Made a visit to Greenville SC for our annual Fire Baptized Holiness,YPI Church Convention. I had a taste for oyster soup. Not knowing the area I googled, the best Oyster Soup in Greenville SC.. Blockhouse Oyster Bar came up. Internet menu stated two prices, $8.95-$15.95. So, I rushed over to order a size for $8,95. Entering in no one really greeted me. A nice male waiter walking by directed me where to go to make a take out order. In that area the waitress when I placed my order acted as if she didnt know what I was saying. She finally caught. on. She then informed me there was only one price for the Oyster Stew, $10.25. I thought that to be a bit high considering one of their competitors price is $4.50, and they give oyster crackers, a spoon, and put your order in a bag, for the same size. I said maybe this soup is great. It wasnt. While waiting for my order the waitress was vacuuming the floor and greeting customers to take them to their table. I dont mind paying for food, if its good. Got to my hotel, tasted the Oyster Stew.....it was awful. It had no taste at all. It tasted like watered down milk. The Blockhouse Oyster Bar didnt even give me a spoon or oyster crackers and they didnt even put my order in a bag. The 16oz. cup which held my stew was filled a little past the half of the cup. I will not recommend Blockhouse Oyster Bar to anyone. Blockhouse needs to improve their taste of Oyster Stew and their Customer Service, Their prices are high and their Stew and Customer Service is low!

It was out 1st time dinning in, it was not a good experience at ALL!! The waitress rushed us threw EVERYTHING, took way to long to bring menus and didnt even introduce herself, just "what can I get you to drink" like we were keeping her from something more important!!!!! I ordered steamed oysters to start which had a warm shell, but the oysters were frozen, when I addressed it..she brought me back oysters that were so done they were shriveled....like I wasnt a server for 12 years and knew that wasnt an accident!!! Poor service and the food was crappy. We ordered the meat and 3 sides special which was presented to us like leftovers warmed up....old and tasteless!!! And to topped it all off, the dessert WAS NOT strawberry shortcake....just tart strawberries cut up on a slice of store bought angel food cake!!! We are Greenville natives and will NEVER eat here again along with warning family and friends about their less than desirable staff and food!! With all your new competition, Id have a staff meeting!!! PS...the bartender needs to be aware that the customers can hear her whole inappropriate conversation about how she feels about her coworkers....I can be more specific if need be!!!!

Our first time was with a biker group of more than twenty on a weekday evening, so I cant complain about the service. The food however was better than I expected. I had raw oysters and a fried shrimp entree. The oysters were big and very fresh. The best Ive had since I left Jacksonville 14 years ago! The shrimp were large and very tasty. My wife loved her crab cake appetizer and said her burger was one of the best she ever had at a restaurant. Will we go back? You betcha! Update: Our most recent visit included wrong liquor, poor (or worse) food and a group of people at the next table putting their filthy bare feet up on the chairs. When informed, the manager just shrugged. Our monthly visits have ended.

I appreciated the laid back atmosphere of this restaurant. We had 10, including kids, in our party. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed even though we tried to keep it simple. The Blockhouse is very overpriced for what you get. That said, the salads a couple got in our party got looked really good but did not satiate them. My husband and I got the oyster and shrimp po boy sandwiches, respectively and they were okay. The air conditioner vent dripped into the beer of one in our party. I guess this would be an okay place for a low key date night.

The wait staff was pleasant and responsive. Unfortunately, thats were the positives end. The dining area was filthy. We found a large dead bug on the floor. The carpets were dirty. The decor was dark and needed updating. Basic grilled chicken breast with a side of collard greens was $16.50 It was another $4 to add a salad to the meal. $20 for a basic grilled chicken meal is robbery. I will never be back, and I would discourage anyone from giving this place a try.

Been better here! Waitress is incredibly slow, forgetful and inattentive. 15 minutes for a drink order to be delivered with 6 customers in the building. Finally went to bar to get the Splenda that was requested 3 times. Brought me a wine glass twice with lipstick on it and tried to explain to me that they were clean. Ate here last night and enjoyed it immensely. This has been a bad visit and brought guest with me telling them how great it was. #fail

Townie bar. Carpet, wood panelling and dark secluded booths with a horse racing theme. Hasnt changed since the 80s and some of the locals havent left the bar since then either. Really solid food, though. Best oysters in Greenville. Excellent burger. Joes spud (loaded baked potato topped with prime rib bites) is my fave.

This place is awesome. I like the staff and customers here. I cant believe it has been 19 years. 19 years since the Hell in the Cell match between Mankind and the Undertaker. Back in 1998 when Undertaker threw Mankind off the top of the Hell in the Cell into the announcers table. I give this place 5 stars

My recent experiences have been ok. Not horrible but also not remarkable. The plus and the minis here are largely the same... this place has been around for decades... reliable for a certain level of dining but to me, the decor and interior could use a refresh.

Best Restaurant In Town. Ive ordered most everything on their menu but personally love their grilled asparagus, teriyaki wings, primer rib (sandwich or a thick cut), Blockhouse potatoes, and of course their oysters are simply the best. Lets eat!

Waitress forgot to put my order in ...had us waiting. We just left. You cant let money walk out the door. Wonder how long this comment will stay. You guys deleted my first one. Oh yeah I dont think its a good idea for waitress to drink on the job.

Ordered the shrimp cocktail and crab stuffed mushrooms...amazing. My fiancé loves oysters, so this is his top choice in Greenville to get them. Brittany was our bartender, very friendly, helpful & attentive. Love the atmosphere at this place!

5 of us went tonight and sat in a booth at the end of the bar. The bartender with the mohawk completely ignored us for 15 minutes although the bar was almost empty, preferring to talk with other employees. We left and wont be back.
