We frequent the Charleston Area regularly for vacation and were looking to visit some of our trusted favorites as well as try a few new restaurants. I saw Roadside Seafood written on up as one of the top places to eat in 2017. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience. Our server was a very sweet girl but you could tell didnt have much experience, I am fine with that, everyone has to learn. But their were probably 5-6 front of the house staff working and all running around like they didnt know what they were doing. We ordered and our food came out relatively quickly but we were the most disappointed in the food. I order the shrimp basket, a $11 shrimp basket, that only came with 6 very small shrimp and TONS of fries. The shrimp were barely warm and were so overcooked that they were chewy and almost inedible. My husband ordered a seafood basket with shrimp and flounder. The shrimp came out the same as mine and the small piece of flounder was so thin and limp that there was hardly any meat on it and obviously frozen. He ordered hush puppies with his which immediately we could tell they were not homemade. After tasting one of the hush puppies, I knew it was frozen and specifically the Savannah Classics brand that I purchase at home from Harris Teeter. There website specifically says they We start with only the freshest ingredients and We source locally. Our food was not fresh, not local, not good. To top the experience off, with the restaurant being so small, there are many tables very close to one another. An adult family of was seating next to us as we got our food. A few of the men were very obnoxious and rude. As we got up to pay and leave, one of the men said to my husband hey man, you didnt eat your hush puppies and as we were walking to the car, my husband told me that two of them men starting eating off of our plates. If this is your type of restaurant, then by all means enjoy. But I will not be going back and wasting my money on horrible, expensive food, mediocre service.

We decided to go here not just because it had great reviews but because they had exciting seafood options. My 8 year old son was excited to try shark and I was looking forward to having frog legs and gator for the first time. We arrived at 5:30, we had a party of 6 and they said the wait would be 45 minutes. As we walked outside the owner greeted us and offer us their table. They were very nice and got us drinks. We decided to eat outside, as it was gorgeous out so we didnt mind. We were served right away. Everything was the best "bam" seafood we have ever had in Charleston and probably anywhere! We tried everything from each others plates and nothing was bad. Everything cooked or fried perfectly! Crab cakes, check, great! Shark, bomb! Shrimp, big and plenty! Onion rings, crisp and tasty! Sweet potato fries, the best weve had! Gator tail, oh so good! Frog legs, taste like chicken but reminds you of fish, were fun and delicious! And that bam sauce, wow! The portions are plenty. Definitely got our moneys worth. The owners were super nice and even offered us free dessert! Even though we were stuffed, how can you ever turn down dessert?! We got the key lime cheesecake, which happened to be the last slice...I understand why. So freaking good! Great way to end the meal! Thanks to everyone at roadside for such a great dining experience! Well definitely be back and well be sure to tell everyone we know about yall!

Must be something wrong with me. Given the plethora of positive reviews on Roadside Seafood we figured we had to give it a try. The space is small and cramped, but who cares if the seafood rocks! Well, it didnt. ;o(. Look I know its fried seafood people, but the pool of grease gathering on the bottom of the plastic tray was not a good sign. Maybe it was my choices?? Ordered the fried clams, after the waitress said they werent frozen from a bag. What the heck was I thinking?? Of course they were and given their sorry state on the plate: dry fried hard nuggets of nothin, well I shouldve known better. My bad. Ill probably never order clams outside of Maine again. We also ordered the house made onion rings since every review raved about em. What the heck?! They were beyond greasy and the coating just slipped off the onion. Yuck. Finally as part of the two fer basket we had fried oysters. These babies were decent; succulent and juicy. The only problem was these were mixed with the rest of the order just described and they too got bathed in surrounding grease. We had a side of coleslaw, but basically not worth commenting on. Just meh. Look fried seafood in and of itself can be greasy, it IS fried. But Ive had fried seafood done right and this wasnt it. Not sure what all the rave reviews are about, maybe its just me, but this local place can do a lot better.

To start, the servers speak in monotone and are slow, very slow. The menus were formatted oddly. I order a Pepsi to drink. I am brought a Diet Pepsi instead, so I return it to get a Pepsi. Just that moment, the machine breaks. They give me a iced but not cold canned Pepsi which isnthe ideal but not good. My first two dinner choices are not avaliable due to them being out of shark and alligator. My first thought is why didnthe they say they were out? I first get a bowl of the she crab soup which was full of sherry and had almost nothing that resembled crab! For my main dish, I end up ordering "The Peacemaker" which is an oyster sandwich. I get it about five minutes after the rest of my partys food. The sandwich was stuffed! Dont get me wrong, I like a lot of food but if I cant even close my sandwich to put it in my mouth, then it makes no sense. The taste was sub-par at best and very greasy. Overall dont go if you want to have a good, enjoyable dinner. Good luck, youll need it!

When we arrived, there werent a lot of customers there. Were patient folks but we both felt like our server ignored our presence. I like tipping and I like tipping well. I tip well if our drinks are refilled. Other servers helped wait on our table. The food took forever. Im fine with the food coming out slow but I wish our server could have came by and explained why. We would have been understanding. We almost just left. Our food took about 45 min to come out. Other people came in after us and they got their food first. There were 4 of them and 2 of us. When we tried to ask questions, she was very standoffish. Were definitely not coming back. I gave 2 stars because the food was delicious but the service that I received really made a difference. Even if the food was crap, I would have been fine if the service was better. This was the first time I have ever not left a tip. I didnt want to tip her well because it would assume that she did well but she didnt.

Seafood was really solid for the price, but our service was a disappointment. We were seated fairly quickly even though it was busy, and got our drinks and ordered the egg roll as an appetizer and two baskets. We didnt get a drink refill until 35 minutes later, and finally got our food 50 minutes after ordering. I understand a kitchen being slammed, but there is no excuse for not refilling drinks if there are 4-5 waiters and only 15 or so tables. Im pretty sure they forgot about the appetizer, and only bought it out after we reminded them about it. And then the shrimp egg roll appeared to only have one shrimp in it. They ultimately comped us the egg roll without our asking, which was nice, but it didnt make up for the service. This was the first time in a long while that I can remember the service negatively impacting my meal this much, which is a shame because the food was, for the most part, very good.
