They are not closed - they have moved to a new location on Laurens Road. The restaurant decor is comfortable and elegant. While it does have a German flair, it is not the stereotypical "Oktoberfest Bavarian" folksy decor you see in many Americanized German restaurants. It is much more romantic and sophisticated. They pay a lot of attention to little details such as using cloth tablecloths, cloth napkins with napkin rings, granite coasters for your drink, and bringing the bill in a cute little wooden "treasure box" that includes after dinner mints. The layout has several cozy areas with smaller tables for couples and they have large tables for bigger groups, making it ideal for large parties or a romantic dinner for two. The service is friendly and the perfect level of attention - they are always there if you need them, your drink is always filled, but they are never intrusive and let you take your time to enjoy the meal without feeling rushed. The food is delicious and very authentic. Everything I have tried has been wonderful, and I think Ive had just about everything on the menu. If you are unfamiliar with German food trust your server to guide your selection and you wont go wrong. The regular menu has plenty of variety but not so much that its overwhelming. At dinner, they often have additional items on special and the chef sends out an amuse bouche to whet your appetite. These are often unusual and always delicious. If you drink, be sure to order a beer - they have a moderate but excellent selection of German offerings in bottles and on tap - and also save room for dessert. Highly recommended.

Let me start out by saying I have not been to this restaurant. I discovered their vendor tent at St. Francis Fall for Greenville while visiting the festival from Athens, GA. I started out getting a plate of roast pork in wine sauce with a side of potato salad. From that point I was hooked. I ended up trying five, thats right I said five, additional plates of various German delicacies, and everything was just delicious. I honestly cant remember exactly what everything was, but I recall having an onion tart, Spaetzle and kraut, Maultaschen, and an unbelievable apple strudel w/ vanilla sauce. In fact, after their performance, I drug my friends in the band J Roddy Walston and the Business to the Schwaben House tent, and they all loved it too. I cannot express properly how amazing every dish was, and cannot wait to get back up to Greenville so I can visit their restaurant. Go to this place!

Took my date for a German meal, it was her first. Im always a little hesitant to suggest German food because most restaurants get lost in sausage and feel more like fast food Americanized or deli style restaurants. Schwaben House was a great surprise...from the Onion Cake sample, to the delicious sampler style salad, to the main course, to the delicious apple strudel, everything was extremely flavorful and freshly prepared. The presentation is also very nice. If you havent tried German food, this is a great place to have your first experience. If youve been to Europe and miss the experience of quality and style, this is your place. We will be back.

The food is very good. Not awesome but really German and delicious. But it does not matter how good the food is when the stuff is unfriendly and RUDE!! Dont even think about going there with kids, or just family or with a group of people. If you need more than standard, eg pulling two tables for 6 people you will be treated like you are vandalizing the interior. If you want to know what specials of the day are, you have to beg them to get to know that. If you want a glas of wine you better order it on the phone in advance so you get it with your food. NEVER AGAIN

Excellent! I am in SC for BMW Genius training. After driving some high performance German cars at the Performance Driving School, I decided to eat some German food accompanied with some of my classmates. This place was AWESOME. What other restaurants do well, this place did it brilliantly! Service was outstanding, and our waitress had a sense of humor. Some of my classmates did not know what German food was like, and they had an excellent experience. If I ever come back to SC, I will definitely come back again.

This is the closest to Authentic German food that I have found since I visited Germany 6 years ago. I have traveled several places in the US southeast attempting to find a good German restaurant. It doesnt get any closer. My husband and I ate there for lunch. I had the Jäger Schnitzel and my husband had the Maultaschen salad. I tried his and it was fabulous as well as mine. Additionally, the decor in the restaurant is incredible. Connie, our waitress, was friendly and helpful.

If youre looking for authentic German fare. This is not the place for you. However, if youre looking for "upscale" Americanized reimagined takes on German food, youre in the right place. Paired with an almost French provincial-type decor, its not the kind of German cusine I was anticipating and therefore found it quite disappointing. Therefore, let this be fair warning to those expecting authentic home-style German food; try someplace else as this wont be what youre looking for.

Truly authentic and delicious German food. Good beer selection. Traditional outfits. Atmosphere at the new location is a definite improvement, though I feel its a bit too dainty - Id prefer a more rustic/traditional look. This place would be the best place in Greenville if it were in an old downtown building with a beer garden. My wife said (and her friends agreed) it is the one of nicest and neatest ladies room she has ever seen - take that for what its worth :)

Everything was fresh, authentic and delicious. My 9 year old stayed safe with the wienerschnitzel and french fries but ate every bite of the onion and potato appetizer the owner brought to our table. I loved the large salad plate with fried spaetzle - under the fresh greens were several small samplings of vegetables and potato salads and a delightful dressing. I will go back for the main entrees - The space is nothing fancy, but the food... yum!

I went to Schwaben House on 8/11/09 with my girlfriend we thought everything was perfect. I ordered their specialty steak and it was perfect and tender. The beer is also supreme. We finished off with German pancake and blue berries. Definetly one of the best meals I have had in a while. This is 100% a must for anyone in the area to try it out! Thanks Schwaben House

The food here was delicious and authentic. We had the potato soup, the goulash soup, the wiener schnitzel, and the cheesecake. All were freshly prepared and absolutely delicious. The beer and wine selections are great. The service was great. They are working on decorating, but the food was so good, it didnt matter! You have to try this restaurant!!

I spent 17 years living and working in Germany. I developed a taste for the German cuisine and have missed it. We found the Schwaben House this weekend. This restaurant is fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone. The sauerbraten is especially good. Prices are fair, and the service is swift and friendly.

It is a shame that I can only give 5 stars. This restaurant deserves 12 out of 10. Awesome, I lived in Germany for over 25 years and this is truly the best German food I have had. That would include what I used to eat over there. The atmosphere tops it all off. Excellent service. Cant wait to go back.
