Me and this place did not see eye to eye. Older place with a quaint, quirky vibe. Make a big deal of the history and background. Installed in an older building that has the lumpiest, most uneven floor Ive ever encountered in a restaurant. You feel like a drunken sailor trying to find the restroom. (And the floor is very dark with nothing to help your sight.) When you see a waitstaff that is "eclectic," take that to understand the management feels they are "family" and their unusual personalities are "just who they are." Fine as far as that goes, but I travel for a living and Im consistently greeted with professional staff that are on their game. Please dont make me feel Im eating in your home with your uneven "personality." My waiter was "very helpful," but he didnt know the draft beer menu well at all, (but he definitely did NOT like IPAs.) Neither did he get my beverage to my table within 10 minutes, (which is a long time when youre used to maybe 5.) Salad was okay, but the ribeye was not very interesting or particularly well cooked. Fries, eh. Dessert was okay, smallish portion, expensive bill. All condiments came in little plastic cups, so "no waste for you!" The restroom. A tiny, shoehorned little room that offers precious little space. It served its function, but reminded you this place is "offbeat." Whatever liquid soap they stock has a most unusual odor that became more and more repulsive the longer I smelled it, (which was every time my hand brought food to my face.) Literally had to stop on the way home to try and wash it off. (Was unsuccessful.) Wretched odor. I left a decent tip, was cordial to the staff, but I will NEVER return. Columbia might like this place, (and good for them,) but my one visit was one too many for me.

After reading all of the other wonderful reviews its hard for me to believe we had food from the same restaurant so I just double checked my receipt to make sure. This was the worst food I have ever had in my entire life.My husband and I were visiting from out of town and this restaurant was on a list we received from the hotel of places that delivered. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, I got shrimp and grits, and we ordered the combo appetizer. Starting with the appetizer, the chicken tenders and breaded mozzarella were very greasy and the quesadilla rolls did not have much flavor. My husbands steak was very dry and overcooked, didnt really look like meat. His sides consisted of mac-n- cheese and rice with gravy, both awful. I took one bite of the mac-n-cheese and spit it right out. I cant even describe what it tasted like. As for my shrimp-n-grits, the grits were very salty and it had grease on top of it. I thought maybe thats supposed to be the butter the shrimps were sauteed with but the color did not look like butter, it was the color of old grease. I took 2 bites and threw it away. I thought since I threw away all my food maybe Ill just eat the cornbread that came with the food, NOT, they were very dry and hard. At the end of the night I just had a bag of potato chips. Honestly, the only good things were the honey mustard dipping sauce and the guy that delivered the food. This is the first restaurant review I have ever written because I have never experienced a restaurant where all the food was bad. This was my experience but you can judge for yourself. However, if you dont want food that taste and look like it was cooked yesterday, dont waste your time and money at Yesterdays.

Yesterdays has always been a great place to eat, however, over the years, I have watched the service become extremely mediocre, at best. Our latest visit was not appealing--we walked in about 15 minutes to noon on a Sunday. We were seated promptly, however, it took a while for our server to come over. After we placed our drink orders, we waited patiently for our server to come back to take our lunch order--about 12 minutes, to be exact. We noticed as we were placing our order that the customers in the booth behind us had a different menu than was given to us. When we asked our server about that menu, she annoyingly replied that it was the brunch menu but that they probaby were not serving brunch since it was so close to 12. I wish we had the opportunity to look at the brunch menu when we sat down; anyway, we ended up ordering from it. Our chicken and waffles came out promptly and were very good. After we ate, we we requested hot apple pie a la mode. We specifically requested that the pies be hot; however, they were cold. A manager just happened to walk by and we told him the problem; he apologized and took our pies back into the kitchen. Now heres another problem--they gave us the same pies we ordered before (only they were hot). I think they should have given us new pies altogether. Needless to say, we wont be back any time soon.

My fiancé and I came to Yesterdays for the first time, as new residents of the Columbia. After having a couple drinks, we ordered a meal and had a couple more drinks. As we were finishing up I asked for one more drink and we were told we couldnt be served because we "consumed a lot of alcohol." We took a cab to and from the restaurant so we could enjoy ourselves and get home safely. The "bar manager" rudely told me she was liable for my behavior; mind you at no point were we unruly, rude, or a disruption to other customers. I have never been treated so unfairly. Never have I been a problem to any establishment in all the years Ive been eating at ANY restaurant. Its astonishing to me the judgement this establishment has on people. For all the money I spent here I honestly cannot believe the poor treatment I received after being an honest, and quite frankly pleasureable patron of Yesterdays. To those that read this, be weary of how much you drink, because the bar tender might turn into your Mom and cut you off despite your best intentions to keep yourself and others safe by being responsible.

Yesterdays is a solid choice offering traditional Southern meals mirroring what I grew up eating for Sunday Dinner. The broad selection includes standards like meatloaf, chicken fried steak, fried chicken and black eye peas, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and squash; as well as a variety of hamburgers, sandwiches, chicken fingers etc. Something for everyone, including full bar featuring cheap drink specials. Check out the daily specials posted on their web site. The food and atmosphere are a definite step up from Lizards Thicket and the prices are reasonable. It is conveniently located downtown in Five Points and they cover the cost of parking in the gated lot, so you dont have to hunt for a parking place. So while I dont get overly excited about a meal at Yesterdays, it is a place we can all agree on when we dont want fast food and dont feel like splurging.

We came in to get drink after we ate. The first thing I noticed was a smell of Clorox and it was overwhelming. We went to the bar to sit there where the smell was the strongest. We told the bartender, which her name was Elly, she let us know that there was a spill and in order to to get the smell out she used bleach to cover the smell. She was very apologetic and she got a fresh mop and mopped the floor again. The smell did go away after that which I was grateful for that. I ordered a whiskey sour and Nancy ordered a Irish coffee and a banana pudding. The sour was pretty good though a little heavy on the sour mix. I liked the pudding which had fresh bananas on in. Elly made the visit by being very efficient and helpful.
