked by a mailbox that says "PIT" on the road.

If u have more than 4 people in a party I do not recommend this place it is a bar . We had 16 family members they put us outside with no air waited over a hour in the 101 heat . When ordering ask waitress what was the sides on menu she told me to read the menu. Bar maids should not work lunch or dinner if the bar/diner is for family food. Wont be back.

The food is okay, but not worth ingesting the cigarette smoke from the tables in the "smoking section!" You know it is going to be a bad night when you have to walk through the smoking section to the 4 tables in the "non-smoking" section. I am sure the crabcakes would have tasted better if I could have smelled them over the stinch of the ashtray-bar.

worst restaurant experience I ever had. I dont think the waitress or the manager could figure out a correct bill. Food came to the table cold and I think the waitress couldnt find my beer because I had to ask another waitress to get me one. Ill never be back and I would suggest you find some place else too.

Fantastic atmosphere. The food and service are decent but I dont like to be coddled much when grabbing beers and a casual dinner. The music was a lot of fun & the patio is wonderful. Really a great place to go if you want to avoid crowds of tourists. Ill be back anytime Im in the area.

Easy going family of four on a week long beach trip exploring the local scene. Fun atmosphere, service was quality, but you should have tempered expectations regarding the food. Not bad food, just wont blow your socks off. Take it for what its worth...

Nice place full of locals. A group of friends and I came down from Atlanta for the weekend and had dinner here one night. The food was good and everyone was friendly though it seemed we may have been the only ones who werent regulars.
