BE WARNED...so, we had been to Benjamins on our last trip to Myrtle, and figured all these large buffets were similar...Negative. Now, Ive been to a bad buffet, but never so bad as to write a review until King Crab. Seriously, never. Although the rest of the bar APPEARED edible enough, we were there for the crab. Seemed like the right place, all with the name KING CRAB and the DANCING CRAB on the front, right? Wrong! Imagine our surprise when the (very nice) waitress brings out plates of grayish, rubbery crablegs to get started. Later explained that they had been steamed THAT MORNING (and resteamed) and that that was why they were gross. She did bring us fresh ones which were slightly better, but not as good as you would typically find on a chinese buffet. On to the buffet: if you do not like fried food, thats all folks. I cant imagine anything else on that bar that would be acceptable. Maybe the penne pasta in ranch dressing? You might find a decent bite off one of the steaks they have sitting in a puddle of oil on a buffet pan. Once you tack on crablegs, youve spent $26.99 (WITH THE COUPON), which is only a few dollars less than Benjamins, which is unforgettably delicious. We all left pretty hungry, and laughing. It was like "ok, you got us.." On the positive, the staff was nice and there was no wait (surprise, surprise) on a Saturday evening. But, ultimately, it felt like a tourist trap cashing in on our original misconception. As well as a blatant disrespect for those delicious spiders of the sea. If you dont know how to prepare food, dont open a restaurant, period. I am fairly certain the positive reviews about the "great family value" you will find here are sad attempts to redeem a venture that should be closed down or bought out.

There are a lot of seafood options and even buffets in Myrtle Beach, but this is by far my favorite. My family lives in North Carolina, so we try to make the trip to Myrtle Beach where my husbands family lives 2-3 times per year. Every time we go, my in-laws are always thrilled to take us here. My husbands family has been going here for years and thats how we came to love it so much. They really never disappoint. When I go to a buffet, I love to know Ill have lots of great options. Im a seafood lover, but my son isnt, and he loves this place. There are plenty of meat and chicken options, and a wide variety of delicious sides. I honestly could grab two full plates at once to start and still be hungry for more. Some buffets serve lesser quality food, but that standard of buffet eating is shattered here. The food quality is great; everything is fresh and perfectly prepared. They keep everything moving, and Ive never eaten something that feels as though it sat too long. The unlimited crab legs are one of the huge draws of this place. If you love crab, this isnt to be missed. Its a great value considering you can pile your plate high with crab and other quality seafood, meat, sides, and desserts. Everyone always eats their fill here. Each course is delectable. From the salad bar, pasta, vegetables, and other sides through dessert. This is a great family restaurant. They have warm, homey, southern décor here and it definitely is a pleasant place to go to enjoy a laid back meal.

The bill was 57.00 for two adult buffets with two waters, which isnt too bad compared to other seafood buffets. The food was TERRIBLE, very very dry, and out of 3 buffet tables only one row is seafood. We went for the crab legs and they tasted like imitation crab because of how dry they were. I complained to the waitress who was very nice, she brought out fresh legs From the kitchen which were 100% better. The peel and eat shrimp were dry also and did not look very fresh. The other food did not even look tasty. I thought dessert would be better, they have dry pound cake, brownies, and the ice cream was napolitan and butter pecan that had frost bite on it and was ate all the way to the bottom of the container. They had all kinds of toppings which would have been good with fresh ice cream. I requested to speak to the manager, I informed her that their logo states "freshest homemade seafood garunteed" and i was not satisfied, and it was very dry.... Etc". The manager was foreign and her response was "weve been busy today, no body else was dissatisfied. There are fresh desserts I can show you". I will never waste my time or money here again. Not to mention it gave my fiancé bad stomach pains and loose stool before we even left the restaurant. This doesnt deserve a rating of 3.5 period.

I wish I could rate this place 0 stars. $28 a head did not seem unreasonable for the location and expectation of a fresh seafood buffet. Even if my waiter only spoke a little English and rarely showed up for refills. Until I took my first bite. It was labeled as prime rib. Though it was very overcooked, tough, and stringy. More like an under cooked roast. I spit it out and moved on. Calamari was next. It was chewy as a result of being overcooked. Next up I tried the scallops which were at this point as expected tough and overcooked. Mashed potatoes were gummy. How do you even screw up Mac and cheese? I could go on forever with this list of bad food but the point is even the crab legs that most people will come here for were salty, not fresh and sweet at all. You would think being so close the the water you would have fresh seafood. This said I did enjoy the puff pastries very much. I ate 3 of them. Unfortunately they were followed by butter-pecan ice cream which had gone bad. After one awful bite I was visiting the bathroom and watching the puff pastries come back up. The waiter explained that they did not get their ice cream delivery this week and that was why they were serving old ice cream. The manager took my meal off the bill. I spent the next 24 hours sick.

Do NOT, I repeat do NOT go to King Crab in Myrtle Beach, I dont care what kind of special they are running or what coupons they are offering. Save yourself the trouble and take your business and your money else where. Went here tonight with my fiancé. We are big on crab legs and the fact they were included in the "special" buffet price of 25.00 made it sound like a steal. What we didnt expect was to end up eating crab legs that smelled so strongly of ammonia that it made our eyes water. Would have thought we were crazy until we heard the table next to us, and one behind us saying the same. When we brought it to the attention of our waitress, we were told "im sorry, I dont know what happened" even after she smelled the crab herself and agreed with us, she proceeded to lay our 61.00 check down on the table and walked away. This is outrageous after working in a resturant myself for 8 years, I would have expected to speak with manager. I will NEVER be back here, and will be sure to tell people the same. Ill save my health. Thanks.
