Just to give you my background, I love sushi and have bartended and served at a few of the best places in RI (Nicks On Broadway and Ocean House) so Im not just a foodie, Ive worked around some great chefs and really appreciate execution done well. Heres a story to breakdown Ichiban to you: I was driving down from MA to have a first date with my now girlfriend (almost 4 years later) and we met at Haruki on Wayland Sq. I thought the food was really good and have since went back multiple times. But I wasnt "allowed" to go to Ichiban until my girlfriend knew I was worthy (maybe it was date #6 or 7.) To give you an idea, you can look at sushi ingredients and the color will usually give you an indication of its freshness, flavor, and quality. Every time I go to another sushi restaurant, their fish looks dull in comparison. To top it off, Sushi Chef and owner Jim, has incredible presentation, aside from the great roll combinations they offer as specialties. Ive talked to Chef Jim about the sushi documentary, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and was happy to know Jim had learned in a similar authentic, traditional almost apprenticeship background to sushi. You have to try it out. Aesthetically the place wont knock your socks off, but its very comfortable and nice inside and the service is always really good. Best sushi that I know of and Ive been to Mirimotos in Yountville, CA.

I decided to eat here due to the reviews. Walking in I was a little discouraged due to flies around my table. The waitress answered my questions, which was helpful but wen I received my food I was disappointed. The spicy scallop maki was falling apart and I dont know if was bad or the soy sauce was because it left a funny taste in my mouth. I then received my rice dish and it was nothing I expected or close to the menus description. Basically I was under the impression it was a hot dish but instead it was a bowl filled w/ lettuce, shredded carrots, mushroom and some other veg w/ cold beef and an egg served w/ rice on the side. The waitress never came over to ask if everything was ok but what I assume to be a manager did. I told him I didnt like it and he did nothing about except offer me a California roll. W/ tip I spent $20, I am not happy, nor will I return or recommend this place!

The white tuna here is sensational! All of the fresh maki rolls are outstanding, the service is top notch, the authentic recipes and knowledge of the owners and the wait staff is fantastic, as well. The owners Jim and Carol, will frequently stop by our table and talk...see how the food is...and are very hands on with the operations of their restaurant. Everything super fresh; Ive been a regular since they opened. I continue to be a huge fan of everything Ive ever eaten there and of the friendly atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable, the portion sizes are just right, and the use of Wasabi OIL on the "screaming spicy" dishes is simply heavenly! HIGHLY recommended Korean Sushi and BBQ joint. (Next time youre there, ask Jim about the exquisite HAND CARVED work above the sushi bar!) A+++++ and DEEEEEELISH!

Dont let the location of Ichiban off Park Ave. in Cranston fool you - this is finely made, hand-crafted sushi created by a true sushi chef. After we spent a few minutes enjoying our "Mango Sushi roll" (tempura shrimp with layers of fresh green mango in a traditional roll), "Ichiban Roll" a complex roll created with several fresh fishes, and unexpected layers of fresh Japanese pear and green mango, the chef visited our table to ask how we enjoyed our meal. Not only is he a gracious host, he was willing to explain details about his preparation, and mentioned that the wasabi is made fresh every morning (fantastically spicy) and the soy sauce is also homemade - and he developed the current, (delicious) lower-sodium recipe when he saw how much his guests were using! DO NOT MISS ICHIBAN!!!!

We visited Ichiban for lunch on a weekday. We ordered appetizers and (I quote the menu) "C6. Bulgogi, Traditional thin sliced Korean style BBQ beef on a sizzling platter and C7. Kopdol Bibimbab, on display in a spectacular sizzling stone bowl." Although we were not hungry, we could not stop until the dishes were empty, although the portions were sizable. No doggy bag was needed. The food was good. Dont miss the wonderful rice crust at the very bottom of Bibimbab, it can be easily scratched out. There was also a fiery red hot sauce to it which is still glimmering in my memory after a few days. It will revitalize and make you forget all your misfortunes. The service was exceptionally friendly and even cordial. What a nice place!

The food was alright. The fish was fresh but they put so much ginger in the tempura that the fried shrimp in my roll tasted like gingerbread, which was weird but not terrible? I like the addition of asian pear in a lot of the rolls, I havent seen that before and it was delicious. They gave us some kind of food as we thought about our order, I think part of it was kimchi? No one ever said what they were and we never had plates or utensils to eat it with so we didnt really touch it and it stayed on the table throughout the meal. The wait staff is very friendly, and I enjoyed the mochi a lot!

We just got back from Ichiban and the food was outstanding. The service was wonderful and very friendly; much more friendly than I have seen going out lately. The sashimi appetizer was delicious, the salmon melted in our mouths. Both my wife and I finished our main courses; well, I graciously helped her finish her portion. I want to try every meal on the menu, it is this good!

Amazing Japenese fare. They use the freshest ingredients and demonstrate a clear dedication to quality. The plates not only satisfy the taste buds but they are beautifully presented. Ichibon has, by far and away THE BEST sushi Ive ever tasted. I have traveled coast to coast and lived in ten states and have yet to find a sushi place that can compete.

Im a total seafood snob, and most sushi places actually nauseate me. That having been said, I love the sushi here. Ive yet to try a roll I didnt like. Its so fresh it has no fishy funk flavors. Stick to the raw ones, you wont regret it. I highly recommend the oceans 11 and the spicy yellowtail. We get those every time we go here.

this is the worst korean food i have ever had! the kimchi even stinks and the black bean is extremely unfresh and dry! It is understandable that RI has no authentic korean food, but why this chinese operated korean-japanese restaurant could have recieve this high score! Please try korean opreated korean places.
